    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Im going to Ireland for a week at the end of August.

Does anyone have any recommendations of a course to play while I am there?

I will only be able to play once. I will be in Dublin for 3 days and then my wife and I are making our way towards the Ring of Kerry for 3-4 days.

Thanks for any advice anyone can offer!

Haven’t played it but all the Irish guys I know rave about the K-Club if you’re gonna be near Dublin.

      EDIT: Forgot about Old Head.

I made this exact change for the exact reason you describe a couple of years ago. Like all grip things, it felt really weird for a while, but now I can't go back to interlock. I don't honestly remember how I ever interlocked before, as if I go back to it now, it just puts way too much stress on my pinkie finger.

Also, I feel like the interlock grip caused my right hand to get too far "underneath" the club, so the grip was sort of way too strong.

My only issue now is that new pressure points have developed using the overlap, but at least they are on the bigger fingers that are able to deal with it a bit better. With the interlock, I felt like my pinky finger was just going to break at some point LOL.

In the three rounds of tried out this grip, I have hit some of the best iron shots all season.

However because all things eventually equal out, I’m now struggling to get off of the tee from time to time. The wild 50 yard top is coming out.

Yeah, that's just golf in a nutshell, isn't it? It's zero-sum (seemingly): gains in one area seem to result in losses in other areas. Why? I have no idea. Let me know if you ever figure it out.

I looked up Old Head a couple weeks ago. Would love to play that course but for 400 euros for 18 holes, that is a little bit much for me haha. Maybe one day, but I cant do it on this trip.

That's awesome to hear about your success with the overlap (Vardon) grip! Switching grips can make a significant difference, especially if you're experiencing discomfort, like with your right pinky finger. It sounds like the overlap grip helped you keep your right hand more passive, which can lead to a more consistent swing.

Aside from reading guides, it might also be beneficial to consider other learning options, such as taking lessons from a golf coach. A professional can offer personalized advice and feedback to further refine your technique. Keep up the great work on the course!

Hey golfers, I'm new in golf, and I'm looking for a guide on what factors to consider while buying golf clubs! Also, I want recommendations on what you guys carry in your bag.

Hi Olivia, Just check your forum posts. Since I am now an intermediate in golf, I guess I should give you my recommendations!

First, practice is one thing, and second, I want you to focus on your basics and train yourself properly.

But again, once and for all, I recommend hiring a coach to assist you better.

I recommend you go with the Callaway Edge set as a beginner since these clubs are forgiving and affordable, and they would greatly help you.

I've covered the whole review of the Callaway Edge set and shared my opinion in this article.

                    Thanks!

                    Have a great day.

I believe I'm known here as the resident club fitter, since I work in the industry. If you want to DM me here or at my twitter on the same handle I can walk you through some options.

                        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Recent rundown as of late. Been ramping up my play a little more since it's starting to slow down a little with work but about to pick up for my trips across the midwest or so playing some golf.

Last few weeks have been playing a lot of the local courses. Gone 82, 77, 85, 79, 81, 79, 82, 79 on Wednesday and 78 this morning. Got the handicap down to a 5.9, which is wildly uncomfortable, but got that bad boy back up to a 6.3 with some older scores coming off. AI Smoke driver has been automatic this year. Wedges have been wonderful. Putting is always dialed in. Just have had some rounds where I've had my head up my *** with my irons. That's really been the only thing holding me back this season. I've got a few trips coming up to Massachusetts, that trip that Kehlis always wants to ban me for, and then one in Ohio. Will update with the views when we get there. Hope everyone is playing plenty of golf and hitting them well.

Ive been considering an AI Smoke Driver. I have a free club fitting at Club Champion that expires at the end of the year. I currently have a Cobra King Speedzone (2021) but I just feel like I am not consistent with it.

I have a Callaway XR 3 Wood that I hit exceptionally well and love the sound that of the ball when it comes off the club. So I have been thinking of getting a Callaway Driver, since I like the 3 wood so much.

Is there much forgiveness with the Smoke Driver? At times I do slice it, but I have mitigated that a lot, so it only happens occasionally when I get lazy with my backswing.

Have a buddy who purchased the AI Smoke and his mi****s are very forgiving. If I didn’t have the QI10, that would be my choice.

Try the AI Smoke Max D. My miss historically tends to be a bleeder to the right. I went Max D, and now my miss is a 5 yard cut without having to worry about it going left either. It's dumb good. I'd also suggest the Ping G430 10K. In my opinion, it's the greatest driver ever created. If I was a "free agent" with the driver, I'd have that in the bag, no question.

                                Some updates to the bag.
Just got my Titleist GT2 16.5° Fairway wood today. Beautiful looking rig. The GT drivers are solid, but the fairway woods are rockets.

A month or two ago I actually swapped in a SM10 D Grind 60° in favor of the HiToe 60° that I had become so used to. Was actually a solid move for what I do with the lob wedge.

Now just waiting on my new P770 short irons to be delivered in a couple weeks.
