The system is a money making racket

i was originally going to be a lawyer, but i changed that up when i found something else. I need to go to law school. There is a lot of money for lawyers nowadays because of the extreme nature of the justice system

Ok this is too egregious for me to pass up but um, how is the legal system making money off of Vick going to jail for 2 years? Please explain that.

I don't know what's what and all the intracies but I'll tell you this. A few years ago I learned that American Express was in the prison building business and once I heard that I KNEW money was in it.

Ah well that's slightly different then this no? Yes, building prisons is a pretty big business especially if you're in the southern states which is pretty sad commentary on life in some ways.

i dont feel like getting into detail and writing a thesis about it

but for one, the people that busted him add to their resumes, and probably climb the ladder faster because they busted Michael Vick. That is how they are making money off of VIck.

as far as the system as a whole, there are the fines and fees that they get from each case. The government or the state get money from each case and it adds up. That is why they have quotas. It's ok to go over the quota, but they better not be below the quota on any given year. They will throw a case at anything that will stick. They dont care if its the right thing or if they are truly guilty, all they care about is if they can make some money off of it by having a charge that sticks.

then on a different scale there is the money that the government gets from taxpayers for each prisoner. It's like cattle ranching. Personally, i wish they would throw people in jail that deserve it. Michael Vick doesnt deserve it, at least not this harsh of a sentence imo.

there are the contractors that build prisons, etc. There are more prisons in this country than any other country in the world, by far...and they build new ones every year like casinos in Vegas

the system is not about right or wrong much anymore, it's mainly about making money. Society was better off 15 years ago when it wasnt such a racket and the one of the main objectives was keeping society safe.

I see where you're coming from however I differ in that I think Vick got the right amount of time. Like it or not, celebrity figures these days are getting harsher penalties as an example to ordinary folks. It may or may not be a deterrent but it's a fact of life.

As for the other stuff you said, I agree with you on principal there.

I disagree with the law, but it is what it is... so this is just the justice system doing what it is supposed to.

As for animals killing other animals for entertainment, happens all the time. Saw my girlfriend's cat "play" with a mouse for about an hour the other night. Once the mouse died, it found something else to entertain it. Didn't eat it, just "played" with it til it quit moving.

What's the point of laws and jail time if the judge does not enforce it? The sentencing isn't your problem, your problem is with the written law itself imo.
