Colts are obviously not close to the other top 4 teams.

But they're going to have a hard time improving the defense only through the draft because they win enough to miss out on being able to draft players at the top of the draft class.

They seem unlikely to close the gap with the Pats any time soon.

It's not the NBA. Plenty of good players get drafted with late 1sts and 2nds, even 3rds.

You use the pats, but they have been drafting in the last half of the draft for the better part of the last 10 years. Seems like you think that only impact players come from the top 10 picks in the draft. Colts will have their choice of one of the top 32 players entering the draft and its a draft that should have pass rushers a plenty.

As far as them and the Pats gap. That thing get closer every year brady adds a digit to the 3 behind his age while Luck is still in his 20's.

True, but every time they've played the Pats, the Colts haven't been competitive, regular season or playoffs.

They could have a stupendous draft this year but probably take a couple of years for those players to really hit their prime.

          I'm pulling for Luck though.

With the Kubiak hire in Denver makes me think Manning may be on his way out. Kubiak had a chance at Manning 3 Years ago with Houston and turned down the chance to even talk with him. Wonder if Elway makes this marrriage work or Peyton retires or moves on?

Good point. Brady was a 6th rounder.

Ugh…on another forum I frequent yesterday's results have Seattle fans claiming that Wilson = Brady/Montana while Luck = Marino/Manning. Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle defense were the MVP's of that game, not Wilson, and neither Brady nor Montana (without looking it up) ever had a game that poor in the playoffs.

Montana never had a game as poor as Wilson's yesterday, but FWIW:

Montana got benched as well in the latter two games. That's the problem with building legends around players based on their playoff performances. We only remember what we want to remember.

Brady did have the game in 2010 against the Ravens where he went 23/42 for 154 yards, 3.67 YPA, 2 TD, 3 INT. Wilson's game yesterday was 14/29, 209 yards, 7.21 YPA, 1 TD, 4 INT. Plus 1 rushing TD. Kinda similarly bad, I suppose.

Montana didn't get benched in the 49-3 debacle, he got knocked out (literally) by Jim Burt in that game. But obviously that game was nothing to write home about before then.

He did have what should have been a long TD early in the game, but Rice dropped it. People forget as well that the GOAT had the dropsies early in his career.

Walsh did turn to Young for a spark in the Vikings game. That's still one of my most painful losses as a fan.

C'mon, man. They didn't meet in Houston because the Texans were still doing really good with Matt Schaub and Manning didn't want to screw that up.

Manning not wanting to screw anything up in Houston is simply not true. He wanted to play in Houston, but they passed because they were seeing success with Schaub as QB at the time.

That's how the story was reported anyway.

I think it's definitely more the latter than anything else. Let's put it this way if McNair wanted Manning there despite the front office and coaching staff liking things with Schaub we'd be seeing Manning in a Texans uniform.
