Re: Xbox One
What a ridiculous statement. Do you have any real world concept or completely oblivious to the fact that most areas in the United States are not saturated with multiple companies that can provide broadband experiences. So do you really think there's much consumers can do when there's one choice in a smaller area that isn't the most technical savvy to begin with? Most people are oblivious to the fact they're getting a quarter of what is advertised because it's not that apparent on the rigorous bandwidth requirements needed by facebook, zuma, or farmville.
Totally clueless to the world, it's frightening that the thought process is that the United States has a remarkable broadband internet structure and service providers where access to blazing fast speeds and 100% service is a guaranteed so that Xbox connection shouldn't be a big deal.
It's not a big deal to me, I don't take to much of an issue with it personally if I were into the Xbox, but it's childish , the notion that just because MY internet is fine or that I don't care means everyone else has the same internet and shouldn't worry about connecting to play a single player game.
I get the gripe outside of not being able to connect and the principle because consider the simpleness of the alternative choice.. To Play single player games, no online connectivity is required : PROBLEM SOLVED. People with great connections wouldn't complain that other's didn't have to connect to play a single player game, people with no connection or horrible connection wouldn't complain that they don't have to be connected to play a single player game. Pretty simple, but what's been done is the segmented population that is gamers and the subset of XBOX 360 is now SEGMENTED yet again to a great deal by this decision that is quite frankly a stupid decision - and people have every right to be a little perturbed and turned off by the notion they have to connect at least once to an internet connection somewhere to play a single player game.
So while being simple and saying it doesn't affect me so why people care. The irony could be that it can very well affect you, if not directly (should there be issues with games needing a connection ala sim city that is no fault of your own) then maybe indirectly (the reduction of LIVE subscribers and online community due to simple issues taken with the connection requirement from the get go or lack of enthusiasm for the TV aspects)
MS did the same thing with the first xbox and making it broadband only. If you didn't have a broadband account you couldn't play Xbox multiplayer.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Xbox One
My point is not to poke fun at internet connections or claim all have as I do. The point is very few are going to keep their console disconnected from the internet. MS knows that ans so does Sony. Their target audience is the masses of people that have broadband internet.

Re: Xbox One
Well you can ask all you like, I'll post anything I damned well please my friend.
And it's insulting to me that you have such a personal vendetta that you deem it worthy to try to insult me by criticizing a very valid point, that a large number, about 150k, of our troops will not be able to play Xbox with the online-required feature.
As I said before, one doesn't have to serve in the military to be an advocate for them for a video game. The fact that you think it's a great topic to pick to have a beef with me shows just how lacking you are as to perception. The vast majority of people on here are going to agree with the idea that not only is the online-required option wrong but that about 150,000 of our troops not being able to play Xbox because of it is even more wrong.
Maybe next time save your anger and mock outrage to pick a fight with me over something that makes a little more sense than being opposed to advocating something for the military. The fact that you were in the military should mean you are even more of an advocate for our troops, not less of one. And the fact that you attempt to act is if that service negates any civilians opinion on video games for soldiers is quite laughable and makes absolutely no sense.
So let's get three things straight....are your REALLY saying you're in favor of this online-requirement?
Or are you just saying 150,000 soldiers is not that big of a deal if they can't play Xbox?
Or are you just saying that no one who has ever served in the military can ever make a comment in regards to the military and how they play video games?
The first question is debatable, if so state your opinions why more than just "you don't know what you're talking about" which is no argument at all in favor of the online requirement.
The second question is disgraceful if you in fact have served because there's no patriotic American who should view a "mere" 150,000 or so troops as undeserving as such a basic necessity as playing a video game, let alone one who has actually, as you claim, served in the military and experienced the life.
The third question is just a real distraction from the first two. And an apparent attempt to try to insult me from your comment regarding dreads. We aren't discussing how realistic video game war deaths are or something that would give a military combat veteran some special insight that a civilian couldn't have. We're talking about whether or not our troops can have access to Xbox games due to having internet or not is a valid reason to be against an online-once-per-day requirement. That's an opinion that anyone can have, regardless of service.
Oh and one last thing, being in the military is a great service to this country but being in the military doesn't make you an expert on anything related to it. Nor does it keep you from being obnoxious on video game forums apparently.
Its simple business, nothing more...nothing less. There most certainly is not 150k soliders that have no internet to start with. While I am no expert for 100% of the military by any stretch of the imagination, I do know that the number of soldiers that do not have internet access would be significantly lower.
Companies are out to make a profit and thats the bottom line. The principle of the unit needing to be online is an effort to accumulate more wealth. Its simple business economics. No video game company can make a console that is going to be the best of all worlds for everyone involved.
The bottom line for business is profit, and the bottom line for online connectivity is built to generate more profit. Maybe I dont like it, but the entire market is headed that direction so everyone may as well embrace it.
Both companies are out to hit over 100m+ users, and if some small fraction of a group gets left out, then it is what it is.
As to the question about commenting about gaming and the military, we did in fact have Xbox, PS2, and the N64 overseas and when we were back in the rear they got a lot of attention. Video games is one of the few things that people used to escape the reality of what we were dealing with. I may not agree with everything every company does, but I certainly understand it from a business aspect since thats the industry I work in now.Comment

Re: Xbox One
I was there buddy, you were not.
You can not speak to what we deal with there, nor what we have or dont have, so I was asking that you not speak about something you know nothing about.
While some of us were overseas getting shot, you were sitting here complaining about dreads in Madden.
Feel free to remove any talk about the military of which you know nothing about, nor would ever be man enough to understand.
If you two can't play nice I have the infraction warmed up for you both.Moderator
