    Re: Xbox One

Once Phil Spencer established the path forward after the launch debacle, I expected Microsoft to have a more powerful console on the market at all times. By going generationless, they can simply have new versions ready to go for whenever Sony drops an upgrade.

Sony has one weakness, and an arms race will exploit it. Microsoft has a was chest, and they will force Sony spend as much as possible to keep up. The Xbox is research tool and longterm project for Microsoft. Playstation is Sony's bread and butter at this point. Microsoft will take losses to win the long game.

Power dont matter when it comes to games Sony's brand is much more powerful. The fact that ps3 end up slightly out sold xbox 360 after all the issues it had proves that Sony will never be out sold by Micorsoft ever. They can have the power. Sony game brand is much more popular and they have much more popular excusives. Power will not do any thing.

Via Brad Sams who's very credible, it looks like another new console is coming later in the year in the form of an Xbox One Slim E model (similar to Xbox 360 E model) which will be cheaper and smaller than the current Slim model. Microsoft's E3 2019 showcase is getting more and more interesting by the day.

Gamepass is a console driven subscription. The notion that they are going to stop making consoles because of it is silly.

I agree, but they are talking about using Gamepass in conjunction with game streaming to add it to the Switch, and maybe smart TVs.

How we play games is evolving. Since I've been gaming since my dad brought home a Pong machine in the 70's, change is not all that big of a deal. That's the norm.

Big picture, humans like to do things like play games in their spare time. While the form and delivery may continue to change, as long as people want to play games, someone will make games for us to play.

I used to have ride my bike and spend quarters to play games. Heck, I used to have to stand to play games.

My first multiplayer league was in 1986. Each week, 10-12 of use met up at someone's house and played Stat-O-Matic for hours.

I used to mail a floppy disk to play in an APBA baseball league.

I want from console to PC, and then back to consoles for games.

Multiplayer gaming used to mean on the couch, with beers and friends. Then it became online. Now, I have friends over to play board games (for awhile my board game friends got addicted to Rock Band).

I was an adamant single console owner, until the Gamecube and Xbox. This gen I added a PS4 to my XB1 and Switch. I am 90% going to be a single console guy again.

We now have controllers with motion, microphones for voice controls, and the use of smartphones and tablets to add on to the experience.

Now we are looking at possible a streaming future for games? Maybe a future in which games aren't tied down to one platform, but can be picked up and played wherever?

But the same can be said for all media consumption. From a TV with six channels and no remote control, to playing Live TV on various devices anywhere you can get a signal. I only read on a tablet now, and my wife only reads with her ears (audiobooks). From having to use vinyl and tapes to listen to music, which made sharing and being mobile a pain, to now using Spotify or Apple Music to play anything, anywhere, at any time, if you can get a signal.

All I can guarantee you is, if you are someone that gets tied down to the present, you will spend your entire life lamenting change. If you learn to roll with those changes, you will probably find that overall, technology has gotten better and made media consumption almost too easy and prolific.

Like the VR thing. It's neat, but it is in no way a viable platform for gaming on a large enough scale to be profitable. But you gotta believe it's time is coming. When I said we may ditch TVs, part of that might be VR. I'm less interested in VR gaming than I am in VR movie and TV watching. But I fully expect VR gaming to be the prime way we all play video games at some point. I'm just not buying until the tech delivers more than it does now. but I'm thankful for the folks that are driving that platform now.

I dont think xbox is flopping or any thing but I just dont see how they can compete with Sony. People talk about all the mistakes that Micorsoft made this gen but Sony was like Just as bad last gen and they slightly out sold Micorsoft where this gen Micorsoft is being out sold by more than 2-1. More completion is always good and I just dont see xbox sticking around because it seems like they are trying to become more like a services like Netflix or something where you can just play there games on ever thing and if you can than it makes xbox less worth getting. I dont care for xbox but I am still interested to see what they do and how there next xbox will do and if they will have a major game drought like this gen or if things will change. I am always open to getting a xbox if they impress me but in there like 18 years they have not impressed me. I grew up with Nintendo got into sony later and still love the two. If next gen Microsoft has a lot of good things I am open to adding xbox and being a 3 system guy but up to the point I just dont see a reason to. Just being able to play multiplatform games that look a little bit better is just not enough for me. There is always like new tech comming out or that you can wait for. Ps5 and next xbox are most likely going to be next year and than a few years later we may get a ps5 pro and a mid gen upgrade for xbox as while. I am not going to spend like 400-500 ever like 3 years or so just so I can play the same games but with slightly better graphics.

You seem to be forgetting that multiple consoles can exist at the same time and be successful.

I didn't say they cant we have 3 major company's that have been making consoles and now we have like google with there streaming thing will see how that does I am not sure if people are ready for streaming or not. I didn't say xbox one has flopped. It may not be doing ps4 numbers and it may not be sold at the rate that Switch is being sold but its still sold like what 40-45 million? That is far from being a flop or unsuccessful. Its not like its doing wii u like sales numbers that was a flop. Heck last gen we had 2 systems that sold like 85-88 million and 1 that sold like 105 million.

Xbox isn’t dying because they are expanding their brand. It’s not going to happen no matter how many times you say it.

Expanding is not a bad thing its just the seem to be more going around the Netflix like route and also I think they could go like sega route meaning making games but no consoles any more.

Wait, so the console that people say doesn't have games would go the Sega route?
