I have a Wii question. I know the Wii is not a HD gaming machine, but does that mean it is completely incapable of showing a game at a high definition resolution (720p/1080i)?

Gran Turismo on the old PS2 supported 1080i and a few regular Xbox games ran in 720p. It takes up processing, so many games could not do it, but can Wii output anything higher than 480p if the developer of the game strived for that?

I doubt it, the hardware isn't there to do it.

I wish Nintendo would have given HD a little more thought. I mean, if the PS2 can run a game in 1080i, the option should be there for the Wii to do it too. It does not mean they have to tell developers that everygame needs to be in HD like Microsoft did.

I think the Wii is fun, but wow, after more than a year of playing 360 games in HD, the blurry visuals of anything running in 480 is jarring.

I've read that recently people have been able to find them in their local Targets. Although I have yet to see one myself.

Just picked up a Wii, that I'll keep. I was able to get one early December thanks to a hook up, but sold it to a friend at work who had two kids that were really wanting one.

I'll be keeping this one, for myself, my wife, and our two little kids. Fixing to go hook it up in the family room.

Do you guys recommend the HDTV cables from Nintendo? If so, what do they run, $29?

I went to my local Super Target this morning for the Starbucks inside of it and there was a pretty large group back in electronics buying the Wii.

I don't know that I would want one but there are a lot that do.

Thanks, I'll pick them up this week sometime. The system is alot of fun, played about 6 games of bowling with my wife, needless to say it's alot of fun. And I lost every game but one..

Funny story, we weren't looking for a Wii this morning at all, it was the last thing on my mind. We were heading to town to get the kids a little something for Valentines day, when I saw people at Toys R Us. So I pull in, and sure enough, they're waiting for Wii's. I told my wife, lets go over to Circuit City. So I go over to the Circuit City next door, I remember candy posting that they would have them. It was about 10:30, and Circuit City was open. I go in to get the Cars Xbox game for my kids, when I overhear they did have the Wii. So I bought one, and left.

I headed next door to do the friendly thing, and tell the people wrapped up in blankets, waiting on Toys R Us to open. And they act like they didn't believe me, so I said whatever, laughed, and came home with a Wii.

5. Resident Evil 4 was a beautiful GCN title. Rogue Squadron was doing things at launch that developers still haven't done on Wii. Why do you think that is? Are studios getting sloppy on Wii?

Julian: Yes. I'm so disappointed knowing exactly what the Wii can do -- and I still think nobody knows it better than we (no pun intended) [laughs]. I really have to say, boy, am I disappointed! They all have finally figured out, five years into the hardware's life cycle, how to do at least basic shaders and a rim light, but that's what everybody does. But I still don't see enough bump and normal-mapping, if any. I still don't see enough post effects, although you would have insane fill-rates with Wii. I don't see any of that. I was digging out Rebel Strike the other day and was looking at it, and we had some people who were visiting ask, "Why isn't anybody else doing this on Wii?" And I am at a loss. I really am.

My wife picked me one up at Super Target this morning. This is a nice little system.
