    Re: PlayStation 4 Discussion

Gee, some people aren't enjoying their PS4 PRO? Who would have guessed that a mid-gen console which wasn't needed whatsoever was a bad idea? Add in the fact that the CPU is virtually identical to the base PS4 and yeah, you'll get better resolution but at the cost of a lower or bad frame rate.

The increased GPU says it all. Graphics Processing Unit. It's right there. The CPU is what's mainly needed for better frame rates which is why some games are struggling. Add in the fact that the games are having HDR patched in on the fly and none of the PRO additions were done at the start of the development process for games and yeah, it's not going to be good.

Hopefully in time, games are programmed and developed with HDR and of course, better frame rates. The true test will be Horizon: Zero Dawn in my opinion mainly because every game is having all this stuff patched in which tells you that the game was originally never meant to support HDR and the PS4 PRO.

With that all said, I keep HDR "ON" on my TV but for the PRO, I turn it off because it looks worse due to the console switching from RGB to YUV420. Turning HDR "ON" in-game looks worse than keeping it off.

It's basically a cluster**** but whatever. After selling my base PS4, $150 cash back via my credit card and $45 back in gift cards via Best Buy, PRO only cost me $5 plus tax so I can't complain at all. LOL.

How about just buy a good 4K HDR tv and clearly see how great some games look? I would never tell anyone not to buy the pro unless they only had a 1080p tv, but that's just me. For a $100 more you get double the HD space and a future proof console.

That's not true. It completely depends on the game and the engine involved.

I'm VERY much enjoying my Pro, I have a 4K TV with average HDR performance, and it's been fantastic. If another mid gen upgrade comes out, ill get it too.

Worked perfect with Resident Evil Demo, I haven't had any actual issues with the cable, no HDCP issues, etc. I was just worried until I sent a HDR source through it.

It's a 12' cable as well, now let's see if this switch works:

I don't understand the big push for 4k gaming. I would rather play regular HD resolutions at 60 fps.

According to Digital Foundry, it is. Maybe not for every game but a good amount of them. The higher resolutions, textures, etc. is so much at times that the CPU can't handle the frame rate.

Take FFXV for example. It runs at 900P and sometimes 720P on Xbox One yet has a near perfect 30FPS for the entire game. The CPU isn't great but because of the lower resolution, textures, etc., it's easier to manage a better and higher frame rate.

In summary, more visuals will pretty much guarantee you a lower than expected frame rate especially when publishers care more about visuals than frame rate.

On the positive side, except for Horizon which is only a few months away, all of Sony's first party exclusives should be good at launch so while I hate waiting, at least they should be worth the wait.

So I just got done playing TLG for the first time has my game ended up coming a day late because of the weather. I played for about 3 hours and just have to say this game is sick! All ready a few crazy surprises in the game and very entertaning game. Also I have gotten stuck a few times already so I would say it is a challenging game and while the game dosnt have music playing 100% of the time the way it uses its music is great. I do find the camera can be annoying at times but it is not that bad and the controls are ok to. I have only had a few frame rate issues so far and nothing major. The collectors edition statue looks really nice to. Another solid game from Sony and so glad that after like 9 long years that the game finally came out.

That's because you haven't played in 4K HDR.

Same here. In fact, ever since getting my pro I barely play games that aren't pro ready.

I'm the same as you, I think we really should focus on getting what we are doing right before going on to the next big thing..and right now there are still too many games not hitting 1080p correctly.

With that being said I want a PS4 Pro for the PSVR that my wife got me.

Oh don't get me wrong, I do want to, I just am not sure games are ready for that yet, I mean ones they're trying to change over and not the games that are being made especially optimized for it.
