Well, anyways, I'm going to race Bristol tonight in the NiS. I'm scared. I expect this to be a miserable experience. I just hope for some good drama over voice chat under caution.

Have fun with that. I'll be watching and laughing.

Here's what I used in my Bristol video and I don't think that turned out badly. Might not even be the best settings, but it's what I ended up with after watching some videos on OBS yesterday. YMMV

I can't figure out how to drive this place without hitting the wall. My fastest lap is a 15.6 without hitting the wall and a 15.1 when I purposely hit the wall in the middle of both corners.

Oh, well, I can be as slow as I like; as long as (IF!) I don't crash I'll do okay. This setup is so tight.

EDIT: Well, I got a 15.4 now, but I have to run uncomfortably close to the wall on entry.

EDIT #2: 15.7 Q time. Looks like I'm going to be stuck pitting on the backstretch now.

So how many 0x did you end up with? I know watching in spectator mode you don't really see what actually happens, but you were bouncing off the wall about twice a lap from my POV.

What you were seeing was on target.

At some point during the run, once my tires got shot, I found that it was faster if I bounced it off the wall mid-corner, so I started doing that (desperation calls for desperate measures ). All race I really struggled with a lot of tightness mid-corner, so what better way to get the car to turn than bouncing softly off the wall? I ended up with 16 INC in the end. One was a 4x car contact (when William got loose in front of me and I tried to go under him, but he came back down as he was out of control, though both of us got it straightened out and didn't really get much damage), but I think all the others were 2x wall contacts (though the last one came when I basically spun out with around 5 to go, and managed to "save" it and just smash the inside wall; luckily, I only hurt the side of the car, so I did not get a meatball flag and finished the race last on the lead lap in 10th place). So, I got too many 0xs to count and 6 2xs, I believe. Interestingly, when I came in to pit finally, I only had 20 seconds of optional repairs, so even the 2xs weren't too bad, apparently.

I was surprised at how long that one green flag run went. My RF tire was down to 29/30/35 when I finally pitted after taking the wave-around. I was fortunate to get ahead of the 6 car and snatch the lucky dog position right before that final wreck (I'm fortunate I didn't get taken out in that one, for that matter).

In the end, it's another top 10, though I was quite slow. I managed to pretty much stay clean until the final few laps. Looks like my safety rating took quite a hit, but I was an A 4.99 before the race, so it doesn't really matter. Pretty strong SOF tonight; strongest in a number of weeks, I believe.

Take a drink each time I hit the wall.

I'd rather not end up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning.

Schedule is a bit light for me this week. I can either buy Dover and race in the national series or buy the modified and race at Iowa. I really enjoyed Iowa in the K&N car so I might buy another car. Dover seems a bit more (useful...) doing more cup races next year.

Anyone run the modified much? Harder/easier to drive than the stock cars?

Modifieds are good, plus you get two cars for price of one. Good participation in the SK Mods. Haven't raced the tour mods yet. The sk's have some nice setups posted for all the tracks in the forums. I need to run them more. I just hate how d license doesn't have cautions. Kills the realism for me.

Nice, didn't realize it got you into both series. That seems like a good purchase.

Edit: Never mind, completely missed this is an open series. Guess you have to do a lot more setup on your own than you do the bigger cars.

Finally got my new chair, and boy is it much easier to drive when you aren't worried about falling backwards.

The top sticky in the SK forums has 1 or more setups for each week. And they are fast enough to run upfront. I should have won at Bristol earlier this year using a setup from the forum until I got too aggressive passing a lapper and cost myself the race.

Not sure how much the tour mods share setups but assuming it's close to the same.

Edit: just looked Tour Mods also have the same sticky as first post in the forums. The mods guys are good guys who share a lot of setups. They are probably the most sharing setup wise that I've found on oval side of iRacing.

Yea, I used that Iowa setup as a base. Probably keep using it as is. I'm running 23.6's-23.9's consistently for 30+ laps on it and then the tires start to feel pretty terrible to me. With cautions I should be able to pit half way.

Definitely some hard racing. Only a single split so you wind up with some good drivers. Top 3 I couldn't touch. Several guys in there that didn't belong. I was clean for 66 laps running 8th of 13 and was going to get to 6th with some cars really slowing down in front of me. Guy lost it and I had no where to go. Bumped him for a 4x but was able to keep going and get 7th. That car is fun! Seems like a good place to start learning a bit about setups as if I could get it just a little looser out of 4, I might be able to run consistent 23.5's instead of the occasional and could run top 5.
