Re: PGA TOUR 2K21 August 6 Streaming Content Thread
Do they want people to see it and be excited about it or not?
It's such a bad look to be restricting things this much, this close to release.
Call me cynical, but it really feels like they are trying to pump the market for pre-order money and keep people in the dark just long enough to cash the checks...Comment

I guess it's hard to blame them..
If people are so impatient that they'll fork over money in advance for literally no benefit other than some tiny digital "perks"...
Hell -- take the money I guess, right?
lol
It's a strange world out there nowadays.Comment

Wow. That's actually the biggest downer for me among all the news that's come out today. I could live with the crappy news about online public matchmaking, since I don't envision playing online much anyway, but not being able to create your own PGA season with all the real/appropriate courses is a massive disappointment.
It's no different than if an NFL game didn't get the license to Lambeau Field, so your week 8 game @ Green Bay took place at Kezar Stadium. Except to make matters worse, the game offered a "create-a-stadium" tool and someone made a pixel-perfect recreation of Lambeau Field, but you just couldn't sub that in for your week 8 game location because the game wouldn't let you. Disappointing, to say the least.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K21 August 6 Streaming Content Thread
I would imagine that this may be at the request of the PGA. They are promoting their sport as well as their courses so why would they allow users to change those courses in the PGA Tour Career mode. It sucks, but I get it from their stand point. HB could look at a completely fictional tour where you could set all of the courses, but I am not sure who would play that if you weren't allowed any of the PGA stuff.
15 courses included in the game are real, and the events attached to them are real, so no one would want to swap those out if they are looking for a true realistic career experience. The rest of the career mode schedule is made up of events on fake, created courses...ones that the popular designers made in previous games going all the way back to TGC2 I think. Why couldn't we swap those out, since those are fake ones anyway?
The more I am watching of these streams, I think the reason they won't allow swapping is because there is specific commentary now tied to the fake, user-created "HB Official" courses. So swapping them out would take that away...perhaps even the real pro cutscenes factor into that.Orbis Non SuficitComment

He's right for the TW game, but this won't work at all for this game. This is not the same customer base at all, even though they were marketing everything easy to try to attract the arcade guys. I presume they think for the harder settings, that's what societies and the TGC Tours are for and there's always the private match.Comment

This is really no surprise at all... it's all about licensing.Comment

Shouldn't the goal to be having many many people playing across a wide range of play types and difficulty levels?
It seems drop dead homogenized boring to force all of it through exactly one specific level and style of play.
This is so weird. It's like forcing all real golfers to play with only a "medium sized golf glove" -- for some reasonLast edited by scagwi; 08-06-2020, 07:10 PM.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K21 August 6 Streaming Content Thread
I can kind of get this angle, but like I said above, I still don't see it. Half the courses and tournaments in career mode are already unlicensed.
You may be right and it might be the PGA Tour saying it, but then that's silly, too. Either way, no matter who's fault it is, it's frustrating.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K21 August 6 Streaming Content Thread
Well, I think I have watched just as much golf video game content as I can for one day, so I am closing the streams and YouTube and might just give a few thoughts.
- I still have no idea why it took so long for info and real gameplay to be shared about the game.
- Presentation is, by far, my biggest positive takeaway from today. I think the menus, leaderboard overlays, commentary, and graphics packages for career mode are all top notch. Pleasantly surprised by this side of the game.
- Gameplay looks fine...the game seems more difficult in the very little bit the streamers showed of the higher difficulty levels. I only saw one or two of them play at a level higher than pro. That said, putting looks like it's a bit...twitchy or something?
- Physics look improved as well. Backspin...what a novel concept!
- Seems they changed a lot of the button mapping for no real reason. Directional pad to change clubs, pull down on the right stick to add loft instead of push up, etc. Will take some getting used to for those familiar with TGC 2019.
- Course creator also looks good, and all the objects being global instead of tied to theme is nice.
- Career mode still seems bare bones to me. Rivalries might be kind of cool, and real world sponsors are great, but I think there still seems to be more depth in the single player mode in Tiger Woods 14. And being able to play all events on real courses needs to happen for true realism.
- MyPlayer is cool, as is all the real-world clubs and gear. Plenty of customization in this game, for sure.
BOTTOM LINE: still undecided on a purchase...the marketing of this game has been weird, today was odd with videos and streams flying around like crazy. Never seen something quite like this. Most of these streamers seemed to be enamored with the game and loving every minute of it. But they got to work with 2K, and got a copy of the early build to play and showcase, so it's hard to blame them.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K21 August 6 Streaming Content Thread
Yup, that last paragraph says it all. It’s the same thing every year with the new COD. Streamers/YouTubers get to play it early, give it five star reviews. Then release day when their not bound to a contract finally give they’re real thoughts. If I already know I’ll be purchasing a title is the only time Ill preorder.
The early looks are basically useless if you're on the fence. These types of people and with being granted access will never give you truly neutral (let alone negative) impressions (if they exist) since they know they won't get access again in the future.
This content right now is mainly exciting if you were already "all-in"...
Those of us on the fence will have to wait until it actually releases and impartial opinions can get aired out all over.Comment

I don't understand why online matchmaking needs to have "the broadest appeal" anyways....

Anyway, that's ranked multiplayer where all the cheaters and pros with their spreadsheets are playing, they can have it. It's really no big deal to me. You will probably never play that either.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K21 August 6 Streaming Content Thread
Because they're not EA selling 1 million copies over 2 platform... they're barely selling 100,000 copies over 3 platforms, now it will be 4. It probably wouldn't be too much a problem on PS, but I'm sure it would be very difficult to find a game on PC or Switch it it's divided into 6 level of difficulties. This is one game needing cross-platform really bad for multiplayer because of the few copies they're selling.

I would literally flat out refuse to play online matchmaking with putt preview...
Putt Preview should be a "practice mode" feature, at most. Using it in any competitive round/situation is "cheating" and akin to playing a free shot if you ask me.
Anyways - I don't matter - I'm not the target for this game it looks like anyhow.
Q: Is there cross platform online play this time?Last edited by scagwi; 08-06-2020, 08:13 PM.Comment
