EA Sports PGA Tour Releases in Spring 2023

I’ve thought about that, EA obviously used Brooks, Bryson and DJ in marketing last year, but the PGA may not want them associated with the game since they defected.

Be cool if they were still in. I was looking forward to playing as brooks against Bryson.

It would be cool to see Brooks, Bryson and DJ winning PGA golf tournaments in PGA license games, PGA would be thrilled.

Well, now David Feherty is expected to join the LIV broadcast team.

This is awful. Truly breaking our game one step at a time.

And it looks like they could get Charles Barkley too. This would be huge, putting them mainstream with the basketball crowd. And Biden was there last week, asking the Saubis to produce more oil so the prices of gas could go lower. They laughed.

I don't think the PGA can do much about it at this point. It looks like Greg Norman has made it his mission to destroy both the PGA and DP Tour, and he has as much oil money as he wants to achieve this.

They can talk about world ranking points as much as they want, soon there will be 2 major tours and that's it. There will be LIV, where pros have guaranteed money up front, no cut, don't have to pay for traveling, the best hotels in the world, food from a world renowned chef in each events, entertainment from some of the best artists, etc... and the PGA pros who, well have to work to pay for all that, earned payday with your play, and retained their card. Soon, PGA legacies won't mean much, to the chagrin of Tiger and Nicklaus.

Here's a story from today with Ernie Els, his thoughts on how the PGA and LIV should work things out, and especially what he says about Cameron Smith and younger guys in his position, is the best thing I've seen on all of this. I agree with every word of this and I hope the PGA does too eventually:

The trip was a pip but it shows the hypocrisy of it all. If this keeps up the PGA tour might become the Kansas City Athletics to the NY Yankees. Play a few good years on the tour then hop on the Love Boat.

Curious, What do you think are the chances EA cancels this PGA game totally? With CFB coming next summer, do they even need this really?

                    What do you guys think?

Word on the street is that EA has been retaining the rights to the 3 majors that were in Rory since that game came out, and picked up Augusta at some point after that. They have invested a LOT of money into this already - millions and millions of dollars in just the licensing for the major championships (per my source, who shall remain nameless). They are in deep when it comes to this game and need it to be successful, I would assume.

I think, with Augusta and the majors, they still offer value to the customer...the majors are something that are not officially available to gamers now and will draw in casuals. Plus, it's a next-gen specific game. That's something 2K's game will not be...again, my assumption there, but all signs point to a release between now and end of calendar 2022.

If they cancel, it would be another sad and disappointing feather in EA's turd cap...especially related to golf. That can't happen if they have any interest in getting back into the sport. It would be lots and lots of money down the drain. And even a big-time outfit like EA doesn't wanna just waste resources like that.

Thanks for the input, that’s exactly what the optimist in me wants to believe.

Can’t imagine what they had to do to get Augusta back.

Still a go but if 2K release their game before new year and it bombed with less than 1M copies, available with old and new gen consoles + PC... all bet are off.

This game isn't getting cancelled. Adding pro avatars is the cherry on top. Gameplay and graphics are key. This points up the idiocy of making the pros playable or not. I don't care to play with or against an avatar that might slightly resemble a person IRL. Are they even going to replicate the strengths of each avatar other than distance they can hit each club? Would you be happy with your chosen pro choking on a five foot putt even if your inputs are solid? Rory?

Seriously this is just a golf video game real people got nothin to do with it.

This is your preference... and I couldn't care less about playable pros in the game either. But I remember when Rory came out, and there was an avalanche of complaints on twitter that Tiger was not in the game, and they wouldn't buy the game until Tiger was in it. That's why I believe 2K will have a playable Tiger in their next game.

To add to this...there were a barrage of complaints on social media when 2K21 came out from casual players who could not believe that the pros were not playable. I still see posts time to time asking when the new game comes out, and also if pros will be playable in it.

While not everyone wants playable pros, or cares about them being in the game, it's another thing that appeals to the more casual crowd. They recognize guys like Rory and Tiger, and think it's cool to be able to play as them in the game.
