Well I just got a graduation gift from my brother today. Definitely something I would have never expected. We're actually step brothers, he doesn't have a good relationship with our dad or my sister, but him and I have always stayed in touched, despite only seeing each other a every handful of years, but we always talk. I got a Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2 putter in the mail today. I couldn't believe it.

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played my first 3 rounds of the year this week. I have decided to start walking this year because I'm almost 40 and tired of being out of shape and since I bought a membership I'm hoping to get at least 40 rounds in this year and walk at least 30 of them.
Anyway, the first round was alright, for s first round. I shot an 87, but had 39 putts so that was a little tough. had a lot of trouble off the tee as I couldn't get my timing down, probably because I have only hit my irons at the range so far this year. The short game let me down a little on Monday so I figure once I get that figured I should be okay. The course I play is Par 71. By the end of last season I was playing to a 12 handicap.
The next round was better as I shot an 81. Still not when I want to be, but I hit the water 3 times and OB once so there were a could an improvement. Again I struggled with the driver only hitting 3 fairways all round, but my putts were down to 32 with no 3 putts.
My last round was an 82, again 32 putts, but the driver shows some signs of life with 7 fairways hit, but I only hit 9 greens which means I need to get better with my approaches. It was a little windy during that round and the course has a fair bit of cross wind holes, so aiming was tricky. I still had 3 OB which needs to get better, but I felt I was hitting the ball a little more solid.
I am working on a different swing plane this season so I expect to struggle for a bit. I have added almost 10 yards to my lower irons, almost back to where I was as a junior golfer those many years ago. It's a little different so my aiming needs the practice. I need to get out and practice putting. They just started rolling the greens and I figure we are 2 weeks from having them playing the way they should be, although we need some rain and heat to help that.
Anyway, hopefully everybody has a great season. I will be checking back regularly to see how things are going.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
I played 4 times out in Palm Springs last week and got totally spoiled by those nice desert courses. We don't even have green grass here at home yet.
My putter needs a new grip in the worst way, so while I was out there I tested some out. Ended up going with a much larger grip than I had before.
Ended up settling on this one: http://www.golfsmith.com/product/300...tter-grip-1-8-
Unfortunately, the club workshop was closed at the PGA Store I bought it at, so I haven't tried it on course yet.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 04-24-2015, 04:22 PM.Comment

Installing grips is very easy to do If you wanted to go that route.Joshua:

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Takes about 3-5 minutes from start (Taking old grip off) to finish.
Rather save the $ than pay .. wife rubbing off on me in that regard..
Golf items get too much of my money already lol especially when I change wedge grips every 2 years.
But yeah it's convenient to drop off and pick up I suppose if you don't want to deal with it...Last edited by Skyboxer; 04-25-2015, 03:17 AM.Joshua:

The OS Golfer's Thread!
Such a frustrating (yet fun) round. I was blistering my driver today literally leaving myself short iron and wedge into almost every hole. Couldn't hit an approach shot the whole round.
Putter was also great. Greens were tough but fair. Despite the rain here last night the were fast. You had to be below the hole to have a legit shot. Longest putt was 15 feet breaking about 3ft right to left.
It was a beautifully maintained course and I had a blast but I left so many birdies and pars out there.
Edit: The SLDR technology is for real. Waiting a year and having a coupon $20 makes it easily the best $179 I've spent on golf the past 2 years.Last edited by N51_rob; 04-26-2015, 03:41 PM.Moderator

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Played my first few rounds of the year this past week or so. Didn't play much last season due to my play being pretty terrible. I had all sorts of issues with everything but my mid and long irons.
Anyways, first day I ended up playing 27. Walked the first 18, didn't really keep score but prolly shot about a 90. Not very good by my standards and my short game was a mess. Feet were killing me so I got a cart and played another nine with some randoms. Suddenly everything started to click. Ended up driving a 290 yard par 4 and drilling a 14 footer for eagle. First ever eagle on a par 4, I think 5th overall. Followed that up with a bird and then limped to the finish for a 38.
Walked 18 again Friday at Lake Doster (don't know if anyone knows that course of not), but it's fairly tough, not extremly but still tough. Quick greens. Had my best round in about 3 years. No birdies, but 13 pars and 5 bogeys. Very consistent. 3 bogeys were 3-putts, 2 were because my short game needs some serious work.
Can't wait to get back out there, I might finally have my game back.Comment

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
Making the transition of putters is very difficult. Especially when I didn't really see it coming. Going from a Nike Ignite 002 small mallet to a Scotty blade is so different. I have a pop tart box on my floor in my apartment that I'm practicing hitting into to get used to it. Played one round with it and did well, but not as good right away. Tough transition.St. Louis Cardinals | Milwaukee Bucks | Los Angeles Rams

Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!
My official golf season started yesterday. I play in a Sunday Afternoon skins/money league. I almost didn't go because my game has been so bad. I tried to create some lag in the off season to get more distance and totally jacked my swing up. I play with a lot of younger guys that can totally rip the ball. It gets frustrating watching them drive it 300+ while I'm sitting back at 240-250.
My first two times out I was dubbing my drive because my timing was off. Totally embarrassing. I was paired up with a couple of +2's that can just crush the ball. So yesterday went back to my old swing. Just trying to take it back nice and smooth to about 75% just to make sure I was making solid contact and putting the ball where I wanted to. Make a long story short, I shot a 77 in windy conditions. Really happy with that. Didn't win any skins though. I did hit a drive that was 310 which must have been wind aided. I hit a high boomer that just kept going. It was awesome because it was the longest ball in the group and I have never outdrove these guys before. Really happy with the score, but I really wish I could get consistent length. 280 off the tee + 240 with a 3 wood would be ideal. At least that way I could get some shots at eagles. Watching some of these guys go Driver 5 iron into the par 5's gives me a belly ache.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment
