CAPITALS hold off SHARKS rally for 4-2 Victory...

                  RECAP

San Jose, CA- After a long 4 Game Road Trip in Canada where San Jose went (2-1-1) the Sharks(40-13-5) returned to California to meet the Stanley Cup Champions, Washington Capitals(33-22-3).

And it was a rough one as San Jose came out sloppy.

"We don't know what happened. Might of been because we were on the road so long we kind of just came out and fell flat on our face. We can't do that against the Champions like Washington." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

The Sharks(40-13-5) were flat in the First Period as Washington(33-22-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead jumping all over Rookie Goalie Joey Backstrom(12-2).

                  Backstrom stopped 24 shots.

"They're the defending Cup Champions. They're a tough Team to beat." Backstrom said.

Washington beat San Jose 4-3 in Overtime on January 22 in our Nation's Capital.

"San Jose is a tough Team with lots of speed and leadership. For us to come in here in their building and get a win is a huge accomplishment." Capitals Head Coach Todd Reirden said.

Capitals Goalie Braden Holtby stopped 25 shots as the Capitals held off a desperate Sharks attack in the 3rd Period.

"You're not gonna beat him. He's that good. We threw 27 shots and he stopped us." Sharks Captain Joe Pavelski stated.

Pavelski's 30th Goal of the year put San Jose within one. Rookie Tyler Adams scored for the score at 3-2 in favor of the Capitals.

Alex Ovechkin's Empty Netter sealed the deal for Washington(33-22-3).

With the win tonight, the Capitals have now taken over first place in the Metropolitan Division with 69 Points.

The New York Rangers fall to 2nd Place 2 points back.

On Saturday Night the Sharks(40-13-5) will host the Vancouver Canucks(29-28-2) who they just beat 8-2 on Monday in Vancouver.

San Jose, CA- b In the first 51 Seconds, Sharks Defenseman Erik Karlsson scored a Goal.

Evander Kane would follow moments later and the San Jose Sharks(40-14-5) took a 2-0 lead over the Vancouver Canucks(30-28-5).

But then the Sharks fell apart. Sloppy play and unnecessary penalties.

"We just fell on our faces. Terrible performance by us tonight." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer said.

The Canucks jumped all over Rookie Goalie Joey Backstrom with 39 shots in which he turned away 36.

                          RECAP

San Jose, CA- After blowing a 2 Goal lead to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday Night, the San Jose Sharks(41-14-5) bounced back with a statement 7-2 Victory over the best Team in the Eastern Conference, Boston Bruins(36-20-4).

Backup Goalie Joey Backstrom turned away 44 Shots as he became a brick wall against the Bruins heavy attack.

Boston Goalie Tukka Rask allowed all 7 Goals but turned away 28 shots.

Bruins Brad Marchand got the B's on the board first before the Sharks rattled off 3 unanswered Goals.

"Boston is a great Team. Best Team in the East right now and we knew we had to play them hard." Sharks Head Coach Pete DeBoer stated.

Sharks Forward Timo Meier led the way with a Hat Trick.

"Those don't happen very often but it's special when it does. We needed this win to give us some confidence." Meier said.

"San Jose will play you hard. If you can't keep up with them on the scoreboard you're gonna fall behind. That's what happened to us here tonight." Bruins Head Coach Bruce Cassidy stated.

Boston(36-20-4) still leads the Eastern Conference heading into a Matchup with struggling Vegas Golden Knights.

SHARKS snap PENGUINS 4 game Winning Streak with 7-1 Victory...

                            RECAP

Pittsburgh, PA- The San Jose Sharks(42-14-5) got their 4 Game Road Trip on the East Coast off to a bang with a 7-1 thrashing over the Team that stole the Stanley Cup Championship away from them back in 2016, the Pittsburgh Penguins(34-23-4).

Alternate Captain Logan Couture needed just 10 seconds on the Power Play to get the Sharks on the board 1-0 early in the 1st Period.

From that point on, the Penguins were under a heavy Sharks attack as the Fins proceeded to put up 4 straight Goals as the crowd inside the PPG Paints Arena were left in disbelief.

"We played possibly our best Game of the year tonight I thought. Great execution, no sloppiness, and our shots were surgical. Overall I'm pleased with our performance." Sharks Head Coach Peter DeBoer stated.

San Jose(42-14-5) was surgical with their attack on Penguins Netminder Matt Murray. Murray allowed 6 Goals on 27 shots as Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture, Marc Vlasic, Timo Meier, and Rookie JJ Hart all scored.

With 5 minutes left in the Game, Pittsburgh(34-23-4) pulled Murray for DeSmith who allowed 1 Goal off 5 shots.

Sharks Goalie Martin Jones had a shutout going until midway through the 3rd Period when Dominik Simon snuck a shot past him.

                            Jones finished with 20 saves.

"We didn't play our Game. We gave up too many goals and didn't play good at all. It's gonna be one of those Games you take a long hard look at and figure out what went wrong." Penguins Head Coach Mike Sullivan stated.

The Pens won 4 straight coming into tonight's game with San Jose as Franchise Icon Sidney Crosby is out with injury having suffered a bad Concussion and is not set to return until April 25.

Pittsburgh should make the Playoffs regardless sitting in 2nd Place in the Metropolitan Division just 3 points behind defending Cup Champions, Washington Capitals.

The Sharks continue their 4 Game Road Trip as they head to Columbus on Saturday Night February 23 to play the Blue Jackets(33-23-4).
