Teams can gameplan if they know that their best WR will be covered and just attack the weaker nickel Cbs or just use their TEs more. It's not as drastic an impact as someone like a JJ Watt or Von Miller has on the game.

Best ? Nope , don't agree with that at all.

I think that when Revis went down Watt was having a far better year than him. For the most part Revis is only viable on passing plays. Watt can have an impact on every snap. Not saying Revis can't come up in run support, but on interior running plays his worth is very little, especially if your team can't stop the run.

That's at least the 2nd time I've heard "best defensive player" but I don't remember him winning DPOY. You can make an argument for him being the best if you want, but I think there are many people (including in the league apparently) who would disagree.

I'd say I want the Lions to trade for Revis. But if he's asking for top dollar there's no way the Lions could afford him with Staff, Megatron and Suh all on the books with pre CBA big contracts.

He got absolutely robbed 3 years ago (Sorry Packers fans, it's the truth), so that argument holds very little weight. Do I think Revis is the best defensive player in the league? No, but he's in the discussion. I do think the distance between him and the 2nd best is bigger than just about any other position in football (pre-injury).

It's the truth or is that your opinion? Because there is a difference you know.

The argument only holds little weight to people who think he got robbed. Everyone else (including the ones who voted) would completely disagree. And in terms of the people who have votes, they would be in the majority obviously.

Not that it holds a ton of weight but prior to 2012 season, both NFL.com and Cbssports.com had Revis #5 in the entire league.

Again, may not hold much weight to you guys, but I'm not sure you gives give him his due, nor his position its due.

I'm confused. I say I don't think he's #1 and you point to something that says he's #5 to show how I'm not giving him his due?

                        #5 in entire league.

Nfl had him as higest defensive player, CBS had him behind Ware. (before 2012 season)

I think Revis is a top 5 defensive player but I think his talent is best utilized on a team that has a good/very good CB on the other side to complement him otherwise as rangerrick012 said teams can gameplan against him and just throw to the nickel CBs or whatnot.

Look at it this way, Deion Sanders was noted for being a great shut down corner in his days with Atlanta but teams could just attack other areas of the Atlanta defense. It wasn't until he went to San Fran and Dallas that true team success came for Deion and he got a much bigger media push. Going to those other teams gave him a platform to showcase his talents to a wider audience.

It's called Revis Island for a reason though, he doesn't need the help. This gives the DC/HC a chance to shift help to the other side, if it's needed.

Agreed but Deion was thought of the same way and was in fact the biggest headaches for DCs when he was with Atlanta. I can see a similar trajectory for Revis that is, if he actually grows up and stops his ridiculous demands for more money every 2 years.

That was before the emergence of Watt and to a certain extent Miller though. Injury or not I think Watt/Miller would both have to go ahead of him at this point. Especially since it's being seen that the only way to remotely stop these high powered passing offenses is by pressuring the QB, not by shutting down the receivers.

Revis is a great CB, I'm just questioning how far a great CB can get a team if the rest of the D is average/below average. Seen it first hand in Oakland with Aso a few years ago.
