Wouldn't the opposing team just get the ball on the 1?

His team, attempting to take advantage of this while backed up on their own 1-yard line, trot he and the field goal team out to try the 116 yard field goal (99 yards + 10 for defense's end zone + 7 for distance from snap to holder).

The ridiculous kicker puts his foot through the ball, it has the distance, but goes wide left.

What's the ruling on the field? Touchdown for the defense? Safety for the defense? Opposing team gets the ball on the one-yard line? The game is cancelled for coaching stupidity?

Thanks in advance for entertaining my curiosity.
Wouldn't it be the same as a regular missed FG and the opposing team takes over at the spot of the kick, in this case the 1? Why would it be different?

EDIT: I just realized the spot of the kick would be in the endzone. Now I understand the question lol. I would guess a safety or they would takeover at the 1.

Crazy stat: Since Kraft bought the Pats in 1994, Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe are the only QBs to start in Week 1. Tied w/ GB for fewest.

I'd think safety also, treating the failed try as a play resulting in the ball downed in the end zone. Similar to a botched FG snap on 4th all they way to the end zone and covered by the kicking team.

I think that'd preempt the turnover on downs.

It's likely a safety, but I'm guessing that rule was put into place with the expectation that that scenario is very unlikely to occur.

Great place to do a fake FG, though!

For what it's worth, Madden 16 says the opposing team gets the ball on the 1-yard line, which doesn't make any sense to me. My intuition says "safety" because the spot of the kick is in the end zone, but I obviously can't find any 117-yard field goal attempts in NFL history to check this against, lol.

When the kick is in the field of play if the ball awarded to the other team at the proper spot in Madden?

I wouldn't want the circus involved, but as a potential resurgence I'd kill to have Griffin as my QB instead of the Patriot Rejects.

Yeah my guess is a safety for the defense since the ball is to be placed at the spot of the kick, not the LOS. Being such a unique situation that would probably never occur, it may be technically different but going by the rules for kicks on the field of play that's how it would go.

I wouldn't trust Madden to get it right since it's such an unrealistic scenario. Could very well be at the one as a special write in to the usual rule.

His stupidity on the field is kind of apples and oranges compared to the Deflategate stuff.

If anything it would be worse for anyone today following in his footsteps, he got what, a 1 game suspension after his 5th helmet to helmet w/ a QB? His arbitrators were also usually the jointly appointed Ted Cottrell / Art Shell too I think.
