I don't see how those attachments could add anything to the experience. They're just for aesthetics, and yet they're pretty fugly.

Re: Official Wii Discussion
I know this is a totally cheesy thing to do (I just wrote cheesy), but I was wondering if anyone had an experience hosting a "Wii Party" for adults. I am going to have some couples come over this weekend and introduce them to the Wii as a party theme. I am planning on using just Wii Sports and probably renting WarioWare for the party games.
I want to be a little more formal than - "Let's all just take turns playing". I was thinking about organizing some kind of couples based tournament with mini prizes for winners, but I am looking for ideas about what to start with and what modes of play I can come up with for newbies that would help them have more fun with the Wii.
Any ideas?Comment

Re: Official Wii Discussion
Well, using Wii Sports is a given. Tennis is probably the easiest way in that area. Boxing would work too, as would bowling, just do like the best of 5 games or something like that with wifeA vs. wifeB, etc. Wario Ware might be fun too, but I haven't played that game.

Any ideas? You definitely need 4 controllers and at least 2 nunchucks so you can box and stuff. See if you can find Wii Play if you don't already have it, there are some fun party games in it. If you rent WarioWare, you need to do it a couple days ahead of time so you can unlock some of the games if they require it like the Mario Party's do. Maybe you can find a save from someone here or at gamefaqs and put it on a SD card. I'd also rent a racing game (Excite Truck, Tony Hawk, SSX, etc) because those could be fun to play as well.
I guess some awards you could give could be best overall time on an event, and maybe the top winning couple or individual for the night.
I'd probably start with bowling on Wii Sports, it's the most natural and IMO the most fun on Wii Sports. Then move on to tennis and golf, then hit them with boxing to get them pumped up for some more gaming. Wii Play offers some good games that will allow you to play sitting down once people start getting tired. I think all the games on Wii Play are playable sitting down. WarioWare required standing to really do good I thought.
EDIT: Oh yeah, Rayman is a good one to rent too if you don't have it. I've enjoyed playing that one at other people's houses. I think you need to unlock stuff on that one too though to get all the good games, but I'm not sure.Last edited by aukevin; 02-28-2007, 11:55 AM.

Re: Official Wii Discussion
aukevin and Fresh - Thanks for the responses.
What I was thinking was a quick sample game from bowling, tennis, golf, and boxing to show them how the controls work first. Would play these with my wife first. Then move on to couples high score bowling, maybe have a couples high score power bowling mini game. Then do a mini tournament bracket for tennis with guys vs. girls. Could do a lowest combined score per couple for golf, then another mini tournament bracket for boxing. Wonder how long all of this will take?
Get a little door prize for each one of the sports. How would I incorporate baseball? husband vs wife matchups?
Thanks for the tips about WarioWare - I will try to pick this up tonight and unlock some of the games. I don't know alot about it, I just heard it was a cool party game. Any other thoughts on the logistics of how this could work?Comment

Re: Official Wii Discussion
I think you got a good start with the mini tourney bracket. I don't know how you'd really do baseball. IMO it's the weakest of the Wii Sports games since all you do is pitch and swing, there doesn't seem to be that much strategy in it. You could always just play straight up games in baseball where it is more of an individual tourney rather than couple's based, unless one person is all time pitcher and the other person on the team is all time batter.
Another goofy game that my wife and I play is the puzzle game in the Photo Channel. Just email your Wii some pics (one pic per email), or put them on a SD card, and load them up in the Photo Channel. You can make 6, 12, 24, and 48 piece puzzles out of the pics and it shows the time it takes you to complete it. You use the wiimote to move the pieces around. It's kind of a goofy thing to do, but my wife and I like pictures and it's a fun thing to do from time to time.

Re: Official Wii Discussion
I never knew that about the photo channel...........
I haven't used it yet because the SD card function required an update and I don't have internet access. When I put Madden in for the first time it applied an update from the disc. I have no clue if that was it or not. Probably not.Sucks not having WiFi access.

Re: Official Wii Discussion
Baseball is weird because you don't have much control over pitching, other than choosing what/where to throw the ball. I would say set up a home run derby type game.

Re: Official Wii Discussion
Got the Nyko charger today!! It's really a sweet setup. However, I'm at my in-laws now for the weekend and won't get to totally use it 'til I get back.
It comes with two NiMH battery packs that fit in the AA slots and a RUBBERIZED battery cover with a special hole that the charger contacts peek through. The charger stand plugs into a standard AC outlet and allows 2 controllers to charge with the straps on!
The battery packs had 3 bars of charge on the status menu when I put them in...and they had been sitting on my cold porch all day.
Has serious potential.....XBox Gamertag: djbeth77
