I agree that if only a slight graphical update is possible then it probably wouldn’t be worth it, but if it’s something more substantial then I absolutely think they should. They need to start building this game for the future and new console generation rather than letting the past hold it back for the courses. They can always leave the servers up for 2k23 so people can continue to play those courses. It’s time Hb makes an upgrade from the old indie the golf club presentation it has and into something more AAA

It will be a business decision plain and simple. Money spent developing a new game almost from the ground up or tweak the thing? My bet is they tweak it.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
My bet is they're going to tweak the existing game, but *hopefully* using Unity's top engine with its advances which were obvious in the video that Beach linked. As much as the graphical enhancement the game needs, it also needs to get an efficiency AND consistency boost, especially on the XBox Series X side.
I have the PC and the XBox versions of the game, and the PC version - even though my PC measures up to a performance level of 90% of the Series X - does a much more consistent job in performance. I don't have the inexplicable tempo control problems in the PC version that I do on my XBox Series X. Granted, I run the PC version in 1440p to achieve that, but it makes for a much less frustrating experience. The loss in image quality is barely perceptible to me, but I'm sure that will vary from person to person.
I'm curious... how many of you have had the chance to play 2K23 on a PS5 and a Series X? Of those who have, do you notice the difference in the fidelity of the swing interface? I know the PS5 controller allegedly has a polling rate that is twice that of the Series X. I'd like to hear how that translates into what you experience with this game?
Keep in mind that this is being asked by a gamer who hit a 58 yard drive that never got above waist high off the first tee at Torrey Pines South in a Society tournament due to an off the scale fast tempo swing, yet not feeling anything in my stick motion that supported that result. Not a round goes by without at least a couple of tempo results that aren't consistent at all with the input.Duke Football? Hell yes it's Duke Football! --- Coach CutcliffeComment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
I'm in the minority of people who still prefer the PS4 controller over the new PS5 controller. I play the game on the PS5 but using the PS4 edition. I have played both the PS5 version and the PS4 version of the game. I know that doesn't answer your question. There are some XBox controllers that have evened the playing filed at least somewhat due to an increase in polling points. I have never hit a bad shot and blamed the game rather than my inputs. I know it is different on the Microsoft version of the game.Comment

Has anyone tuned into this discussion played the XBox One version of the game on the Series X? I'd be curious to know if you think there's a boost there? I just played a round in our Society's tournament at Scottsdale, and I had three offscale fast tempos that resulted in knee high shots during that round. There were other times when I couldn't get the golfer to take the club back until I had just the right takeaway speed. I'd have to go through six or seven trials in some cases trying to find the right backswing speed. The game quits being fun when that happens.Duke Football? Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Thanks for that feedback lpd. I find it helpful. Doesn't the PS4 version run a little smoother on the PS5, even though it may not have the Performance/Quality option the the PS5 version offers?

Yep. The PS4 version runs quicker on the PS5 and it shows the golfer/caddie animations that went missing at least for me on my PS4. The game loads faster but is still subject to the occasional black screen that lasts a couple of seconds. The PS5 version loads even faster and I don't experience any of the glitches I see when running my PS4 copy of the game whether on the PS4 or PS5.Comment

I think it's more accurate to just say that 2k23 is a last gen game. I would surprised if it ever becomes a fully current gen PS5 game.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
One of the cons in the "bad" article is that The Show lost year-to-year saves when it started releasing games on PS5/Xbox Series X/S. While not exactly the same, it does seem the discussion we've been having about PGA 2K losing the courses if it goes full next-gen seems kind of related in terms of as to why there still may be last-gen versions available. Any time new systems get introduced, it seems the loss of features/content is unavoidable, unfortunately, even if there are still games released on last-gen hardware.
Another thing that was said in the "good" article was that it may be out of publisher's hands as to what consoles the games may be released on. It sounds like MLB itself wants The Show on as many platforms as possible to get the game in the most players' hands. Perhaps the PGA Tour is of a similar mind. And, of course, the more platforms it's on, the more copies it could sell...which means more $$$.
I do really want PGA 2K to take a leap to become a true "next-gen" AAA title, but by looking at other games in the sports space, it looks like there are still a fair number of reasons (including ones totally out of the devs hands) that might keep it on old consoles.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 02-10-2024, 05:59 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

MLBTS is a victim of its own success. The game has looked great graphically since 09.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Another thing MLB The Show-related that ties into my thinking about PGA 2K is the Stadium Creator. That is a feature only available in next-gen versions of The Show.
I wonder if 2K could do something similar...like keep last-gen PGA games on the old Unity, allowing those older created courses to remain alive, but put the next-gen games on the new version of Unity and spicing things up in the designer in that version of the game with better graphics and assets. I suppose that means new courses aren't gonna be cross-gen...
IDK, just spit-balling ideas on how PGA 2K can kick things up a notch if they keep releasing last-gen versions.Last edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 02-10-2024, 09:11 PM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

If you absolutely positively think this game needs a new engine then play the recently released Cranbourne courses.Comment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
The guys who made these are two of the best, most experienced designers in the community, pushing the current engine and designer tool to it's limits. Imagine what they could do if given a better designer suite with an updated engine!
I get the idea that we don't want to lose any classic courses we enjoy, should an engine update cause that.
But I turn that idea around and say, why do we want to keep playing courses built in a game that came out 2 or 4 (or more) years ago, when we could be playing courses that are even more impressive on an updated engine?Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA TOUR 2K23 Impressions
Looking on YouTube right now
Just has that same old "The Golf Club" (but slightly evolved over time) look to me.
It's all just tired at this point .. and they really need to fix the "shadows being way too dark" issue that has been a problem since the start.Comment

A new engine isn't free and God only knows how these guys will screw up their new shiny toy. To each his own but gameplay is King and I don't need my golf game to look like Ratchet and Clank.Comment
