It's right up there with the 360 controller for me. I actually wind up playing the Switch more on my big TV so I can use the Pro controller over the joycons in handheld mode.

I'm still playing random sports games on my PS4 from time to time, but I'd say 98% of my gaming this past month has been on the Switch. Looking forward to taking this with me on my work trip next week.

I have a work trip next week too, so I'll be taking my Switch with me. I don't think I'll take the dock because I won't feel like disconnecting it, but I will take my Pro Controller just so I don't have to use the joycons even in handheld mode. I took the Switch with me on vacation last month and played in handheld mode with the joycons and I didn't play very long because it was just like every other handheld system, just not comfortable to me in my hands. If I play on the plane I will use the joycons though just because I wouldn't want the unit to slide off the seatback tray.

That's crazy, I guess that many people just didn't have a Wii U. I don't plan on buying it because I'm only interested in the Grand Prix mode and it isn't much different from the Wii U for all I can tell. I read about a few gameplay improvements and the Splatoon characters are in it, but that's about it as far as Grand Prix mode. I just can't believe they didn't release a new game with new tracks. But if not that many people played it on a Wii U then I guess Nintendo thought this was pretty much a new game to most.

Nintendo needs to get their account management in order. Appears the we have to use one Nintendo (network?) id for the 3DS/WiiU and another Nintendo Id for the Switch. At least I couldn't get my 3DS account to sync/work on the Switch.

Any idea why these are separate?

Need one single id to rule them all...

if sony or Microsoft had handheld im sure theyd be separate too unless vita is the same im unaware?

So the nintendo network id was limited on WiiU/3DS...the account was tied to the console (you had to call them to use it on another console) and purchases did not tie to the account, but rather to the console as well.

The nintendo account used on the switch now is more of a network based account that can be used on multiple systems and purchases are tied to it.
EDIT ---And I imagine they will be sticking with this format going forward ---

I don't know if there was a limitation to how the NNID were set up to change them to more of a network based id or if making changes made them entirely have to overhaul how it works on 3DS/WiiU, but you can link the NNID to your nintendo account on nintendo's website to keep them together in a sense. That way you share the same wallet funds and rewards.

Is that confirmed? Online purchases are tied to account and not console?

Because I didn't buy Mario Kart digital based on it being tied to console. I'm not buying a game twice if something happens.

The only difference is that unlike XBO/PS4 where you can have a home console that everyone can play your games, while you can play them at the same time on another console...on the switch your games can only be played on the switch you have marked as your "active" console.

But saves are still tied to console...hopefully when they have their full online service in the fall the option for cloud based will be available...

Glad to see I was wrong about the Switch. I thought I would have no games other than Zelda but I'll have 4 once Playgrounds comes out.

Vita is absolutely the same. They even have cross-platform cloud saves for games that support it (The Show comes to mind here.)

Nintendo is just dumb about online stuff, but that's hardly news.

MS would keep it the same as well (which they already do between PC/XBox.)

A unified account system and a simple goal similar to what MS is doing would get me to buy a Switch as soon as I saw one: 'All our catalog games will work on future hardware, you won't have to rebuy them again in this ecosystem'

Then keep on being them, create new hardware to cater to whatever gimmick they want to pursue (waggle, monochrome VR, home/handheld combo, etc). We'd probably own a handheld or two, and probably have a minimal Nintendo offering on every other TV in the house.

Where possible maybe those games would work in the future too, but being able to support their NES/SNES and some of the other catalogs I wouldn't expect would be that difficult. Like music their fans wouldn't even need to pirate, they could sell a large quantity of games to their audience one more time.

Of course all of that vision is quashed by just one higher up saying 'but then we can't sell it to them 3-4 more times over their lifetime, they've already shown they're willing to rebuy them'. So instead people will pay for nostalgia fixes like the NES Classic and just pirate all their games.
