Those are good points by 86 and Jonsco. When you watched Manning in the past both Dungy and Caldwell (with the guidance of Tom Moore) utilized Manning's strengths in spreading the field and hitting the quick slants and routes that kept the receivers in motion. With the no huddle, it allowed Indy to get a defensive package on the field that allowed them to exploit the defense with those types of plays.

Denver's offense does not take advantage of this. Generally speaking, the routes Denver's wide receivers run are comprised of comebacks or outs that do not allow for YAC.

It's just frustrating because you have an unbelievable talent in Peyton Manning and it seems like they aren't taking advantage of what he can do.

What's most surprising to me is that the offense we're running right now looks VERY similar to Josh McDaniels' offense. Play-action from the shotgun, dink and dunk pass routes with an occasional strike deep. It doesn't look much like a John Fox offense at all. A Fox offense is a lot of power formations and using the run to set up play-action. We were in bunch formations and spread formations a lot. Two games now, we've seen a LOT of shotgun.

I see us running these 5 yard quick slants and ins, and the defense is putting 8 or even 9 guys in the box! No wonder we struggled with the run in this game, safeties are (once again) not respecting the long ball.

I don't mind out routes and comeback routes because it can really set up the long ball and take advantage of coverage. But we seemed content to run these routes from 5 - 10 yards and no further. Manning's arm strength is no issue. Watching the game yesterday, he had some throws that were wicked hot, and he nailed Stokley on that seam route.

I liked that Manning wanted to take some shots, but we need more intermediary throws. We need those throws that the Texans hit us with. And McCoy needs to figure out what it means to set up plays.

        Yep... I agree with that.

I am not happy right now, but I do believe Denver will be okay. It's obvious that the division is there for the taking if they want it.

Nice to see Hillman in there and Knoshow Nogaino inactive. Hopefully they figure out a way to get him more involved.

Everybody here has hit on it. Anybody who catches the ball needs to step it up. Manning can't put it right there everytime. Receivers have to make plays, too. The drops are sickening. Think about some of the Colt highlights with Harrison, Wayne, Clark, etc.... they made some awesome grabs. It wasn't all Peyton in Indy, and it can't be all Peyton in Denver either.

I too agree with all that has been discussed regarding Denver's offense. And McCoy continues to display his ineptitude as an offense coordinator. McCoy does not understand how to utilize a specialized QB's specific skill set ie) Tebow and now Manning. Their offense is so vanilla that it is not difficult for opponents to defend. McCoy has never shown any creativity, and him getting credit for Tebow's success was misdirected. At some point, Manning will have to take the keys away from McCoy and run his offense. I know Elway doesn't want to interfere, but he must know how Manning feels. That was what created the rift between him and Reeves. I could see Elway meeting with Fox and McCoy at some point to try to give Manning Carte Blanche with the offense.

What I find interesting, however, is the fact that the Colts did not utilize a large playbook. They basically ran a dozen different plays but out of a variety of different formations. I think Denver is trying to use this approach, but it's too early, and Thomas/Decker are still young. They haven't had enough reps with Manning to display what the Colts could do with Harrison/Wayne. Right now, Thomas/Decker are nowhere near the talent of Harrison/Wayne. It will take some time, but Manning needs the keys to drive this offense.

Fox was fined 30k, and Del Rio 21k for yelling at the Refs on MNF. Hope that cash goes into the real ref's paychecks.

Maybe that's the owners' plan... pay off the $2M of the official's backpay with the money in the coaching fine jar.

The 2 sides are so far apart that any more talks by the NFL and the officials is almost pointless. The players and coaches will have to adapt this year. We can just hope that these replacements are consistent with their poor officiating.

                Great points.

Remember when Peyton came to Denver and said it wasn't about him bringing his playbook to Denver and that he wanted to learn Denver's offense? Well, maybe McCoy's offense isn't worth learning. Yeah...I know that may be harsh (I get it...terminology is huge and having one guy learn it is easier than teaching the rest of the offense), but why would they bring Peyton here if they are not going to play to his strengths? Let him do what he does best and what he is the most comfortable doing. Let Manning be Manning. Let him run the offense, and McCoy can just 'coordinate' where he can.

It's going to take time and patience is required....

I could argue that Denver has a small playbook too. Bubble screen right, bubble screen left, off-tackle right, and off-tackle left. That's a joke, 86...

Is it possible to have a must-win in week 4 for a 1-2 team? Hard to say, but I think this is as close as it gets. They have to have this one on Sunday with a trip to NE looming next.

I dunno...honestly, I predicted a 1-4 start based on the schedule and the fact it would take Manning a month or so to get all the way back. I expect then a pretty good run to finish 9-7 or 8-8 and sneak into the playoffs.

I truely believe that Denver's playoff run begins this Sunday. It IS a must win, IMO, as the game is against a division rival and at home. They basically fall 2 games back with a loss.

Also, Denver fans attending the games have got to stop sitting on their hands waiting for a play. They've got to make Mile High a true home field advantage by bringing the noise! Why attend the game if you don't want to be part of it??? "It's a fair weather day here at Sports Authority Field...cricket...cricket..." So done with that too!!!

Being a divisional game with the real possibility of dropping to 1-4 is definitely why I think it's a must win.

Must win or not...they must win. The Raider's have owned them at home the last four years. Hell, all of the AFC West has owned them at home in recent years. It's time for it to stop.

I agree with you on the noise....and bring back the back-and-forth "Go Broncos" chant.

I'd call it a "better-win" game. If we lose, we're not toast yet, but vs the Raiders? You better win this game.

Mays got suspended for his hit on Schaub and Irving is probably still out. That leaves Denver pretty thin a LB, and the talent wasn't that great to begin with. This definitely doesn't help when trying to stop McFadden.
