Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
They did kind of start things, didn't they? Personally, I'd put more blame on the BCS and also the Big 10 conference. I honestly hate all of this conference shuffling. Absolutely hate it. It's about $$$. That's it. Nothing more. I guess that's kind of always been a big reason, or the reason, why schools change conferences but it's gotten beyond ridiculous.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
If you want to blame one institution for this, it has to be the University of Texas. Their decision to (in effect) kill the SWC by defecting to the Big 8 in the mid 90's was the move that let the genie out of the bottle. It set in motion a chain of events that has permanently altered the cfb landscape.Comment

I thought it was our fault for "flirting" with the B10 and forcing those schools to leave for stability!
Or maybe it's everyone's fault for, ultimately, looking out for #1.Comment

C-USA breakdown from another forum:
*C-USA just added teams that average 35k (UTSA) and 20k (ODU) in large untapped markets with growing fan bases. Good solid pickups.
*FIU is a large quality institution in a big market but they have to contend with the "U" 15 miles away and their sister newbie FAU 59 miles away. Though they haven't drawn great yet, I could see the wisdom in giving them a nod.
*UNCC- Hell, they don't even have a team yet and are in. As I stated in an earlier thread, they have 7 BCS teams located within a 3 hour drive of Charlotte. Good luck getting those eyeballs to watch you.
* Louisiana Tech has 30 years of DI-A history and has never drawn more than 21.5 a season and they play in a small market.
*UNT has been playing DI-A ball for over 40 yrs and has never averaged over 20k. And they are 7th banana in their own "all important media market". So what, NOW they are going to magically transform and draw well? People are going to suddenly tune in North Texas football?Last edited by capn_razzamataz; 05-02-2012, 04:49 AM.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
The fans certainly don't. We see how much money the school pours into athletics (apparently there are only four non-BCS [not just FBS] schools that spend more on athletics than JMU) and facilities (2/3 of a new football stadium was completed last year for $62 mil and a new basketball arena costing $88 mil was just approved); many fans think this is kind of reckless spending for a school that is destined to stay FCS. There are already fans threatening to hold back donations to the school if JMU ends up stuck in a hollowed out CAA.Last edited by capn_razzamataz; 05-02-2012, 08:16 AM.Comment

Re: Conference Re-Alignment Thread Part Who Knows
A few years ago our AD and President were asked about a possible move to FBS and they said something along the lines of "Not in our lifetimes," which REALLY pissed a lot of people off. Last year though our AD said that it's possible we could move to FBS within 18-24 months.Comment
