    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Just purchased this off of GolfTown today. Free shipping.

I've been looking at bags for around a week now, I was originally leaning toward getting a cart bag, even though I always carry my bag. But the thought of it only having one shoulder strap and the possibility of it being a bit heavier turned me off. At the same time, I wanted something that had the same features as a cart bag such as 14 way full length dividers, 8+ pockets, comfortable, etc. So I stumbled upon the Nike Performance Stand Bag.

I Went to GolfTown a few days ago and tried it on for size. It felt really good and had a lot of room for extras. But it was at the time, 199$, a bit more than I was willing to spend. Today, they had the bag on sale online for $127. So I jumped on it. Can't wait for it to get here!

I played yesterday and was shooting par thought 3 holes. My best start ever. Then the heat got to me. Ended up finished 19 over par.

Heat index was 106 here. I can't wait to play in the fall.

Finally got out for the first time this year after waiting due to I knew I would be gutting my old bag and getting new equipment.

Shot a 87 which isn't to bad for the first rd of the yr. missed several birdie putts that could have lowered my score. Just glad to be back playing

I played literally the absolute worst round of my life today. Had we not been playing captain and crew, I would've been up near 200. I didn't make good contact on one shot all day. I was good around the green with chips and putts, but everything else was garbage. I made every adjustment I could think of and nothing worked...such a nightmare. Sometimes I feel like I was one of the people that aren't able to become good at golf

            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Yesterday was officially the day golf became fun for me.

Got my first ever par by chipping it in from like 60 yards out. Had another shot with my pitching wedge from like 100 yards away that I landed right next to the hole. Had a 30 foot putt or something like that that I dropped. And I actually made good contact on almost all of my shots.

I haven't posted in here before, but I have like an extra bone in my thumb basically and it makes it hurt like hell every time I swing, and I've never had any lessons before or anything, so I decided to change my grip yesterday and started choking up on the club so that my lead hand went past the grip on the handle a little bit, and I held it like a baseball bat basically. It took a lot of pressure off my thumb, and even though I wasn't swinging very hard, I was able to actually hit the ball and get good height and everything literally every shot, which was a first for me.

Ended up with a par and a couple bogeys, which is very good for me. It was also the first time I've ever played 18 holes. Ended up shooting a 110 because my putting was a lot worse than usual, but I was so excited to finally be hitting the ball well. I always come in last when I play with my family by a good margin, and yesterday, I tied my cousin for 1st and beat my dad by 10 and my older brother by 16.

I went to a pretty nice driving range yesterday. They even had a practice bunker next to a green. It was nice to be able to practice that. I definitely feel more comfortable out of bunker now. Usually I try so hard to avoid them I make stupid shots.

But after 2 hours practicing I feel like I can try to go over a bunker and if I end up in the bunker is not a huge deal.

JJ, I played a group with a guy who swung just like you did. He had every kind of miss out there. He asked me for some help and I gave him two things to remember:

                1. Posture, stick your butt out (like your doing a squat with weights) which will keep your back straight. Let the arms hang down naturally.

                2. The key to the start of the swing: think about your right shoulder blade, and make a movement as if you wanted it to go into your spine. This will naturally put you on plane for a one plane swing. It's very simple from there, just turn back the other way with your left side.

Try it out. He started changing this way (against my advice) on the back 9, and didn't hit one bad shot except for a duffed chip on # 16. He got his first birdie of his life (been playing for 10 years) and was so overjoyed.

I enjoyed the round myself, not about my score - but more about how elated this guy was after he seemed to struggle for a very long time. My highlight was an eagle on 7...but then quickly rained on my parade with back to back double bogies

If you need help, and really want to enjoy yourself on the course - feel free to pm me anytime. I'm not a teacher, and I'm not as good as authentic - but I've got free time and have literally tried every single golf method.

I don't even have clubs right now. My blades turned out to be defected. Trying to talk Nike into changing me sets so I don't have to deal with it every year.

You have to be careful with your stance though. I generally teach a 20 degree angle with your back. I don't teach sticking your backside out because it can lead to a lot of ground hits and off the toe shots. The best way to teach posture is to be super relaxed. If you're not comfortable, there's a problem.

I know a lot of good golfers however that do a firm back. Another key is to swing with your shoulders and not your arms. Swinging with your arms can lead to high swing planes and huge slices.

Sorry to hear about the clubs, man. That stinks. Guess you will have to settle shooting par with the tin cup shovels and rake

I get what you're saying about posture. I use a one plane swing action being short and all, so there is more of a bend. You tall guys could be the more upright action. Although you still haven't posted a video so what would I know lol

I have been mostly hitting balls at the range but I didnt play golf for a year after my clubs got stolen in 2010, I just bought some Ping I3 irons from my neighbor and bought the Nike Victory Red straight fit Driver with 11.5 loft, Ive hit them pretty well for someone who has not played at the golf course for over a year. been four times this year my first 9 holes I shot like a 46 then came back and shot a 36 then a 44 then a 39..Wildly inconstant so I think Ill mostly hit range balls for the rest of the year maybe play a couple more rounds soon..

Been hitting the range everyday since buying my new clubs last week. I did take a break today

Can't wait till the weekend to see how I do after an almost 3 year layoff and shoot an 87 this past sunday. No doubt in my mind I would have shot lower had it not been for me using a friends wedges as mine have not arrived yet. I was able to get Cleveland CG16's 52,56,60 degree off EBay brand new for $172. Was shocked to get all three for that price new

Awesome stuff guys. I actually met a golf buddy (I play by myself) this past weekend, which was cool. We are hooking up to play Stone Canyon Golf Club in Blue Springs, MO. It's a Greg Norman design, from the tips it's like 7,000 yds.

Play golf at Stone Canyon Golf Course located in Blue Springs, MO.

                            Wish me luck :/

Man my back is fried after doing 18 holes for the first time in my life and then hitting at the range for a couple hours the next day.

Such is the life of being a 20 year old with a bad back...

On the bright side, I hit the ball really well for myself both of those days. It's amazing how much better I've been hitting since switching to more of a baseball kind of grip on the club.

I think the furthest I hit the ball was somewhere between 180-200 yards with my 4I, but that's about 180-200 yards further than I usually hit with it lol.

I feel like I was hitting 130-150 yards no matter what club I used lol. Only thing that was changing was the height of the ball, but I can live with that. It's so exciting to finally be getting the hang of golf.

I've never had lessons or anything and I just started playing probably 2 years ago, and I only play like 5-10 times a summer and that's it for the year, but all of a sudden the other day everything finally clicked for me.
