    Re: PlayStation 5

PS5 is the first time I've ever questioned my purchase of a console at launch or early on the release cycle. My favorite thing about it has been the DualSense. I'm not expecting huge graphical jumps with consoles anymore but at least some more innovation in gameplay. Most games don't even take full advantage of the DS as showcased in the Astro game. Feels like a lot of factors led to teams not really pushing the limits of PS5 only or poorly optimizing games.

I'll pass on the Pro unless something happens to my OG PS5 or a game actually warrants the purchase. That next-gen feeling I'm looking for probably won't come until the PS6.

I agree about the DualSense, most games don't. It seems like 3rd party AAA games won't do for one platform that they couldn't for the other. As far as Sports games, it seems like none of them do. I want to say NBA2K does slightly by tying it post backdown resistance. It seems like the DualSense could play a way bigger part in sports games. Most of the turbo buttons are tied to the right trigger. They could tied Acceleration to the Adaptive triggers. The higher the Acceleration the quicker the trigger loses resistance. For the Haptic Feedback, it would be cool for the controller to vibrate in the direction of the interaction. For example, if you're playing Madden/CFB and you get tackled on your right side, the controller vibrates on the right.

I feel the inital console scarcity probably played a factor in the PS5 not being taken fully advantage of. It feels like we're at status quo when it comes transitioning to current gen only titles. But, it feels like we haven't seen the type of innovations I want to see. It feels like Graphics/Performance has been the focus. We're at the point of diminishing returns with visuals. I want to see more gameplay innovations.

I'm in the same boat as far as passing on the Pro. For the games I like, I'm not sure the increased specs would benefit me. I wouldn't say I regretted getting the PS5 at launch. But, if I could do it all over again, I would've waited until the Pro comes out or earliest late 2023. For the first couple years, I barely played it because my toddler as a baby took up my time and most of the games were PS4 games. I don't regret it because I can't see myself waiting for the PS6 Pro either. I just don't have that mindset of needing the latest tech.

A PS5 Pro would be "better" 4K, which to me feels like more of a muddy distinction. Hitting 60fps will clearly be the biggest (and loudest) conversation around this potential console, and specifically whether a game like GTA6 can do it.

Yeah, it’s a tricky thing to get across to your average console gamer when you started touting 4k back when all you really did was make a console that was more or less 4k “compatible”.

My point was that pound for pound, both the PS5 and now the Pro will provide more meaningful jumps in fidelity and performance than what we actually got with PS4 to PS4 Pro.

I'm pretty disappointed w/ the PS5 as well, in particular because none of the games seems significantly better than anything on prior gen in my experience. Slightly better graphics just isn't the selling point it used to be.

Also, the DualSense controllers, while cool in theory, as you guys have pointed out have not been utilized very much at all. They're a novelty, and not a very good one. I have unfortunately experienced significant "stick drift" for the first time with these controllers, and after <1 year, my left stick just will not stop phantom drifting leftward. I have owned consoles going back to the original NES era, including many in the 'dual analog stick' era, and have never once experienced significant stick drift like these DualSense controllers have. Maybe I've gotten lucky for the past several decades, but I sincerely doubt it: I think it's clearly a manufacturing shortcoming on Sony's part which they will obviously never admit. And at $60-70 a pop, I'd rather just have PS4 controllers at half price without all the stupid tech that never gets leveraged anyway.

            Re: PlayStation 5

I, for one, had a couple of PS3 controllers with some stick drift. But, I chalked it up to how I abused the **** out of them taking faceoffs on NHL.

I don't have that problem anymore because I'm never tempted in the least to buy NHL.

I had stick drift with one of my PS4 controllers.

Even if the DualSense isn't being used to its full potential, it still just feels a lot better to me than either the PS3 or PS4 controller.

Seems early for The Show to end up on PS Plus. But, i definitely download it. I always rent The Show for a short term. So, I'll be able to continue my RTTS I started

Nice. I should just wait for sports games to come to ps play now since they eventually come to free play after a couple months.

Usually MLB the Show is later, but I want to say the sports games go on PS Plus around their real life playoffs. But, besides PS Plus, pretty much all the games go 50% around Black Friday. So, I usually wait until then.

Since I have Gamefly and they seemingly not having a set return game date, I'm don't necessarily have to buy most games. I'm an offline gamer and most games I only for a month. NBA2K is a game I usually buy every other year. This would be a year I would skip buying. This year, I'm just going to rent it for a month and half, then return it, then rent again around November

If it is Digital Only, I'm out. I'm not ready to make the digital only switch. They could have the attachable disk drive like the Slim. I just wished they had a major 1st party game releasing alongside it.

The rumors all along have been that it would be digital only but with the same add on modularity as the slim version. I’m okay with that, especially if the price is $500.

I won't be surprised to see a disc attachment compatible with the PS5 sold later if true. Anything to maximize.

I've been wanting to replace my PS4 in the office but I held out on the slim in anticipation of this. Very soon.

Seeing reports that the disc drive that is compatible with the Slim would be compatible with the Pro.

I just can't justify it to myself to buy the Pro for likely $500 and likely $80 for the disc drive, so likely over $600. At minimum, I would have to sell my base PS5 for $400. Even then, I can't see myself paying $200 for new console when the main selling point is better graphics/performance.

The Pro will be for me. I play against pc players and the rumored specs put me up against some top pc's out there. At the moment, the PS5 base competes well. I can't even imagine how much better performance I could witness. I also enjoy gaming in VR. The Pro will offer even more power to another device that uses it's core.

Since AstroBot is coming out and I plan on renting it, I went back and played Astro's Playground since I didn't really get far into it. It is crazy how underutilized the DualSense is. The Adaptive Triggers and Haptic Feedback could have a way bigger impact in most games and we haven't seen too many games utilized it
