on the consumable golf balls (yes, i hate it).. but you said it changes green speeds. so what if i'm playing a 1v1 online match and i have looow speed balls but my opponent has high speed balls with way low bounce... are you saying we're hitting into different green speeds that magically changes between my shot and his? if so, that's awfully bad. it makes BAD BAD consumable golf balls infinitely worse.

YES...the greens will play differently for one player than for the other, based on the golf ball used by each player. Same if you're in a society. The green speeds will differ for everyone, based on the golf ball they use.

That's nuts.

so.. my 2 cent..

1) no rankings/stats/penalties for quitting = nearly every round of versus online golf you play there will be a quit.

HATE IT

2) consumable golf balls are just very very bad.. this isnt arcade golf. well, it is now. (it was bad enough with the candy cane putters)

both of those make the game worse.. please, at least add rankings and stats so less ppl quit. even if it's the crappy system from the last version.

Respawn said in his video that the default golf ball on a default very fast green makes the green roll at 192. The "Aviator" ball changes that green speed to 167, the "Friction" ball changes the speed to 156.

I can see the different golf balls having various spin, launch, and even durability ratings but roll?

As a golfer I have never known different balls to change how a green plays as far as speed.

I haven't seen any of the videos yet but I am now curious to see how much of an effect the roll rating on the different balls truly has.

The differences are quite massive. Here's what was posted over at TGCTours:

"For example on Very Fast greens someone using the default ball (65 roll) will have 192 green speeds while someone using the legendary friction ball (5 roll) will have 156 green speeds. This is a very large advantage to the golfer with the slower green speeds."

Also...Golf ball roll stat changes the green speed! Yikes...that's the thing that's gonna mess with designers.

Both of these are baffling!? I was hoping for more options and gameplay types in online matchmaking, now they've just taken it totally out of the game? Private matches only? At least they didn't take the latter out!

There's no way a ball type should affect the green speed in a detectable way. The range off speeds they're measuring with different ball types is waaaaaaay over the top. Can we lock ball types in Society play? I don't want to play in a competitive circus like this will allow.

Just heard via CrazyCanuck's livestream that if you preordered to get the Jordan stuff, you actually only get playable Michael Jordan, but none of the Jordan apparel or gear. You have to buy that separately with VC.

Crazycanuck sort of answered my question about the difference between Quality and Performance setting on the consoles. He said he played a round in Florida on a developer XBox (he has no idea if it was a Series S or X, a One X, or possibly even an OG), and that it played much smoother on Performance. He said it was laggy and felt like 30 FPS in quality mode.

It would help a lot to know just which XBox it was on, so it's hard to put much stock in this assessment. At least we know the performance setting does make the game smoother on one variant of the XBox.

no, there is matchmaking. in fact, it seems the versus online is identical to last version, EXCEPT, there is no stat tracking (wins/losses), no rankings, nothing being tracked at all. it's now listed under 'casual' online play, not competitive. but (big but), this changes EVERYTHING.

this means every game youre winning, the losing side has no reason to stay. they lose nothing to just quit -- in fact it saves them time so it's to the losing side's benefit to quit mid-round. so expect mass quitting in matchmaking games.

whoever removed stat tracking and the bare minimum ranking system they had and couldn't extrapolate out that removing this means destroying online matchmaking is just plain stupid. i'm sorry. i dont like to call ppl that...

the silly golf balls is horrid, but you can still play if you choose to. the casual no-penalty-for-quitting matchmade games is downright idiotically dumb. and it means even if you want to play you cant if ppl keep quitting on you with no repercussions to them. just wasting your time and fun.

I can see them adding it in. It does sound like they listened to the feedback. I feel adding that would be a middle ground.
