Personally I see it as similar to moving forward with HD on consoles. At some point you have to move forward without the ideal experience for the absolute lowest common denominator in order to move forward. Those that choose to buy the product anyways are required to make an informed decision as a consumer.

Re: Xbox One
Why lop off that segment of the market, though? You want to increase your market not take away from it. I don't have the numbers, but I would say there's quite a few people who game without internet connections. Haven't we been doing that for 30 years?
Obviously MS didn't explain everything yesterday, but they could have done a lot better job of setting themselves up by demonstrating exactly how beneficial these changes will be for the consumer. Cloud computing/gaming has me excited personally, but if its not utilized then I see everything else on the system as a waste for me personally. Even then that's probably not in the first year of launch anyway.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: Xbox One
I'm gonna go ahead and throw this out there:
I want no part of the console that has a device that's constantly recording me and can do the biometrics facial recognition and everything else that this technology can do.
This thing reeks of big brother in my opinion
I don't want to sound conspiratorial However it's only a matter of time before this data that's either stored on your hard drive or on Microsoft servers
Is collected by whatnever agency that has no business using it.
Obviously if your criminal and it's fine if they're going to use that but that's not always how it is. Look no further than Google and all the information they passed illegally to different agencies
Without any consent from anybody that information was taken from.
I just have a hard time believing that this is necessary for me to be able to
Play Madden. Check that, there is NO reason this I need to submit to this
To do ANY kind of gaming. Eventually I can see this being used to track people
Who like violent games etc.
I know I sound like a nut, but look no further than the Drone war...it started in warzones and now drones are flying over the US (which mind you I said would happen years before) and there was a fillibuster to try to get answers as to the legality of an American being drone striked on US soil.
So what do you folks think?

Re: Xbox One
I'm thinking it's because they make more money off of people who connect their systems and/or they think that Internet access is going to spread to more homes in the future. Not many people had HDTV's when they made that the focus of their games (remember the outcry over not being able to read the text on a sdtv when playing Dead Rising) and barely anyone had broadband when they made that a requirement for Live so this seems to be a trend, although they are being more punitive than they were in the past.

I have to post this here. It's a GIF and it does contain swearing; it's the ending scene of Se7en as an XBOX ONE spoof.

I will buy both at some point but I think MS wasted an opportunity to create a buzz when they were in the spotlight.Comment

I could check in once a day but I'd rather not be treated like a criminal having to check in with a parole officer. That's not how you treat customers and if it is you shouldn't have any.

That brings up a good point too,I didn't even think of the chairity type stuff. Like donating the games to sick kids. "Sorry Johnny,we can only afford to have you live one more week or the fee to activate Madden 14 on this console."Comment

I personally still do not have an HDTV. My gaming experience has still been phenomenal with one exception: NBA 2K11's score overlay was incredibly small and difficult to read on a standard TV. By the following year, the overlay was adjusted and all was once again right with the world. Games like Red Dead Redemption don't look quite as pretty on my standard as they do on my family's flat screen, but I can still play and enjoy them. Moreover, since I do not play online, I can enjoy playing RDR in any household at any time (whether I'm housesitting, traveling, internet slow or spotty, etc.) and whether I have a connection or not plays no role in my experience. It'd be a bummer for that to change.Comment

So that leaves room for 5/6 new IPs depending if Rare is doing something new or bringing back Banjo, Perfect Dark, or KI.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: Xbox One
As for the ridiculous internet connection debate, I will use an example that really concerns me. A couple years back there was a huge flood in my city. It wiped out almost 1/3 of the city. It was mainly on one side of the town because of how the hills are. When that happened, almost 1/2 of the town lost internet connection for 1-2 months. By making people be online to play a single player game, you're setting yourself up for disaster.
I know I won't buy this DVR. I play my 360 more than my PS3 right now as well, but I play the better system. I'm not going to try convince myself that a DVR with less power is the better system. Indie game restrictions, used game fees, always on internet, paid online subscription (better online I know), less exclusives, more restrictions...compared to a question in how good the online service will be on the PS4? Come on...Comment

Re: Xbox One
We had this discussion earlier in the thread but if you are truly concerned about your privacy, then make sure that you get rid of your smart phone or other new electronic devices. I don't know if you paid attention to the coverage of the search for the Boston bombers but the police found their location by using the GPS in the phone of a guy they kidnapped so if you're truly worried think that consumer electronics are used to spy on you, then you better get rid of your other devices ASAP.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Either way, I'm not a conspiracy guy or fear-of-government-getting-my-information person, but I admit the prospect of a camera always being latently on and reading me is a little creepier than a phone trail. But again, if it's more the laptop computer webcam route, that's a little better, though I'm still not necessarily a fan.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I do not understand the Kinect Camera thing. Will it be off just like my built-in computer webcam until I click a button ordering it to turn on? Or is it in some kind of sleep mode where it's still potentially active and measuring things about me even if I'm playing a non-Kinect driven game?
