Hopefully PS5 trade in values are high. Otherwise this is gonna hurt.

I bought the PS4 Pro and thought it was a worthy upgrade for what I was looking for at the time but times have changed. I don't have the free time and don't find a lot of the new releases that interesting.

I wouldn't blame someone for buying this thing if you can get PS5 fidelity quality graphics and ray tracing at a much better frame rate. I haven't used the fidelity modes in any games because 30 FPS is rough on my eyes now.

For now my big questions are:

      - What type of games are we going to see? With costs and long development cycles I don't think any big surprised are coming anytime soon. What big demanding games are coming? Just GTA 6 right?

      - How will developers be able to utilize this? The majority of my PS5 ownership has seen people still playing the games I am on their PS4. Now granted it's a much lower quality but still playable.

The good news is everyone who wants a PS5 for the most part has one so there's no rush. People can let this release and see for themselves whether or not people are finding value in it. I'm so far behind on new releases there's no reason to go fight to try to get a $700 console without a disc drive.
I'm also curious how many publishers are going to be willing to optimize past games. Especially PS4 games. I feel there are a lot of PS4 games that never got an update because they would rather sell it as a remaster than to patch it to the PS5. For example, Mafia Definitive Edition is a game I can't get into because it's in 30fps.

I don't see any changes to game development for the Pro. We're starting to phase out the last gen. I feel they will develop for the PS5/XSX and scale up for the Pro and down for the Series S

It's really nothing new except a race to new technology 101 as we are getting introduced to AI and I think its unavoidable. Just a start, but you have to be in to compete in a changing advancing technology. PC now has NIVIDIA DLSS. Sony wants to introduce PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

PC has NIVIDIA DLSS - DLSS uses the power of NVIDIA’s supercomputers to train and regularly improve its AI model. The latest models are delivered to your GeForce RTX PC through Game Ready Drivers. Tensor Cores then use their teraFLOPS of dedicated AI horsepower to run the DLSS AI network in real time.

Sony's PS5 PRO will have PSSR. For starters, it uses machine learning. Sony says the PS5 Pro has dedicated machine learning hardware that’s tapped to perform the upscaling similar to DLSS.

What is DLSS? What Is DLSS and Why Does it Matter for Gaming?

It started as a way to boost your performance by rendering a game at a lower resolution, but the prominence and popularity of DLSS have prompted Nvidia to add even more features under the name. Today, DLSS incorporates several different features, all of which leverage AI to boost performance and/or image quality.

Even if the specs in the image are true despite showing a disc PS5 pro, that minor CPU clock speed boost isn't changing much. Real shame especially since they have the numbers of 75% players preferred playing on performance mode.

The fps conversation is only going to get louder and angrier with this console lol. If a game is announced and it isn't 60fps there's going to be instant backlash and negative narrative.

                    Gonna need RDR2 in 60fps.

Hard pass and I hope that Sony feels massive pain from this to teach them a lesson. No disc is a major disappointment, but it's not entirely surprising with the direction of things. What is surprising and no one should be ok with is that this console is 75% more than it's non-disc predecessor, and you would be buying pretty deep into the PS5's total life cycle (at least half). Oh and that CPU "upgrade" . I am not a FPS snob. I prefer the higher frames that I get on my PC, but I have played on 30fps consoles for too many years to have it as a deal breaker. But at this kind of price premium, I expect more.

Also, while it's a little thing, it's pretty crazy that you don't even get a stand at the absurd premium

This is something where having a Digital Foundry-esque deep dive video to accompany it would've did a better job of highlighting the differences. It's not enough seeing a brief side by side comparison.

Heck, we didn't even hear about Performance modes on the Pro. Besides the GT 8k30, we mainly just saw current Fidelity modes with targeted 60 FPS.

RDR2 is a game I never did a second playthrough because I want to play in 60 FPS. Like I said, I can't reolay games like Mafia, Batman Trilogy, because I'm one of the 75% who chooses Performance mode. But, this is all up to the developer to want to optimize past games

Heck, is a game like Gotham Knights that didn't have a 60fps because they forced RT, going to be able to be in 60 FPS on the Pro

Nah, I'm good lol. I changed my stance and was set on getting it until I saw the price. $699 and thats before me buying a disc drive. Even if I sell my PS5 for $400, I can't justify to myself on another $400, just for better graphic modes.

I only play my PS5 for certain games which means really not much at all and was thinking about getting this and selling my PS5 to a friend at work for her son for about 350 or so to get the PS5 Pro. Not even going to worry about it now at that price especially since it's not my main console. I prefer digital myself so wouldn't need to buy the disc drive.

My wife is convincing me. I'm on the fence with the Pro, but leaning towards it again. I feel confident that I can sell the PS5 for $400 since my stepson wanted to buy one for that price. The way I'm justifying it to myself is that I'm paying ahead for the PS6. I'm more likely to sell the PS5 pro with the disc drive for $450-500 in 2027-28, than selling the base Ps5 for $350 then. So, in theory, I'm only paying $400 for the Pro. If I can pick up more OT before hand, I'll feel more comfortable with the isea of me working for it.

The Sept 26 preorder date is for PS Direct. Everywhere else is Oct 10

Not including the vertical stand might be minor to some but that pisses me off the most about this. Harddrive upgrade, stand and a disc drive gonna be over a G probably.
