Re: Mike Vick sentenced to two years in prison

For the first year, Vick can get out 52 days early. For the second year, he can get out 47 days early. Tack on the month he has already served, and he's looking at about 18-19 months of total jail time.

Chris Mortensen is saying he doesn't believe there will be an additional supsension from Roger Goodell and the NFL when he is released from prison. This is just what he has heard from his sources around the NFL.

Holy ****, props to that judge though.

Well then there you have it. Mort has fantastic sources. I wouldn't be surprised either way. Ultimately though, it's up to Goodell, and I wonder if he even knows what he'll do when that time comes.

The good thing for Vick is that he doesn't have to worry about his QB skills atrophying while he's in prison since he had none to begin with.

As long as he can work the weights and do some running in the yard, he can come back as the exact same player when he gets out.

Yeah, he's got a good year and a half to sit back and decide what to do. His mind may change by then..

Okay, he didn't do the actual killing but he was on the scene of the altercation as his buddies stabbed two guys and then he tried to hush it up. His limo driver testified and said that he struck at least one of the victims. He was originally indicted for murder but got the charges changed to obstruction of justice, iirc. So he was involved in some way and got off with nothing but a fine. Either way though, there is a lot more hubbub about the Vick case because animal activists push so hard for punishment.

I hope the judge did use this as an example. Maybe if those who commit crimes would be punished instead of receiving a slap on the wrist the jails in this country wouldn't be overcrowded.

I think I remember reading the prison he will be at doesn't allow weights. Anybody else know anything about it?

I don't think the sentence was long enough either. The judge had the chance to send a message and chose not to. I would have liked to have seen a minimum of 3 years in prison for what he did. I hope that he never plays another down in the NFL again and I really hope that someone takes care of him in prison and he never sees the light of day again.

So you think that sentence sent no message, NO MESSAGE AT ALL?

I could understand maybe not enough of a message, but NO MESSAGE AT ALL?

I couldn't disagree more. He shouldn't have got 3 months. IT WAS SOME DOGS. He didn't kill anyone. I know one thing I am pissed at. The money that went into all this, and we KNOW it was substantial, could have went into seeing that some kids got current books in these SAME neighborhoods were Vick grew up so that maybe the next kid doesn't have to follow that path. That same money could have went to giving some underprivileged people a chance to learn some job skills so they don't feel they have to turn to dogfighting as a way to earn some cash. That same time and money could have went to sex education to help prevent disease so that Atlanta , which is RAPIDLY GROWING according to latest stats in new HIV cases, can stem the tide of sexually transmitted diseases. That same time and money, well I think you guys get the picture.

If some 'regular' dude did something like this, he would probably be in for like 5 years. These "athletes" should not be held to a different standard. I do agree that the sentence was on the low side.

He bred dogs for the purpose of fighting them to the death and killed the ones that didn't live up to what he wanted, but at least he didn't kill anyone. I hope he meets someone in prison with the same disregard for human life that he has for animal life and that person takes care of him.
