    Re: Xbox One

    Front page of WSJ:

Microsoft’s Xbox One: Owning Your Video Games Is So 1994

No longer will video games be like books or old-fashioned music CDs, self-contained content that works anywhere, anytime, and can be resold or lent to any of your friends. Xbox One games are part physical disc, part online service, and tightly controlled both my Microsoft and the game publisher.
“This new generation of games,” as Microsoft describes it, is worth putting into context: It’s the final stage in the transition of video games from goods, sold as a physical object that you own, to services, delivered online in tandem with a disc you buy in a store.

You own an object, but you merely access a service.

    Front page of Forbes:

The Xbox One Might Let Sony's PS4 Win By Default

All of this leaves Sony in a very unique position. If they simply stick with the tenets of the video game industry that have been the norm for years, offline play, used game selling/buying and physical game ownership, they could see a large amount of Microsoft loyalists flood to the PS4 simply because they want a console that can play games easily and without restriction. They’d only have to sacrifice a handful of exclusives to do so. Sony could even promote digital distribution for those who like the convenience, so long as they kept physical discs as an option when it comes to game ownership.
At this point, the Xbox One seems to be fumbling so badly from a PR perspective, it almost seems like Sony would be remiss to not seize on the opportunity. Microsoft’s steps forward appear as backward movement to many, and Sony could win by simply standing still and watching its biggest competitor sink under its own weight.
    ...

Eurogamer: Microsoft kills game ownership and expects us to smile

There is also a promise that Microsoft Studios games will all allow you to trade them in and give them away for free, bringing a whole new emphasis to the expression, "It's the least we could do!"
The suggestion that these changes to game ownership have been taken to combat piracy or limit the damage that used game sales do to the primary market do not stand up to much scrutiny - at our most charitable, we can say that the data is merely inconclusive, but analysis of other industries that have dealt with these issues for much longer is pretty clear that the overall benefits at least balance out the risks of allowing piracy and used markets to flourish.
    Go Noles!!! >>----->

I think its hilarious that this whole thing is to combat used sales and Piracy like this is the reason why they arent selling their games. Wont this no resell thing force gamers into being MORE stingy with their money since they cant get rid of ****ty games?
I know we have received lots of bad news, but I am still excited about the possibilities.

Microsoft's aces in the hole for a lot of people are the controllers and Live service. I think you would be surprised how much these two aspects create loyalty for them.

So without having the final console in my hands, I know she has lovely breasts and incredible legs. I am just hoping she isn't a butterface.

If you're comparing game systems to women, XBone would be like the hot blonde but now she's in her 60s. You can sometimes catch beauty, but mostly it's just old saggy tributes to what once was.

I'm sorry if this has been answered, but I cannot find a concrete answer.

Will you be able to rent games? I mean from places like Family Video, Blockbuster, and Gamefly? If not, that's insane. I rent games all the time.

I don't think I've ever seen a concrete answer on this.

I want to say it will work, but that may just be the optimist in me - I don't know how it would, knowing what we do know about the restrictions.

Good Lord, that Eurogamer article is so dead-on it is frightening. Wake up, people! What MS (and possibly Sony) is doing to consumers as far as ownership of the products you buy is ridiculous and about as anti-consumer as it gets. This is not right and I can guarantee you I will be buying far less games because of this.

I get what your saying Quint, But the reality is you don't own the product, you are buying the license. This is the part that I think people don't understand or are confused about.

If this is true, this would put Gamefly out of business. That's insane. Unless Sony will allow rentals.

I would be very angry if I could no longer drive down the street to Family Video and rent a game. That's BS, and no one should defend that.

But see we dont own anything. We only buy the right to play the game; the license to play the game. So we should be grateful to even have the opportunity to give up any benefit we have had for the past 30 years of gaming history. Because we dont own anything see?

The day everything moves to digital-only format is the day I'm moving to the woods.

But there are already services for movies and music and those are fine. You know you're only "accessing" them through the service and you have access to a massive library.

What MS is doing is a combination of both and its purely for their benefit.
