Dustin purposely missed his second putt, so he didn't have to play another round at that POS course.

I'll admit the scenery was nice, but the course was in piss poor shape.

Pretty sure he didn't intentionally miss a putt that cost him thousands of dollars.

Mmmk. Yeah, joking on that first part. Though he didnt take very much time for such a crucial putt.

He should've watched Jason Day's putt. Almost an identical line. That putt was going three feet past regardless of how much pace you put on the ball. That pin was in that same spot on Thursday when I was at Chambers and every single ball went past that hole by about two to four feet. That little section of the green slopes down. I wasn't shocked he missed the eagle but I was totally stunned at him missing that three footer coming back.

Slowly going through the photos I took 1,400+. This photo I took on my phone during the Friday. It was my last day and I was watching the last few groups come through. Watched Cole Hammer come through as the days final group. The gallery that was left with me gave him a huge standing ovation, almost looked like he was going to cry. He obviously missed the cut but for a 15 year old to qualify for the US Open was quite a feat.

Yeah, that was the topic of much discussion in the immediate aftermath, especially since Day was pretty much asking him if he wanted him to finish for that exact reason. I think Day was trying to help DJ out by leaving his come-backer in case DJ had the same putt, but either way, they talked about it for at least a few seconds before Day finished. I get that DJ was trying to hole-out for the win, but man...gotta get yourself into a playoff at worst. Terrible ending there.

I don't blame him for not taking too much time. Its a 3 foot putt slightly uphill that your opponent just had and knocked in. You think about it too much and you'll miss it for sure. It should have been a no brainer.

I can't fault the guy for missing though. I've missed 3 foot putts in tournaments before with a lot less on the line.

DJ could have run away with that tournament his ball striking was on point. I think I saw him miss a handful of 6 foot birdie putts and another handful of 10 foot birdie putts on the last 2 days alone.

                Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

DJ missing putts is nothing new. He lost a US Open a few years back because of his putter. I don't know what you can do to really improve that, some guys are just great putters especially on Sunday on the back 9. Phil (still) has the same problem. Phil misses so many 6-10 footers that for all his crazy flop shots and "trick" shots he is allways in the cat bird seat when its all said and done.

The putter is what made Tiger so great when he was in his prime. He was almost automatic from that same 6-10 and its the thing that prior to his divorce was killing him. He was missing to many in that range. Jordan Spieth isn't the longest guy, and sometime does wonky things with his irons, but he is really good on the greens. If he doesn't block that 6 iron on 17 off the tee no-one is even talking about what DJ did on 18.

On a different note, seeing Spieth, and Rory so much recently has me longing for Anthony Kim to return. I know there are a lot of moving parts and he probably wouldn't come back the same way he was, but he was a youngster I liked and thought had a bright future in the game.

He's too busy collecting money from his insurance and partying in Vegas to care about golf.

Kim. A few years back might be more than just a few Woods did this piece with Kim. They were hitting drivers on the practice range. It's Kim's turn to hit. Woods asks him what loft his driver was. The kid had to look at the bottom of the club. Woods just rolled his eyes. Kim ain't comin' back.

Woods just cracked up and said "seriously, you didn't need to look did you?'
Kim said he was making sure and didn't want to lie to people

Anyways I've watched this many times. Good vid. Got me to try the whole choke up with driver (What Kim did) but it never felt good to me.
Although seeing Tiger happy and knowing the type of golf we were accustomed to seeing.. I really do miss the Tiger of old.

Chambers Bay just seemed so "manufactured" if that makes sense. Totally gimmicky. Like someone said, I was waiting for a windmill to sprout up on some of those greens. I would never pay money to play that course.

AK just seemed fun and fun-loving (probably way too much, hence his downfall). He was great on that Ryder Cup team, and I loved when he was paired with Phil - who repeatedly had to calm the exciteable youngster down during the round. But it seems hard to imagine him coming back now. If you're out for a year, the game could pass you by. If you're out for 4+ years....

That does make sense. I'm always wary of a course that was specifically designed to host an event; not that it can't be good, but it just seems, as you say, manufactured. Maybe with time it will seem less so, but there is a distinct lack of natural quirkiness that some of the old classic courses seem to have. It just didn't seem like a course that was built for regular people to play (even though it is a public course).

The greens were too severe and the choice of the grasses probably was a mistake. I don't know what you can grow out there but I don't think every course looks quite like that. Too many shots which appeared to be well struck and on the mark ended up too far from the hole. All that said the scores weren't all that much different from a tough Open setup.

The USGA is caught between a rock and a hard place. With the clubs shafts and balls as good as they are today I guess you have to trick up a course and make it play close to 8,000 yards to test most of the young lions out there.

At some point the USGA is going to have to get over the fact that their champion isn't going to be shooting par.
