And even if that customer exists -- is it really that "wrong" to ask them to hit some putts over the course of some rounds and "figure it out"? Honestly -- anyone will pick it up very very quickly just by watching what happens.

"Putt preview" is just a ridiculously dumb feature -- nearly on par with EA's "spin the ball in mid-air" garbage.
Everything should be able to be toggled to a player’s liking but there are a lot of us who need putt preview. Think of it as getting help from the caddie. Myself and a friend of mine watch golf every week and I’ve played every major golf game since ps2, but I can NOT hit a putt without it. The green grid just doesn’t translate for me, and my buddy, a much better player, feels the same way.
My point of this is play without it if you want, but don’t be eliteist and drive away others who want to play too.

With respect, I stand by my comments about putt preview.

It’s essentially a cheat that is equivalent to a free stroke.

If other ways to visualize the contours are needed for accessibility, I’m fully in support of that...but showing you the exact line is too much. Way too much.

Putt previews have been in golf games for years. I don’t have a problem with it. Online play should/needs to have a limit or cool down. Saying it’s a cheat is a stretch. Offline play vs cpu, who cares?

Ugh. People online are already either gods at putting, or never take the time to learn it anyway and chip until they have a tap in. This isn't going to make bad putters good, they'll still go for their 9 foot chips that stop dead, and will make the people already good at putting absolute monsters. I expect 30-40 foot breaks dropping to be the norm now. The best part about TGC was that the putting felt so good, I really never complained when I missed a putt unless I pushed/pulled it. Now, too many people will be making incredible putts

I have never explored the societies portion of the game since I only play with friends in a “live” 18 hole setting.

Is this a group? I know that cross platform is not enabled, but can people from various systems be in the same society? I may this all confused in my head! Like starting a tournament, and then everyone’s scores just post?

I was questioning this to see if there is a way around no cross play? IE: two of buddies at on Xbox. Two are on PlayStation and I have both. I am still probably waiting on a price drop based on what I heard, but can this systems “come together” in a society?

No, Societies are platform specific. That's essentially why people got together to create the TGC Tours - it was the only way that people could compete against others across all consoles and PC.

Just thought of/realized another thing in relation to our inability to swap out courses in career mode - someone on another site mentioned that, in TGC 2019, AI scores in career mode were based on course rating/slope.

I know when you'd even set up an offline society that would try to emulate the real PGA TOUR, and you'd try to use a course that was not handicap rated, it would put up a pop-up message, saying that unrated courses may produce odd AI scores. I would assume that's another reason why they force you to use the "official" courses.

I still feel that they could/should allow course swapping, and besides, most of the courses we'd be using to make a real-life schedule ("Firethorn National", Pebble Beach, etc.) are sure to be handicap rated anyway as they'll have thousands of plays.

They're not allowing people to do it because they don't want to get sue by Augusta, Pebble Beach, Royal Melburne, etc. It's as simple as that. If it was so easy, EA could have made a knockoff of Augusta 20 years ago, call it something else and include it in the PGA season. We've already seen Magnolia and Melburne get the XXXXXXX treatment in TGC 2019, it was not just for fun and laugh...

But that's kind of what TGC 2019 did with Fiddler's Green and the fake Masters major event that game had. Fiddler's Green was a user creation, but was clearly inspired by Augusta...I mean:

I know they had to censor names in the game for some of those prominent course reconstructions. And I understand that they want to be as careful as they can not to get in any legal hot water. But restricting the single player mode to the point you're simply stuck playing the same fake courses in half the season events, they're taking away a lot of the appeal to the offline experience.

If they're gonna go this route in terms of career mode for the entirety of this series, they're gonna need to get more than 15 real-life courses in the game.

I don't see what the difference is if you play Pebble Beach, Augusta (Firethorne/Magnolia) Whistling Straights, etc when you play "play now" or in Society as opposed to putting it into your offline career mode. The course is there either way. So I don't feel that would be a legal issue for a user to swap out a course.

And giving the user this option doesnt mean they are doing that. Maybe they want a course they created in the schedule.

Hope this is changed or someone creates a PC mod to allow it to work.

I kind of wonder if it is more tied into future DLC that was alluded to for future courses. Less incentive to buy DLC Pebble Beach for your career if you can use a created Pebble Beach.

Still looking forward to this game. Hopefully it does well and continues to improve in future.

If HB could do it, I'm sure they would as just about everybody has forever requested it. They would sell a lot more games and nobody would be whining. Well not quite but that's another story.

As soon as it has official PGA season, it's going to be like that. We're still fortunate to have our societies to play whatever courses we want.

Catching up on some more of the streams that happened yesterday, and I am getting a kick out of the community fawning over things that other golf and sports games had in the iterations from the current and previous generation of consoles - going back to PS3 and Xbox 360.

                            Grass textures!
                            Backspin on approach shots!
                            Realistic shadows!
Real PGA Tour pro names on the leaderboard!
                            Yardage book!

I know EA gets a load of negativity for removing things, then adding them back in and saying they are new features, but obviously they aren't the only ones that do this.

I hate to be negative, but I just noticed this and got a charge out of how people are so excited about seeing real players' names on career mode leaderboards - something that could be done in games from 20+ years ago.

It's because we were taking everything for granted and golf sim customers are very fussy and fickle. Having said that, I still can't believe they'll have putt preview in ranking multiplayer and that's the only mode. This is all so wrong for a golf sim like that.

Particularly hilarious is seeing the comments lauding things like backspin.

It’s been a long bugaboo of mine that getting physics and shot outcomes right has been so low on the priority list for something that purports to be a golf simulation.

Related to the comment above about Putt Preview...

I just can’t believe there’s only one mode for online matchmaking and they chose to enable that particular feature. For the long term, to me that’s a huge huge mistake. I really hope they add some optionality there at some point.

                                Does anybody know…
Does everybody’s golf have a putt preview?
What about other more arcade focused games?

I just can’t get over how much it’s bothering me that they are enforcing that for online matchmaking...in a golf “simulation” with PGA licensing.
