That looks like the chair in my office. If it is the same one, it's comfy and I've almost dozed off at times on slow days.

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Had a decent gaming PC last year but sold it since I wasnt using it at the time and needed some funds. Am thinking about building another gaming rig but this time going with AMD instead of Intel. Was thinking about forgoing the Xbox one series altogether and just going with a gaming PC.
Here is what I had parted out:

Looks solid. Power Supply is probably overkill for those components, but that's not a bad thing (just in case you're looking for a place to cut some costs).Had a decent gaming PC last year but sold it since I wasnt using it at the time and needed some funds. I built a new one recently with the same 3800x CPU. It's hard to fault it at that price, but I haven't been overly impressed with it's performance (previously had an i7 8700).Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Ah don't say that! My 2080ti was seemingly bottlenecked at times by the i7 7700 (playing on a 4k 144hz monitor with HDR) where cpu was at 100% usage and gpu only 50-60%.Looks solid. Was between 3700x/3800x or i7 9700k. I know the 9700k usually handles games better than Ryzen 7 cards but benchmarks show them both (when paired with 2080ti) somewhat close, and still a lot better than my 7700. I went with the 3800x to give AMD a try (all previous builds were intel) since it was on sale and the additional threads can come in handy when doing data processing in apps I build. Since your 8700 has more cores and boost speed than my 7700 I'll see a bigger increase than you did - but is that the only reason you weren't impressed? Just that it was a minimal upgrade?
Though good news is I got a 2080 super to pair with my 7700 to go in the basement so I can keep my Oculus set up (original rift with 3 sensors.) I never use it in the office because I don't really have room to keep the sensors connected at all times and it is a hassle to drag them all out, connect, and do the setup every time. Now in the other room I can mount them and it will just be plug and play with the headset.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Yeah I went with the AMD based on benchmarks and price, and I'm being very picky to be honest (but I spent a lot of money on this rig). I just have noticed a slight downturn in performance from my old build (8700 CPU, 1080gtx, 8gb ddr4 3200 ram, playing on 2 monitors 144hz) to my new one (3800x, 2080 super, 32gb ram and similar monitor setup). Certain games take a few seconds longer to get through screens, which is pretty minor l, but its disappointing when you spend that much on a rig.Ah don't say that! Also to be fair I think there was a pretty big performance boost when Intel went to the 8th gen chips. So maybe you wont notice what I did since you are going from 7th gen to the 3800

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Well I am picking the parts up tonight - was planning on swapping parts around in my current tonight and putting together the rest for the basement PC tomorrow...maybe I'll do it in the reverse order so then if I have a change of heart overnight I'll swap for the 9700k. If only I wasn't craving to do this now, I could try to wait until 10th gen releases...but I hate spending life waiting. Use what is available now, upgrade again later if I really feel the need.Yeah I went with the AMD based on benchmarks and price, and I'm being very picky to be honest (but I spent a lot of money on this rig). lol though now that I think about it reverse order is simply taking my current PC, swapping the 2080ti for the 2080 super and moving it to the basement (and an OS migration from SSD to an SSHD I have) so I won't really have a whole lot to do other than wait for the migration to complete.Last edited by joet6683; 01-03-2020, 04:32 PM.Comment

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
My system is still going good.
Only thing I'm doing is upping RAM to 32. Probably next year at this time I'll upgrade a bit.
Won't need new monitors or case etc.. so it will be a bit cheaper next go round.
I mainly play sims (City build, racing/driving, Flying) and strategy games and about 30% VR.Last edited by Skyboxer; 01-04-2020, 12:24 PM.Joshua:

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
Spent the last couple days relaxing and working in game room.
Finally decided to OC my GPU mainly as .. well nothing much to do as I'm off work till Thursday lol
Enabled my integrated Graphics on MSI MB so I could have that ran to tv when I play my Wii,GC and N64 emulation.
Now I dont have to keep disconnecting an input when I use VR. (Triple screen plus VR on Main GPU)
After wife and I cleaned out attic a few weeks ago I then went through game room closet and was able to move stuff I'm keeping into attic. Now I have a presentable closet lol
Re arranged room and now have my floor pretty clear for vr and just really less clutter.
Last step is a dedicated small desk for my wheel and flight controls when I use those as I'm pretty much all VR with racing and flight sims.
.Main desk for reg gaming.
Extra Ram should be here tomorrow.
Spoiler

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread
All good choices for that price point. You should be able to run all but the most demanding games at the highest graphics settings right now.A friend of mine recommended this build for my first gaming computer. What are your guys thoughts. Any recommendations?

You may want to add a second and larger storage drive. Keep Windows and your more demanding games on the SSD and everything else on a large HDD (assuming you don't want to spend on another SSD). 500gb just doesn't go very far. That can be added on later though if you don't want to spend the money right now.Comment

Very good. Just below best of the best. I would ditch the HDD and just put in a 1tb SSD though. How is this for a gaming PC? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/alienwa...?skuId=6373818Comment
