Besides, I work on Thursday nights and would rather not have to take off for a Patriots game.
It's Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock. I think they're going to be great.

I think what he's getting at is that it will be possible to watch another game each week. I assume anyways. We'll get the regular slate of games Sunday afternoon, the SNF and MNF games, and a Thursday game. More football to watch, which is always a plus to me.

What Chaos said. It's not more football, it's more football that I can watch.

I'm all for a 16 games every Thursday. I also wouldn't mind double headers on Monday Night Football like they have done the last few years to open the season. Sunday Night Football is the main deal now, not MNF, so why not?

Rumors on Thursday Night deal -

*The Thursday Night package would be sold on the open market.

*NFLN would keep late-season portion of Thursday package, with only the first eight Thursdays being sold

*Split the package on a bi-weekly basis, with NFLN getting a game every other Thursday

I for one wish that the package is sold to the open market, just because we don't have the option to get the NFLN with our cable provider. If Time Warner gets NFLN, I wouldn't care which way the Thursday night package was done. I do like the bi-weekly idea. Maybe give NFLN 8 games and split the other 8 between CBS and FOX, since they don't have primetime games like NBC and ESPN.

Ok thanks for the clarification up above.

If this is sold to the open market I can see a real battle between Versus and Turner Sports for the rights. Versus has been really trying to expand its reach and getting some NFL football will force cable companies to make the channel more accessible. Turner Sports used to have a split schedule with the Sunday Night games. They were usually given dog matchups but every once in a while there was a real good game. Their announcers back then were pretty low-key but I think they'd bring in some higher energy folks this time around.

I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to emulate their basketball coverage and get some outspoken former players for their pregame show if they get the rights.

So I'm guessing it's safe to assume that the Thursday night games would only be extended to the full season starting in 2012 right?

No way they can rework the schedules, sell the rights, etc. in whatever short amount of time between the signing of a new CBA and the start of the season?

This would make sense yes, probably 2012.

                        From ProFootballtalk.com

SECOND UPDATE: ESPN has revised Mort’s report to explain that the Thursday night package would be launched in 2014, the first year of the next TV deals. This makes sense, because televising Thursday night games before the annual launch of the NFLN package would require games to be taken away from CBS and/or FOX.

Turner Sports would be very interesting. I was only thinking about the current stations that had rights to games, other stations coming aboard didn't even cross my mind.

I'd like to see Turner grab the Thursday package.

Or some darkhorse like The CW, who could quintuple their Thursday night ratings with it if they were willing to get away from the teen oriented ****. And since, I believe, they're already partially owned by CBS there'd be a bunch of talent there that they could use.

As long as no Comcast owned channel gets it, I'm fine.

                                Why's that?

Comcast owns NBC, and they have Sunday Night Football. And it's the best NFL broadcast on television, imo.
