This whole situation is confusing. Now there's appeals of this, right?

I don't care about anybody looking stupid. I wish it would stop right now so I'd know we'd have a full football season next year.

                Exactly.

I wish this would be settled tomorrow so I could fully enjoy draft weekend. Having this whole lockout clouding it has not been enjoyable.

                  Re: Official CBA Thread

The ruling says nothing about a stay of the ruling. Presumably, it applies immediately — unless the NFL can get Judge Nelson to modify the ruling, or unless the league can get the U.S. Court of Appeals to issue a stay pending the inevitable appeal.
We've obtained the 89-page ruling from Judge Nelson lifting the NFL's lockout of the players following decertification of the union.

This makes me wonder if something awesome could happen.

I wonder if, presuming that the ruling lifts the lockout right now, teams will scramble like mad to gobble up free agents really quickly between the time when the lockout was lifted (now) and the time that the NFL gets their stay granted so they can do the whole appeal thing.

Hmm, so teams can now pay players whatever they want? No minimum salary, no salary cap? Not sure I understand the implications of this decision. Are they just going to operate under the conditions of the old CBA until a new one is agreed upon?

So yeah. What does this mean? After the draft, can people sign UDFAs? Can regular free agents get signed now?

In theory, the owners will appeal and try to get a stay during the appeal. Players and agents will try to report to teams to get their workout bonuses. It's a lot of nothing at this point. If the owners cant get a stay, then things might happen faster. If they do, we are right back where we started.

It's amazing how the NFL can spend multi-millions of dollars for good publicity to appear to care about the "common man" only to have this drag out and come off as a bunch of greedy owners.

No, the NFL will impose probably the uncapped year rules for free agency, the players will then move forward with the Brady case which asserts that it is a violation of antitrust law to have rules in place for 32 businesses to follow for a non-union workforce.

League is appealing, and trying to get a stay while they appeal.

They also still have a case open with the National Labor and Relations Board challenging the decertification. If they win that it's game over the the players and they get locked back out and the class action lawsuit for antitrust violations probably goes away.

Sounds like the NFL chose wisely when they appealed to the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.
