Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
What just happened to Jason Day? I have no sound (watching through a window in a store during lunch break....sad, I know). Is he okay? Hit by a stray ball?Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Apparently he collapsed and/or is experiencing vertigo. The medical people allowed him to continue, so I assume they checked everything out. He was still struggling to finish, and if that had happened on his 2nd hole, I imagine he would have not been able to finish.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I can count on the OS'ers to set me straight.
Wow, hope he's okay. He looked really shaky even hitting that bunker shot. Hopefully it's a temporary thing. Scary to see a guy go down like that though.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Yeah, happened to one of my coworkers. He just fell out of his chair randomly one day and had to yell at us to help him. Turned out it was just vertigo - something gets messed up in your inner ear. Don't know if Day has a history of it or what. But it took a couple weeks for my coworker to get fully back to normal. They had to give him ear drops, and he had to do this weird therapy where they tip you around to different angles on an apparatus to try and get things re-aligned.Comment

Man, Phil is going to be in jeopardy of not making the weekend if he doesn't start doing his sweet thing and start doing it NOW...Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
It's weird watching it on TV, because it looks like there aren't a lot of fans out there (even though I know there's a ton). To me, that would be a lot more fun than something like Congressional, where it was just packed shoulder-to-shoulder the entire time, and I literally had a hard time breathing sometimes because if you know the DC-area, it gets hot, muggy, and there's no breeze or air movement whatsoever to provide any relief...I felt like I was going to pass out while standing on 18 watching Rory walk up to claim his first major (cool experience though).
Oakland Hills was a much better US Open experience, because there is more space to move around, but it still gets to be shoulder-to-shoulder at times. From the looks of it, Chambers Bay has tons of room and very few holes appear to be more than 4-5 deep in the gallery. I love how open it appears to be. For a spectator, I would imagine that makes for a much better experience. Not to mention just an overall nicer climate to spend a day outside in. And the amount of hills on the course also make it easier to be a spectator, I would guess.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
My only complaint about Chambers Bay was that it's not a spectator friendly course. The dunes you see on T.V block out a lot of views. I was there from Monday till Friday and I spent the majority of my time Wednesday scoping out areas that would give you the best views and believe me, there aren't very many that aren't grand stands. Hole 12 for instance, the green is very difficult to spectate unless you're on a certain part of the dunes/hills on the right hand side. Hole 8 you can't even get near and the only way you can even spectate the green was by being all the way up on top of the hills probably some 50+ feet above the putting surface.
Hole 9, 14 and 18 were IMO the best holes to watch as the grandstands kept you close to the action and you could see the entire length of the hole from the tee shots, approach shots and the putts. Most holes you had to choose where you wanted to be. With the bigger groups you had to plan your spots 2-3 holes in advanced as the good spots to watch you fill up quickly leaving you with no views of the players what so ever. Hole 10 was also a bad hole. Unless you were in the grand stands, you had no chance of seeing anything. People were actually climbing up the hill on the right on Friday just to get a better view, even though there were ropes below. I camped out hole 10 on Friday by where the players walk to hole 11 and you can barely see half the green and the players putts. Though I may have been on T.V on Friday when Kaymer made a mess of the hole as I was behind him in a teal shirt when he was playing his fourth from off the green by the gallery. I also witnessed Chris Kirk's hole out for eagle on 10 as well!
Walking the course from hole to hole was a pain as well. Some gallery ropes by holes would just stop, dead end. This would cause you to turn around and back track let's say hole 2 to another hole so you could cross the fairway of some other hole just so you could get to hole 3. I don't mind walking, but the way they laid everything out just made it hard to follow groups. It's not the USGA's fault, it's the courses design. You would think that in designing this course to host a US Open that they would've kept the spectators in mind. But there were some spots where they could've moved the ropes closer in as there were plenty of flat spots in the hills and dunes.
All in all I had an absolute blast and would do it again if given the chance. It's a shame that spectating the course was difficult. Monday I spent 5 straight hours on the range watching guys hit balls. Followed a couple groups around. Tuesday was probably the highlight of the week for me.
I was following Tony Finau from hole 4-6 when a Grand Marshall called out that Rory had just tee'd off hole 1. I literally sprinted from hole 6 down to the grand stands on 1. Continued to follow him all the way till his last hole on 9. The best part was the gallery was no larger than 30 people. Barely anyone on the course spectator wise. It was nice watching him play without the huge crowd. I got tones of photos off those 9 holes alone that I'll try to upload in the coming days.
Speaking of photos, I took over 1,400 photos and video clips over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Going to go through them tomorrow sometime and start uploading them to photobucket Monday. I'll post album links here. At first glance the photos look really good. By no means am I a professional photographer, but for the most part they turned out decent.Last edited by SinisterAlex; 06-21-2015, 02:21 AM.Xbox LIVE GT: oALEXtheGREATo

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Well looks like Monday is the day I get back out. Relaxing tomorrow and watching the US Open then on course Monday. My golf bud is done teaching for year (School let out on the 18th) so we'll be able to get out a lot between now and when school starts back up.
Supposed to be 91 so it will be a hot one.
Plan to go just a bit early to get a few extra swings in and some putting. Been a few weeks so I'm not expecting much but plan to have a nice fun day.Joshua:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I must admit maybe it has been this way, maybe not. But I think Fox has done a great job with the US Open this year. Maybe its because its on the west coast but them showing 8 hours of coverage today is just great. I enjoy seeing guys who I know won't win it like Phil and Rory play their round.Moderator

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I'm in a traveling league and every fathers day we have an outing the Saturday before in Ohio where we have someone cook out for us at the turn and then we scramble (weather permitting) afterwards.. He's from East Palentine, Ohio and played junior hockey with a few of the other younger guys in the group.
He was going to come last year but was busy playing for the Stanley Cup lol.
We pull cards to determine who plays with who and I was lucky enough to be in his group. He was a really cool down to earth guy and it probably helped that no one treated him like a professional golfer but just like another member of the league.Comment
