    Re: Xbox One

Come on man, I don't go reading blogs by Joe Blow and claim his thoughts on it are gospel. I'm more anal than the average person (only uncompressed rips for me (some at 45GB) on my server) and I know my AV well. Google it yourself anyway if you want to see testing conditions. This isn't new, the same argument was around when comparing 720p to 1080p and viewing distances/sizes.

All I'm saying is that it doesn't matter to me as, scientifically and supposedly, the eye can't physically see the difference dependent on the situation (distance/screen size) and that if Scorpio will benefit 4k only, then I'll probably pass. We are in the Xbox One thread so basically I'm passing on Scorpio unless I can find a 100+ inch 4k screen for my viewing distance (4k projector most likely).

I have no idea what your viewing distance is or what your eyesight is like but if it works for you and you can see it, all the more power to you.

I'm not that picky, but the usual measurement of effective whatever for the HD sets has always been more or less garbage IMO. You can tell the difference from damn near across the store between 1080p and 4k sets in a department store.

Whether we have a game console output a game that can claim that difference in fidelity remains to be seen.

        Re: Xbox One

Sorry man but that's definitely the placebo effect. You don't need to know much to know that by the time you hit a certain distance, it all looks the same, especially from across a big area like that. Especially at department stores who intentionally have 4k displays looking superior for purchase.

There are really only two things to consider. The source content and distance. Further away, the bigger screen you need to notice it. Anything else is placebo but even if placebo, it's not a problem if the user is happy. It's all that matters really so if anyone wants to claim it, they have every right to just like I'm claiming against it.

Anyway, last comment on it as it's kind of getting off topic for the thread.

You roughly need to be 5.5ft or closer to appreciate 4k on an 85 inch screen according to the charts. As I don't sit that close and have a large screen, 1080p is more than enough for me. I've compared the two just to see and I really need to be up close to see any visual difference. For PC gaming though, I might be interested in 4k being as I sit a lot closer to a monitor but even now, I'm roughly 3ft away and although I'd start to notice it on a smaller screen, I'd probably need a 40+ inch screen to really notice it. Probably 1440p for me only when the time comes.

So if the Scorpio really only benefits 4k sets, then I doubt I'll get one unless 4k screens are more affordable and 100 inches or more given how far I sit back from my current set (12-13ft at 110 inches).

Of course though, if you have cash to burn, there's no real reason to not go 4k I guess even if there is no difference to 1080p. Placebo effect may kick in for some but there might also be a few that have super amazing vision too which make it noticeable.

lol that is not true at all. My vision is ok over all have classes for distance close vision is like perfect though and when I watch TV I have my classes on because it makes details better and I can clearly see the difference in 4k. I don't think the best buy I have even been in has TV's above like 65 inch TV's and I can see the difference even from like 20 feet away from the TV. In fact I would say I see a bigger difference between 4k and 1080p then I can from 720 to 1080. When it comes to bluray I have always found bluray to be overrated yet I find 4k to look incredible.

I personally just want a 65" 4k as my next tv (and probably last for a while)....just waiting as prices keep coming down....

That's the perfect size for my living room, would be awesome! Just can't drop 1k right now. Probably a wish for a while since i have twins on the way lol

We have a 2 year old now, so we're on hold for a bit after the twins and then we'll see.

I am changing jobs with a good jump in pay, so we'll see if maybe for Christmas or something I can swing a new TV....just not a high priority though.

I have a great wall mount too that can handle it, my current tv is a 47" 1080p that'll move to the bedroom....that 37" Vizio will go to guest/office, and maybe figure out a kid room tv, not sure.
