My point still stands. I once put my proposal for a sixteen team league, and there were complaints from about every single SEC fan about certain rivalries being split up. If the SEC is going to move forward with this, they have to do some things that are going to be controversial. They can't have their pie and eat it too.

Tradition is a huge part of college football. While I like progress and some change, some things should not go away. Just my opinion, but rivalries that are over 110 years old should stay intact somehow and Slive needs to make sure that while you are progressing towards the future, you dont kill the history and tradition that has brought you here. my .02
Tradition is this false idol in college sports; the true pinnacle is based on how much money you can make. If tradition was truly the golden standard, the SEC would have ten teams, the SWC would have never broken apart, etc... It's about moving around to milk the most money. The SEC can get that sweet television money by spiting up the divisions, adding two teams, and rotating the schedule (which is one of the things that makes the NFL less predictable). You make new rivals with closer teams, and you have inter-divisional rivalries with successful teams.
When Pandora's box was opened with the help of the networks and people demanding playoffs and pay for players, tradition took the first dagger through the heart. Tradition is dying, and there isn't anything that can put the beast back in the box. The sooner fans realize this, the better it will be.Rangers - Cowboys - Aggies - Stars - Mavericks

Boy you're right. Tradition means so much in fact, that the Aggies killed off their large rivalry with Texas after nearly a century of battling it out. Tradition means so much that Syracuse and Georgetown, one of the better basketball rivalries in the sport, shut it down for the Orange football program. Tradition means so much, that we're talking about a playoff in the sport with no maximum number in sight.

I'm sure they'll be much happier being habitual underachievers in a tougher conference with their fellow underachievers from Missouri.Red Wolves | Broncos | Cubs | Grizzlies | Predators | Liverpool FC | Sporting KCComment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
Tammy (and Nebraska, for that matter) voted for unequal sharing every time it came up (except 1 or 2 arbitrary votes on the way out of the conference). Neither team could put a good enough product on the field to take advantage... so that is somehow Texas' fault. Maybe if Tamu was more than a .500 team all-time in big12 play, and maybe if Nebraska didnt run their program into the ground... they both could have made more money and wouldnt have had to lift their skirt to another conference to make themselves feel better. It is hard to fault nebraska though, as they seem to be a very good fit in the Big10.
Oh by the way the Big12 now has equal sharing (chosen by vote. just like the previous unequal revenue sharing was always decided by vote).
Its just a classic case of Aggy thinking they are something that they arent. They suffer from delusions of grandeur. They wanted to be one of the elites in the conference but just couldnt get it together. When things didnt go their way, they cried and pointed at big bad Texas. Have fun in the sec with the agroids. You'll see what I mean in a few seasons.Last edited by Maxattax3; 02-13-2012, 05:40 PM.Texas. Football. All. Day.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
The structure of the new conference will likely include:
Membership of 18 to 24 universities
National scope from the Atlantic Seaboard to Hawaii
Championship football game format that includes semifinal match-ups
Championship basketball tournament
Regular season scheduling in divisions
NCAA FBS affiliation
Mechanisms to emphasize and improve academic standards and fiscal responsibility
The presidents and chancellors will have follow-up meetings over the next six months to fully develop the operational issues essential to the formation of the association.
Hope San Jose State gets a seat at the table.
Good times aplenty for the also rans. 4 team conference playoff. Yum.
Hope this option is built into NCAA 13.Fulham FC...Showin' em love.
