Yea, but other potential good news has come out today, including the cancellation of the next mediation as the sides talk towards a settlement (hope I worded that right). Check Albert Breer's twitter; I'm certain he'll have an article up later in the day.

If so thank God. Like I said they better not jeopardize the golden goose fighting over a few extra eggs that would be just stupid.

I saw on the ticker at the bottom of ESPN that there could be a deal in 2 to 3 weeks.

I haven't seen anything like that that wasn't speculation, but that's probably true. They'd have to agree in principle to high level and some specific points, and then the lawyers would have to work it from there into a settlement/CBA. There won't suddenly be 'we have a CBA' and it's over.

I heard that a player who is familiar with the negotiations made that comment. It came from a CBSsports.com reporter. I heard this late last night CBS's overnight broadcast.

I hope it is true. I hope we get a new CBA soon.

I'm hoping the owners are getting jittery now. Cause they will start to lose money, all their little tricks to maintain cash flow has fell through with the exception of season ticketholders money. The have to understand that every team is losing out on this, they are hurting the players and the product they are putting on the field. The first 8 weeks will be ugly. I'd be surprised if anyone went 4-0 or 8-0. Relationships will be rebuilt during the season the instead during OTA and training camp.

NFL making plans for an 8 game season

Despite recent developments in the labor battle that are seen as positive by some, the NFL is planning for a regular season as short as eight games, the Sports Business Journal reported Monday.

The reported plan essentially means that in order to have a 2011 season a new collective bargaining agreement would need to be reached no later than early November.

Under the reported plan, the eight-game season would start in late November and culminate with the Super Bowl in Indianapolis Feb. 12. The NFL has previously cleared the way for the Super Bowl to be played as late as Feb. 12.

The league is looking to give teams five weeks before the season to sign free agents, hold training camps, and possibly play preseason games.

According to NBC Sports' ProFootballTalk, the NFL has said it needs at minimum three weeks between a deal and the start of the season, making early November the latest possible date for a labor agreement.

Lawyers for the NFL owners and players appeared before a federal appeals court Friday to argue the league's appeal of a ruling that invalidated the lockout.

The court urged the sides to find a solution to the labor dispute, with one judge saying neither side will like the eventual ruling. The court is expected to take weeks to decide the appeal.

The hearing followed three days of talks in Chicago that the two sides set up on their own without lawyers present.
The key thing in all that is that the absolute latest possible date for an agreement that results in a season of some kind is early November.

If that happens I will watch 0 football, this season. Seriously. Use my Sundays to better myself or something like that.

Not sure I understand the fuss around the 8 game season stuff, it's been known they've been planning for a number of contingincies. That's why there are things like every home team week two playing in away games week 4 baked into the schedule, implying those 2 weeks could be cancelled to cleanly allow for a 14 game schedule.

They've got to prepare for everything while waiting for all this to play out. Hopefully we'll see a settlement/agreement before the 8th circuit comes back.

No fuss. But I wouldn't support the sport for an 8 game season. Seems silly to me if the owners and players can't get a deal done.

I was talking to a buddy of mine today, who is as die hard an NFL fan as they come...

He was livid, and adamant that a shortened season would be of NO interest to him...

                              I agree...

If the Billionaires and Multi Millionaires don't care about the quality of the product, why should we as consumers?

Is there any other industry or entertainment vehicle that could get away with this?

                              Doubtful...

                              Shameful, too...IMHO...

An 8 game season? If that happens, It will be very hard for me, as a fan, to get involved and invest my time into it.
