    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Hitting a blade 3 iron is tough, which is what I play. I've opted to remove it from my bag and replace it with a 910H. Now I have another problem...I hit it too far lol

It's supposed to be lofted like a 3 iron, which when I hit it good travels about 235. I've been hitting this hybrid about 255-260.

My son is 14 and my size and will probably be bigger than me by Labor Day. He is using a hand me down set of store brand irons which are terrible and now that his swing speed is picking up I feel they are holding him back. The summer i used them i felt like i was holding a hand full of bees. However, I don't want to spend a fortune on clubs for him right now because if he sticks with the game I want to get him fitted when his body stops growing.

I'm considering two options: a set of older game improvement name brand irons, or a current gen set of clones from somewhere respectable like Gigagolf (who I have bought putters from with good results). He is a Nike fanboy and I could get him a set of Slingshot irons for about $150.

Any opinions? Has much changed in the game improvement category in the 6 or so years since the Slingshots came out other than marketing buzzwords? I play TM Burner Pluses and I don't feel much difference when I've hit Rocketballz. Is the psychological factor of playing "his" brand as likely to boost his game as any slight tech advances that the clones might include?

Side note I'm talking clones not counterfeits.

I don't think there has been that much improvement, glad you mentioned buzz words because that is really what it is. You can get a set for under $200 at gigagolf, or even check out golf galaxy with their pre-owned sets.

I own the clone version of the slingshots and absolutely loved them. If I wasn't such a Mizuno blade lover, I'd play them.

If he's a Nike fanboy I would try and find a used set of the Nike VR S Irons. Really decent game improvement irons. The Taylormade Burner 2.0 irons are also really good though the lengths and lofts are a jacked up (5 iron is really a 4 iron.) But I've heard and read nothing but good things about them.

I've never bought anything off of Gigagolf so I couldn't comment on that.

                Yes to the Ebay.

As an alternative - you can join the most trusted golf website, GOLFWRX and spend an hour (or lifetime depending how much of a club ho you are) researching the classifieds section:

Yes they are. That's actually not a picture I took however the condition of them were damn near brand new, fresh out of the box.

And you're never going to believe me when I told you what I paid for them.

Yes, I wanted to try the Bridgestone E6 in orange. Used their eBay store as their website charged for shipping, but through ebay it was free. Got the balls, and of the 12 I ordered I would say that all 12 were AAAAA like they said, one had a pretty good scuff, but nothing that affected flight, and one was discolored, but again nothing that affected ball performance. They do a very good job IMO, but I have only used them once, but if I want to try out another ball I will use them again. As it stands my bag is now full of the E6, and the NXT Tour-S.

That's funny because that's the ball I was looking at just now. Either the e5 or e6. Thanks for the response
