I kinda want to check it out if it won't be inordinately expensive.

Well got home from work at 7:30 am.. Got to bed at 8:30... "slept" until 2:30 and then up to watch.
back in at work until 7am..
Going to be a looong night.. but worth it.

      Really happy Spieth won it..

And also agree (And taking nothing away from Spieth because everyone played on same course) but the greens were so attackable it was crazy.

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Hey guys, need some advice on new clubs. Not what to buy but if I should bother getting a club fitting before purchasing or some lessons prior (haven't had any before).

I'm off about 10-12 and my irons are much better than my driving. I could shave shots off if I just took irons off the tee as I can usually hit the same distance as my mates with a 4 iron. My putting is terrible though and that's with a new tailormade spider I got a few months back. Had an 85 last round with 43 putts.

So I think my ball strike is okay but I'm using an old nickent set I picked up from a reject shop years ago. Is it worth getting a club fitting or I've researched some new irons (forged musclebacks) and working on my game with those?

        Thanks

If you do not have the proper setup/swing then getting fitted is a waste IMO. Things like lie angle etc will be affected by a bad swing etc..

With that out of the way.. If you are striking well then I 100% think getting fitted for clubs is the way to go.
No matter what though it's always nice to be able to get a few lessons from a pro to see what they think etc..

For a few years when I was 1-2 years into it but not fully vested I used a TM knock off set. I couldn't believe the difference when I got my first set of Callaways. The feel and way the ball jumped off the face was an eye opener.

I never buy the latest and greatest though. Usually 1 or 2 years back. Currentlyu playing with Callaway XHot irons and TM SLDR-S driver. Cleveland and Titleist wedges.

          Good luck man!!

EDIT: Wanted to add to make sure you go somewhere that they truly want to help you and not just sell you something...

              Thanks man.

I definitely want to improve my strike. I get out of trouble a lot because I hit long and very high so usually a short pitch and I can hit GIR even if it's from another fairway over trees. That means my strike could definitely improve. I tend to draw my shots but still fade without intention at times. I assume for a club fitting you would want to hit the ball in the same area 9 times out of 10 first.

Am happy with my driver (TM R1 at 8 degree) but my irons are poor and can't wait to get a new set but patience means possible club fitting versus walking into a shop today and just purchasing.

Yep. Fitted clubs should be the next step in your game. I'm 6'2" and never had fitted clubs. My brother is 6'5" and uses a standard length club. I am not that good, but my brother has about a 5 handicap.

Lots of fun. My putter was on fire today. Despite the greens being uncomfortably slow. Hit some really good approaches on the back 9. I'm still fighting the changes to my swing, but after making them and finding out that I was a club short on everything, I am getting back to my normal yardages.

Its "National Golf Day" on Wednesday and the course is offering a round for $25 that includes a hot dog and a drink I will be back at it. The Bermuda grass hasn't grown in yet though.

As for Augusta, I like that it was "easy". The US Open should be all about the winning score being closer to par. I think of The Masters, the settings and the special feeling you get from it being all about the great shots, and a ball strikers paradise. I loved the the greens were so receptive. Seems like I'm in the minority, but if I'm gonna see +1, E or -2 win the US Open then I am all about -18 winning the masters personally.
