    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Played my round yesterday and was playing decent for the first 7 holes, then everything fell apart. I'm not sure what I shot because I didn't keep score, but it was likely around a 95. I tweaked a muscle in my back working out the other day, so I think that had something to do with it, even though I didn't really feel uncomfortable at all.

Playing this Sunday with my girlfriend's family at their family reunion. Gotta use rentals though as I can't afford to get my clubs out there with me

Had essentially an identical round this past weekend...I was 1-over through 6, then made one bad decision (tried to knock it out of a gravel/brush area instead of just taking my medicine and an unplayabe) on #7, ended up with a Mickelson-esque snowman and then the wheels just fell off the wagon. Tried to right the ship late in the day, but hopes were dashed after roped one OB on the 15th. Woulda been a good day otherwise...

        Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Thought I'd post a quick little swing video. Was at the range today, thought I'd have my friend quickly record a few swings.

It's a pretty good swing, I just have to try and keep my head more still. It's going down toward the ground too much. I'm the type of person who gets bothered by the little details, so this something I just recently starting working on.

        Anyway, here's the video.

Played yesterday not a great round.

Does anyone play with someone who is no where near as good as them and they slow you down and you feel like they get you out of your rhythm?

            1. Posture, stick your butt out (like your doing a squat with weights) which will keep your back straight. Let the arms hang down naturally.

            2. The key to the start of the swing: think about your right shoulder blade, and make a movement as if you wanted it to go into your spine. This will naturally put you on plane for a one plane swing. It's very simple from there, just turn back the other way with your left side.

Try it out. He started changing this way (against my advice) on the back 9, and didn't hit one bad shot except for a duffed chip on # 16. He got his first birdie of his life (been playing for 10 years) and was so overjoyed.

I enjoyed the round myself, not about my score - but more about how elated this guy was after he seemed to struggle for a very long time. My highlight was an eagle on 7...but then quickly rained on my parade with back to back double bogies

If you need help, and really want to enjoy yourself on the course - feel free to pm me anytime. I'm not a teacher, and I'm not as good as authentic - but I've got free time and have literally tried every single golf method.
Thanks for the tips. Went to the range this morning and tried focusing on the second tip you gave me...pushed everything right and didn't get good contact. It's a work in progress. Here is some video (NSFW: some language in the last video):

My downswing is really out of whack.
Hey JJ - Honestly you're not far off. You just need two big things. Remember 90% of the golf swing is based on the set up.

I took of stills of you, compared to a good one plane swinger, Zach Johnson.

                Yours

                Zach's

                - notice the difference in how his butt is stuck back a bit more
                - Knees are bent a bit more, and weight is more towards the heels, rather yours is more on the toes (which is why your downswing is out of whack)
                - The end of the club of Zach's is pointing closer towards his pelvis, while yours is almost towards your gut - almost even your chest!
                - lastly, it's evident your weight gets to the outside of your right hip. This combined with a poor backswing, leads to inconsistency. The simple fix here, is just to push your right knee firm inside. As if you are trying to squeeze a medicine ball between your legs with just the force coming from the inside of your right knee. This will keep a lot of solidarity, and you will feel true torque to make the downswing automatic.

                Backswing

                Yours

                Zach's

                - notice how your arms completely come off your chest, this sets everything out of whack from the get go. As you come back down to the ball, it gets very steep and is why you are missing right - with poor contact.
                - Focus on almost keeping your upper arms glued to the sides of your chest. The glove drill is great, where you keep two gloves under your armpits, and swing that way. You'll feel more connected - and if your arms disconnected from your body - the gloves will fall out. Once you are in your follow through, you can let the gloves out.

Focus on these two things. Don't worry about the downswing for now. If you get the set up and backswing in-sync, the downswing will be automatic turn back through.

You're on the right track. You've got a solid build for a golfer, just need to make things a bit more compact. Start off with half swing to make good contact, then be disciplined enough to move to full swings only when you can make consistent contact/ball flight.

Good luck! Looking forward to the next video.

Jerzey - i'll check yours in a bit!

Matt, you just helped me by helping him! lol. What I will do is take vids from behind like he did to ensure my stance is right. . I'll also take a 'realistic' swing instead of trying to look cute in a video. It really doesn't change much but maybe their is something I do wrong when I speed up.

Thanks man. I suck at diagnosing my own swing because I don't like to look at it on camera. However it's "easier" to address some glaring issues on video.

                      Great!!

You've got the fundamentals of a solid swing. But without seeing the view down the line, it's hard to assume what your posture looks like.

In some still frames, I can tell you definitely use a lot of arms to bring the club down - and your body stops.

Try the same with the glove drill, keep your wrists soft.

Also, it's a bit of a slow swing - which could be because of no ball on the ground - but at the same time you should get used to swinging through the ball.

IF you do swing without a ball, make the swoosh sound of the club happen AFTER the club has swung through the grass. If you do this, you will naturally speed up your swing, in a good way, and when a ball is in front - you will see a different flight than usual. Furthermore, it will make contact even better because you're not slowing down to hit positions - you're just swinging through.

Something here just look off to me.

I feel like your stance is a little too narrow. I also feel like your using your arms as your main drive in the swing.

Shoulder's in use until your left arm is level with the ground, turn with your hips into your club is level with the ground. That's how a backswing is generated. As for a downswing, it's mostly all in your lower body. You should be moving forward before your swing begins to start it's downward plane.

Don't get carried away with this. You shouldn't be like a slap hitter in baseball. Remember, your head should stay in the same spot the entire swing. This is mainly your lower body. When you see a pro golfer swing, his head is actually behind the ball, because if you look at it before the swing, that's where it starts at.

A good video to look at is SinisterAlex's. He has a very fluid, compact swing. His video really shows how to use your whole body throughout the swing.

I'm planning on getting a video out there once I can get some clubs here. Nike is taking forever and frankly, I'm getting a little irritated.

I'm going to Phoenix for a golf trip and planning on playing the big courses down there, which will be rough if I can't get some time in before then.

Played a tough course right before I sent my clubs in, which was about a month ago, and shot a 78. The course is almost on the PGA level, I'm not even kidding. I don't think I ever saw one of my drives hit the ground, yeah one of those courses. So worth it though.

I'm probably going to replace my blades with the VR-S line from Nike, seeing how those are next level down from blades. The blades just aren't meant to last it doesn't seem like, which is a joke because I unloaded a ton of money on them.

I picked up this today at Golf Town on sale for $60.

I'm seriously loving Nike clubs. I'm a Callaway guy, but I've been reading up on Nike clubs and I liked what I was reading and watching from videos. So I went into Golf Town today to purchase this club. They didn't have a 3 wood in a left hand version, so I had to settle for the 5 wood. Best purchase I've made to date.

I'm really loving the Str8-Fit technology, I put the face slightly closed to promote a draw. Easy to adjust as well. Great system. So I came home, got my golf clubs and went out and played a round with some friends. I'm very pleased with the results. First few hits I took with the VR Pro Fairway Wood I topped the ball. I was so used to my old wood lol. After I got used to the club and the feel, I was hitting the ball solid every time. Great sound and feel off the face.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a new fairway wood.

Yeah, I swear by my Nike VR wedges. I have Ping i10 irons, but I love, love, love my nike wedges. My game is so much better from about 120 and in with them. I can spin it, shape and score with those clubs. I'm my 4 man teams go to guy when we get in that range.

Still haven't holed out from distance, but I have come close and have left some violent pitch marks close to the flag.

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a new fairway wood.

My dad has this and he likes it. He has some lower back problems so doesn't hit it all too long, but he keeps it in the short stuff. I'm a lefty and have always struggled with a wood off the deck. I've been a player to hit my 5 iron, then a wedge and two putts for par. I'd like to try it out though haha.

Just got a new set of Callaway Diablo Edge irons yesterday. Can't wait to get out and try them Sunday or Monday.
