    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Completely different topic (hence the double post).

The GHIN system is really weird.

I was down to a 12 a few weeks ago. Lowest ever for me and that was after a very inconsistent season.

My last few weekends (6 rounds total) have been far lower than the rounds that got me down to a 12.

    I got bumped up to a 13.6?

I do understand that the calculation takes out top rounds and bottom rounds which would explain how an increase in good rounds could cause the handicap to go up but it's still weird to me.

I’m done trying to figure out their math. I just plug in my scores lol. (Currently a 30.7, low was a 27.4). First year taking it seriously with lessons, etc.

The nice thing about being single with no kids is there’s a lot of time for golf. I’ve carded 54 rounds so far this season and I’d say I’ve got about 60 under my belt.

Are all of these rounds on the same course?

Also keep in mind that it only looks at your 20 most recent rounds and there are considerations given for outliers (for example, if you shoot 7+ below your current number there are modifiers)

          Yea all different courses.

Maybe I had it backwards. I thought that out of the 20 rounds they took out like the two highest and the two lowest rounds and took the average of the remaining 16.

I thought they took the best 8 of the most recent 20 rounds.

If you go to your score history the scores with asterisks are the ones being factored in, I think.

The score differential referenced here is derived from a formula that includes the course's slope and rating and any other modifiers.

And THEN it compares your new average to that Low Handicap Index, which is your lowest handicap over the past calendar year.

Long story short, don't try to predict what your handicap is going to do and go with the flow lol

Entirely has to do with course rating and slope, with the tees played as a factor. Right now I'm at an 8.2 with 81, 82, 78, 83, 83, 81, 79, 83 as my scores, the 83's are Oakmont, and two tougher private clubs here. I have two 81's and three 82's that aren't counted because they were at easier courses based on rating and slope, or I played shorter tees those rounds. Because how tough Oakmont is, that 83 will hang on as one of my scores until it isn't in my 20 last rounds, because how heavily it's weighted because of the course.

That makes a lot of sense because I've played a lot of more difficult courses (slopes in the 130's) lately with higher (but good) scores compared to some really low scores at the easier ones.

Don't talk to me about your Oakmont shenanigans though. I hope though scores stick with you forever.

Shot a 115 yesterday. Cancelled my tee times for the next two weeks I’m gonna be taking a break for a bit.

Callaway is on some crazy ****. Their ‘23 line of Big Berthas just dropped and the prices are absolutely wild.

700 for the driver and 450 per iron.

It's a combination of their B21 line and the Star product. Ultra premium materials, crazy lightweight. The amount of tungsten in the clubs alone will make them that expensive. When you look at comparable products like XXIO, Honma, and TM Gloire, amongst others, it's not nearly as crazy as you think.

Bought a Caddytek push cart for 150 off of Amazon. Going to try to walk as much as possible when playing.

Did it for the first time a couple weeks ago and I loved it. Didn’t as rushed as riding can sometimes get.

This past August I made my biggest equipment change I've ever made. After 5+ years with TP5x, I started playing the Pro V1. Hadn't even tested a Titleist golf ball in a long time, but a friend of mine switched from TP5 as well and was hyping them up. I did some extensive testing and saw a 6-8 yard gain on my driver and woods, and a 4 ish yard gain on my irons, plus more action with my wedges. I was honestly appalled to see that significant of a difference. I'll definitely be playing ProV1 going into next season.

I’ve settled on the Bridgestone E6 for now. As a high handicapper (31), rookie golfer, I feel spending 50 bucks on a box of balls isn’t the move right now.

Wonderful golf ball for the money. If you see them at a good price TaylorMade Tour Response would be a good upgrade too. Likely see a little more action greenside.
