I think they also said that, in online matchmaking contest, you only play 9 hole rounds...is that also true?

Pulled this from the Reddit Q&A that hit last night:

"Currently all 15 licensed courses are in rotation for matchmaking—the front and back nines of each.

We have the ability to add and remove courses from matchmaking at will, including player-created courses."

To me, that sounds like you can only play 9 holes at the officially licensed courses, until they decide otherwise.

Why does these games from HB always seem to have a bunch of "gotchas" and limitations and/or quirks?

      It's so frustrating.

Why would they think anybody wants online matchmaking to be limited to one specific skillset and set of rules?

      That sounds - awful

For me - we can skip right to release and get some normal users hands on it and the real information will flesh itself out quickly.

Excited to hear some thoughts from the group here when you all buy it and give it a couple weeks.

I am still very much on the fence of even buying the game (especially at the $60 price tag).

I am liking a lot of what I see, but it still seems to be missing something for me when it comes to single player career. Not to mention none of today's info shows anything about online multiplayer or societies.
I'm with you guys - until it's out in 'the wild' in the hands of real users, it's hard to know what to make of things. I appreciate that there was significant gameplay content released today and I will say that I am cautiously optimistic, but not so blown away that it moved the needle for me significantly. Most of what I saw (I haven't watched all of it....I do have a job LOL) was on really easy modes so it's hard to know what to make of that. Also, I'm hoping the game looks better and is highly customizable in the release, since there are some things that would bug me (the heaviness of the line of the ball-tracer, camera angles used in the gameplay, etc) but are not deal-breakers. Honestly, though, can't they just watch CBS golf for a weekend and then make the presentation look basically like that? You don't have to reinvent the wheel here, I just want the game to look like a standard TV broadcast, similar to how NBA 2K looks like a TNT hoops broadcast.

Do I want to play a match with putt previews, a ridiculous shot aid btw, enabled? No! It's not so much that I mind the Pro, but do we need an overly generous aid of that magnitude in "Pro" difficulty?

It will take public matchmaking off the table for me.

And "putt preview" -- I'm sorry - that shouldn't be in the game at all.

Yeah, I can see putt preview for the easiest mode (trying to get people that know nothing about golf to understand green-reading, essentially) but beyond that, it has no place whatsoever in a game. That is basically the equivalent of rolling a ball down your line before you putt, which is black-and-white cheating per the official rules of golf. I could see being able to watch another player's putt if you so choose, and then if you are lucky and they have the same putt as you except from a slightly further distance, hey - that's your good luck, just like in real golf.

But having a line that draws out the exact line of the putt is cheat mode all the way.

It's no error. I just had a discussion about it with HB_Craig in Respawn's Twitch stream. It's for real. They're trying to offer the mode that they feel will be the most inclusive and appeal to the newcomers. I argued that putt preview is such a phony, supernatural aid that it has no place above beginner difficulty. They stand by their research that it will have the broadest appeal and reminded me that "you still have to hit the shot". I knew we were on different frequencies at that point

What I don't get is.... Who is buying "PGA Tour 2K21" that knows nothing about golf to the point that they don't even have a clue how to read a green?

And even if that customer exists -- is it really that "wrong" to ask them to hit some putts over the course of some rounds and "figure it out"? Honestly -- anyone will pick it up very very quickly just by watching what happens.

"Putt preview" is just a ridiculously dumb feature -- nearly on par with EA's "spin the ball in mid-air" garbage.

                  What an immense disappointment.

"You still have to hit the shot" -- I don't know Craig -- what about an "auto-hit" function as well? We wouldn't want to be too inaccessible here... /s

Auto-aim, auto-hit, putt-preview, hole in one or two per round...

Yes, just like you still have to press the "X" button during a quick-time event....

Besides, it sounds like the whole conversation was one big non-sequitur - no one is saying it shouldn't be available in online play, it just shouldn't be mandatory for everyone in public matchmaking.

I'd have a lot more faith in this game if I had any reason to believe that the people in charge of making it knew anything whatsoever about the subject matter which their game is allegedly attempting to reproduce....

Just got confirmation from Seamount4Life that you cannot swap out the preloaded courses in career mode for user-created ones. So you're stuck with the ones they put in. For example you can't use Firethorn National for the year's first major.

"Trick out your own course with the Course Designer"

"You’ve already seen the 15 officially licensed PGA courses that were announced for PGA TOUR 2K21. But maybe you’ve got the course of your dreams (or an opponent’s nightmares) bouncing around in your head. If you can dream it, you can build it with the PGA TOUR 2K21 Course Designer!

Pick and choose from thousands of custom options as you build the wildest, wackiest, most punishing course that anyone will ever see in their lifetimes.

Clubhouses? Check. Cacti? Sure. Squirrels and skyscrapers? If you say so! It’s all there for the building, and you’re the master builder. Once your madcap masterpiece is complete, you can share it with players around the world, and across all platforms. Because it’s their problem now.

I know, it sounds out of touch to me and I'll never agree with them on it. That's the worst news I've heard about the game today, just ahead of the fact that it "sounds" like 2K21 is only going to get "stock" backward compatibility on the PS5 and XBox Series X. They'll run them but *apparently* no better than an XBox One X, or PS4 Pro.... I was soooooo hoping for 60 FPS on the XBox Series X!

Other than that, I'm mostly pleased beyond expectations with what I've learned today. They've put way more thought and configurability into the game than I would have ever imagined.

Wow. That's actually the biggest downer for me among all the news that's come out today. I could live with the crappy news about online public matchmaking, since I don't envision playing online much anyway, but not being able to create your own PGA season with all the real/appropriate courses is a massive disappointment.

It's no different than if an NFL game didn't get the license to Lambeau Field, so your week 8 game @ Green Bay took place at Kezar Stadium. Except to make matters worse, the game offered a "create-a-stadium" tool and someone made a pixel-perfect recreation of Lambeau Field, but you just couldn't sub that in for your week 8 game location because the game wouldn't let you. Disappointing, to say the least.

I'm still wondering about that EA next gen golf game next year that the tech/games reporter commented about earlier this Summer -- for next gen consoles also.

This 2k21 effort clearly seems targeted at using and building on the PS4/XB1 era work HB had done that past 5-ish years.

Just the fact they are so out front about 2k21 relying on "backwards compatibility" is pretty disappointing -- particularly on the eve of new consoles launching, which of course doesn't happen very often.

I mean - how can that be the plan for the next couple years?

New consoles come out and literally ALL the excitement is for new titles that take advantage of what the latest tech is capable of.

Also just heard that these streamers only have today to play their copy of the game, and then it goes away. So this is it...there won't be more live streams I guess until release in two weeks.
