Re: Official Wii Impressions
UpdateI know these are Impressions but) Walmart by me did not get theirs in and they say it won't be until next Tuesday and start selling at 8am Wednesday.
GS/EB: The also did not get a shipment in today and expect it tomorrow. Depending on work I "might" be able to get out of work long enough to grab one tomorrow.Joshua:

Re: Official Wii Impressions
There's no gimmick to speak of. I played Wii sports for a while last night and it's still just as fun as the first time. And i'll never be able to play Zelda without a wiimote again.Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
I think most stores have them and are waiting till at least the first of the month to sell them to help boost their December sells.Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
Is the internet connection required with the Wii?
The reason I ask is...
We don't have wireless (not planning to get it anytime soon either), and currently it's way too far away and impractical to do a direct line from the hub to the TV room (opposite ends of the house, and we have little ones that would most certainly destroy the connection before very long).
Also, how is the backwards compatability going with the Wii - concerning GameCube components such as: games, controllers, memory cards, etc?Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
Great on the cat 5 line ability coming out.At least I could plug it in at times to download things.
I haven't noticed much of anyone talking about the backwards compatability in this thread... for games and other things.
Can some of you that have the Wii and have gamecube games, and equipment comment as to your experiences with the Wii's b-c?Comment

Re: Official Wii Impressions
It took me a little while to get everything set up last night, so I didn't finish up playing until late, around 1:30AM or so. After I created a Mii, I went straight for the Virtual Console. Downloaded Mario Bros. and Sonic. Its hard to believe Mario is 20 years old and Sonic is 10-15 years old. Unbelievable. Something should be said for how simple those games are, yet years later they still make you smile while you're playing.
Wii Sports is a blast. Boxing is a blast despite the somewhat poor response of the nunchuck controller, but thats a software issue and has nothing to do with the actual controller since it works fine with Zelda. The potential for a fleshed out boxing title, whether its Fight Night or Ready 2 Rumble, looks great and I am highly anticipating the first official boxing title for the Wii. Batting is terrific. I need to teach myself to hold back a bit so I don't throw my arms out from swinging so damn hard. Tennis is awesome, fun as hell. Bowling is great too, I just need to learn how to roll the ball straight instead of curving one way or another. I know full well that all these massive movements aren't at all necessary, but its more natural and more fun with them.
Zelda is Zelda. I hate to admit this, but Twilight Princess is my first Zelda game and its great. First off, the game is beautiful. One of the best looking games I've played since when I first popped in Splinter Cell about 3 years ago. The controls are so natural and fluid that I can't imagine playing the game by just using simple button mashing. I worked my way up to the first wolf form part before forcing myself to quit. The reading could get tedious and I think with the right voice actors Zelda could make the transition from text bubbles to audio.
So far, so good. It was definitely worth the wait.
