One tomorrow, and one next Tuesday, I believe.

Sorry if I got that wrong.

One tomorrow should be at NOON PST

That is the one we are hoping to get Slim/NEO details

            JareBear got it right.

PlayStation Meeting is tomorrow at 3:00PM EST / 12:00PM PST and is where PlayStation NEO and SLIM get officially revealed and detailed.

Sony's pre-TGS press conference is next Tuesday September 13, 2016 at 3:00AM EST.

Two different conferences for two different reasons but the more the better.

If you were being forced to upgrade, I might get it, but you're not. The Neo isn't replacing the current PS4, the Slim is (which happens every generation of consoles). If you don't care about 4K or the potential boost in FPS as you said, no one is making you change. Sony has already made it very clear that all games will be released on both models of PS4. If you're happy with your current system, then stick with it.

The Neo will be an option for those who want it. Options are a good thing.
              Can't respond to everyone but...

The change in price of 4K wasn't due to a shift in technology...it's due to supply & demand like everything else in the market.

Gamers were forced to upgrade their TVs to play next gen games because they couldn't use standard definition even though you could still watch broadcast TV in SD.

So the 4K argument is irrelevant because you still cannot get broadcast signals in 4K yet. Netflix and Amazon (to whoever mentioned it) are not industry standards so again..this is for a select crowd. Which is my concern for gamers as a whole somehow eventually being forced to buy into something to get access which should be for everyone. I think that's where we're headed with cloud gaming (software purchases, saves, upgrades, etc).

The cell phone analogy is the best answer I've heard here and makes the most sense to me.

And lastly when people question why there's a new product..it's not a complaint. It's a question..lol. So much for healthy discussion instead of right vs. wrong.

Thinking about getting PlayStation Now as there are a bunch of older games on there that I never got around to playing before for one reason or another. I have really good internet connection so that's not an issue, just looking for a general consensus from anyone that might have this service now and how they like it so far, some pluses and minuses if possible too, thanks

How did supply and demand cause the price of 4K panels to go down? Just curious how that makes sense without a shift in tech. You think the supply was too much, so they had to slash the price or something? I don't get that at all.

I don't understand what any of this has to do with broadcast TV. I don't watch television through my console so what difference does it make. If the box that you buy can produce content in the resolution that it says via the product that it is designed to be for, what's the problem? Why do video games have to wait for broadcast television? I'm seriously confused why the two are being equated, this has nothing to do with tv.

The cell phone argument is the reason I took your comments as a complaint. The iPhone whatever is out, I have it. The new one is coming out, you want it. It will have a higher resolution screen. Mine is fine for me and I won't be affected by you having a better screen...so what is there to question?

                        Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

The supply/demand is probably just a misstatement and he was referencing economies of scale I believe.

The rest everyone has already disagreed with and hasn't really been countered at all, get off of 4k and look at it that way, it's simply more powerful console with full backward compatibility. Yes in time there will be exclusive content (if not from the outset), and current content will almost certainly run better. It's up to them to build a value proposition that makes you want to buy it, and part of that is, yes, 4k capabilities. Has nothing to do w/ broadcast media availability.

It's absolutely possible that 18 months from now we see developers starting to treat the Xbox One and PS4 the way they treat the 360 and PS3 today. They'll still get releases but if gamers embrace and upgrade for the most part then games will be designed for the newer consoles but with the ability to run on the older ones. Features, graphics, etc may take a hit. Remains to be seen how that really plays out, far too soon to go down that rabbit hole IMO though.

I would pay the 100 bucks annual fee just for those two games alone.

This is the part that interests me, and I guess it's completely up to Sony/MS how they handle it. The question is what percentage of the current console base is going to make the switch. I personally think the two (base and Neo) can coexist.

There's already been 40 million PS4's sold. If 25% of gamers really want to upgrade (and I think that's quite generous even as one of the ones that do) that'd be 10 million, the number still isn't so great that you ignore the people with the base system. Then there's the fact that going forward people at the store will have the option of the more powerful system which will certainly sway a certain portion of the gamerbase, but there's still a certain portion of more casual gamers or families that just don't need it and would be better/equally served with the cheaper Slim.

Basically, the Neo is going to come out and be a thing but I don't think people are going to stop buying the base systems especially now that they're both cheaper and slim now. 3rd party publishers don't have incentive to create a version of the game that intentionally pisses off the greatest portion of their customers.

PS4 Slim teardown videos. Looks nice and compact, smaller APU 16nm, and lower draw PSU. The mainboard looks just a little larger on length and width than a desktop graphics card.

Nothing in a controlled lab, but still a good idea of how much quieter the PS4 Slim is compared to the OG. By a good 10db on average.

PS4 Slim’s Fan Noise Level Tested and Compared Against Original PS4

From the video below, while playing No Man’s Sky (that can push the old PS4’s fan quite a bit), the console remains quite quiet, between 21 and 24 dB.

In order to provide a comparison with the old model, I tested my own original CUH-1004a using the same game and the same Android app (Sound Meter). Incidentally, Links-Tech used a Huawei P9 to perform the test, and I had a very similar model available for mine, a Huawei P9 Lite.

You can see the results of my test in the gallery under the video, with the fan generating 28 dB of noise initially, then pitching up to a maximum of 34 dB, and then calming down again to an average of 31 dB, which is considerably more noisy than the slim.
