Storage is decent. Definitely recommend upgrading to all SSD at some point, but 512 is fine for most people as long as you keep older games and files on the HDD.

A little concerned with the cooling unit. All I can gather is that it is fan cooled (I think) which is honestly fine in most instances, but personally I would want liquid cooling at this price point to better protect my components.

All that is to say it's a solid system and Alienware are known (at least they used to be) for making quality products. You are paying a premium for the name though. I don't think that you will be disappointed with the performance, but also know that you could probably get some of those 'upgrade' items on the front end with no additional cost if you look around.

As long as you're comfortable self building this looks like a great system and worth the extra $200. You'll see a noticeable difference in being able to keep all of your games on the SSD and the higher ram speed, and personally I have more peace of mind with liquid cooling. This probably exactly what I would build at $2k.

Since I'm sitting in a good place financially right now, I won't lie, using part of the stimulus check to upgrade my 1070 ti to a Super 2080 is incredibly tempting.

What do you guys recommend? Playing at 1440, 165hz. Red Dead is still the game I struggle the most with. Most other games I run near maxed out because I've only been playing Farm Simulator, Rocker League, and Mount and Blade Bannerlord. I will probably be getting back into The Division 2 soon, and the 1070ti does struggle at times with it.

I know it's tempting, I've had the itch for a while now too to upgrade my 1080ti (unnecessarily) especially with Minecraft RTX out (which looks amazing... But I don't play Minecraft...) But am still holding out for the 3000 series cards.

I am trying to wait till then as well, but I also feel like when those cards come out that they'll be priced high enough i won't feel like grabbing one, especially if the 2000s see their price fall.

3000 series cards probably won't release until August or September. AMD cards should release beginning of the summer, like June or July. I just hope AMD release high end cards this year to force Nvidia to lower the price of their high end cards.

Speaking of AMD, they announced their Ryzen 3 CPUs

                  AMD Ryzen™ 3 3300X - $120

                  # of CPU Cores 4
                  # of Threads 8
Max Boost Clock Up to 4.3GHz
                  Base Clock 3.8GHz
                  Thermal Solution (PIB) Wraith Stealth
                  Default TDP / TDP 65W

                  AMD Ryzen™ 3 3100 - $99

                  # of CPU Cores 4
                  # of Threads 8
Max Boost Clock Up to 3.9GHz
                  Base Clock 3.6GHz
                  Thermal Solution (PIB) Wraith Stealth
                  Default TDP / TDP 65W

Both coming next month in May. Most likely near the end of May. They both support PCIE Gen 4.0

I'm just looking for a gaming PC that can compete against a Series X, since I'm not gonna buy one of those.

In the same boat myself. Trying to hold off but I get super impatient lol. I just recently upgraded basically everything. CPU, Motherboard, Ram, and a new case. Power supply will last me forever. Have plenty of HDD space. OS is on a SSD and I got a M.2 drive as well. Plus a handful of external drives. All that's left of my old build is my 1080ti. Now that's not slumming it by any means. But with what I have now it is actually my weakest link lol. Will most likely hold off as some of you guys have said. I have a One X and have no intrest in the Series X. Would rather put that money toward a new GPU.

I just upgraded to a Ryzen 3800x, going to run the 1070ti for a little while longer until the 3000s series drop.

Seems like the i7's are still going strong.

Im looking over processors so tell me.

The 3900X vs the i7.. both are good for gaming in a sense but whats the biggest difference really?

Can i not perform multiple tasks with an i7 without is choking up on me?

Re: OS Steam and Computer Gaming Thread

3900x have 12 cores, the highest I7 is 8 cores. Ryzen is cheaper then Intel CPUs. Ryzen do multi tasking way better then Intel CPUs. So it really comes down to how valuable is your time and money.

                            12 core 3900X is $434
                            12 core I9 10920X is $1,168

So basically if you want the same amount of cores you can get on AMD for Intel, you going to pay wayyyyy more.

                            16 core 3950X is $738
16 core on Intel is $1,700

You cant go wrong with either cpu.

Despite fewer cores an i7 9700 will outperform a ryzen 9 3900 in gaming and most every day tasks. As a workstation the 3900 will be superior, but the i7 should be more than adequate for most workstations.

Both are great processors for both gaming and as workstations. I lean toward Intel based on across the board performance, but there really isnt a wrong choice.
