Yea I get it too. Thanks for help on loft. Right now I am aiming so far left to avoid hazards on left I'm losing distance anyways. So anything to straighten it out.

I used my buddies driver with a higher loft and hit it straight on the final hole. Didn't know if it was a fluke or actually helped with more loft.

With higher loft should I tee it up higher or lower.

    Really appreciate the help.

I called my cousin and he suggested the 4, so that's what I ended up with. Anybody familiar with the Nike Victory Red clubs or this one in particular?
Looks real nice, man. What a steal too! I have no experience with Nike hybrids, but I think a couple guys know enough to guide you in the right spot.

I'll be on the look out for some hybrids in the near future as well - but I can't do Nike personally, just not my brand

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Hey everybody! I'm playing in a tournament tomorrow and need some help!

The main problem in my game is that i cannot keep the club face square. I think that its square at address but then it just goes left. plus i draw the ball so it just goes further left.

so my question is, does anyone have any tips/drills i can do on the range to try and square my club face at address and keep it square through impact?

        Thanks!

I just simply put down two tees by the ball when I'm at the range. Lay them flat and leave them about a club head or so apart from each other. Put the ball in the middle and make your normal swing. If you hit a tee on either side or hit both, you didn't square the club face. If you hit the ball and leave the tees untouched, you squared the club face.

That's what I do when I go to the range. It helps me a lot.

@JWall -- I'm new but here are some things I notice I'm doing wrong when I hitting it left. I'm sure the experienced guys will drop some golden nuggets but here's what I got.

[*]Make sure your dominant arm (I assume you may be a righty) is only used as a guide hand. Sometimes when we try to 'kill it' our dominant hand takes over and the ball follow its natural follow through.[*]Speaking of 'killing it' -- make sure you are not rushing your downswing. Let the club do the work. When we try to speed it up our dominant hand takes over which causes us to hit the ball with a part of the club that we didn't address. If you're a righty that means we'll start going left. Nice controlled swings. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

I have no exercises I try personally but I youtube a lot -- they have some nice drills and tips. Then again, you have probably been golfing longer than me so I'm probably preaching to the choir.

Guys, if you can - post a video. It's the best way to help, honestly. I hate looking at my swing - but I know if there's an issue, I have to do so - because every other suggestion could either be blind or misguided. It's golf remember, what we think we are feeling could be completely different than what we are actually doing.

Shot my best score on a par 72 this year. I shot a 4 over 76. Normally when I played a par 72 course, I usually shoot around 7-10 over par. My short game was the best it's been this year for me. I only two putted a few greens, all the rest were one putts. My chipping and pitch shots were dialed in from the first hole.

I just got a summer job at cherry creek golf course on long island. Pay is minimum wage but it's free golf for me all week long and my shifts are Monday and Friday. I plan on playing a ton thru Thursday. it finishes with a par 6.

The best part about it is that I golf free at the sister course too.

Awesome. While I was in law school I worked at a golf course during the summer instead of clerking somewhere, mainly so I could play free golf. I wanted to be outside, so I worked on the maintenance crew. I figured I would get enough of an inside job once I graduated (I was right). It was fun and I played golf for free at that course and all the other muni courses in the city. I got off work everyday at 2:30. Me and the maintenence guys had a standing 2:34 tee time. Those were good times. Except the 5:30am clock in time, lol.

Played the same course as yesterday again today. I shot an 84 lol. Oh well :P

Also, I was thinking about buying a new 3 wood. I've been slowly replacing my old set of clubs with new stuff, and I think the 3 wood is next on my list. Has anyone here used the Taylormade R11 (non tp) fairway wood? If so, what are your thoughts on it? Golftown has it on sale for $148, regular $279.99.

Awesome Sounds perfect. I played today and it's relaxing knowing I didn't have to pay for about ten bad shots!! I'm a teacher so this gig is perfect.

Well I figure I'd post in this thread because I think I am finally ready to get into golf.

I have never played on a course but have been to a range multiple times throughout my life. I

I have never owned a set of clubs in my life so I went ahead and purchased a set of Top Flite XL golf clubs, they seemed to get good reviewes and I figure since I'm just a beginner and will be only going to a driving range for awhile it should be alright for me. I can add other more expensive clubs as I get used to my swing and can figure out with I need. My set should be here tomorrow and I plan on hitting the range with them on fridya.

I am not a total beginner to golf, I have never played on a course but would go to a range with my uncle who said my swing and mechanics were decent for a beginner. I think I benefit from most beginners because I have played hockey all my life and a golf swing seems very natural to me.

I'm 6'3 so I can usually generate some decent power when driving, but have trouble consistently hitting it straight, I am going to really try and focus and making my drives and shots straight and trying to rid myself of the slice I seem to have.

Other than that I look forward to talking with you guys and getting some great tips and advice, I have spent the last few days getting caught up with this thread.

I guess the first question I would ask would be how do you guys work on your putting game? Aside from actually putting on a green does a carpet at home and a cup help? I have a nice porch in my house that has some astroturf type carpet I think I could use to practice, but I am pretty sure my putting will need the most work.

Earlier this week I broke 90 for the first time. Granted it was on a 70-par course, but I was pleased none the less.

Last night I went out and played 9 at one of my favorite courses. Shot a 5 over, 41. Had a double bogey on the 3rd hole after hitting my drive into a tough tree area and failing to hit out of it.

Other than that I hit my tee shots and irons great. Chipping was much better too, and I didn't three put the whole round.

I think I'm starting to come around to the game more. I finally learned to hit down on the ball and my distance has increased ten fold. I used to pop everything up, but now I'm hitting much lower shots that carry much farther. Golf is definitely becoming more fun for me.

That's the key with me. I need to cut down on my putts.

Usually on my first putt I just try to make sure I put it within 3 feet of the cup. Ever since I started that I have improved my putting.

Yeah, I think the problem for me is that I've been focusing on having the perfect putt swing as far having a perfectly straight swing. That then causes me to not focus on speed and line, which I should be more focused on.

Going out today for a round with my boss. I will report back with my results later.
