The price they sited from Newegg was $1100, but yet they don't have the hardware either...I have skimmed the article, and what it comes down to is the video I provided is proof that you CAN build a comparable PC for the price of the Pro.

No matter how you to try to spin this, it doesn't change the fact that a comparable PC can be built...but I guess you would know that if you watched the video

I apologize. I didn't take him serious.

As for the article, he did list this;

Let's take the toughest of those challenges, the full CPU, GPU, motherboard and RAM upgrade. A quick spin on PC part picker nets an Intel 12600KF CPU, RX 7800 XT graphics, ASRock Z690 Pro RS ATX board, and 32GB of Corsair RAM for just over $800.

My take from that article, If you want a new pc system similar to the pro. It's costly, but you have room to expand. If you wish to upgrade your current rig with the same specs, you're in the same ballpark.

Of course we won't know until it drops but GTA6 might not be benefiting from a PS5 Pro. Which makes sense since this game has probably been in production before the base PS5 was even released.

Re: PlayStation 5

Two different things. The PC gamer article isn't building their own PC, but basing prices off of prebuilts. Jay is building his PC with what is found on Microcenter as it's sponsored by them. Yes, they have cheap cpu/mobo/ram bundles, but not always the best deals for the other components. He could have saved a bit more if he was able to use other sites such as pcpartpicker.

Even the pcpartpicker parts list by pcgamer on a full upgrade is making it more expensive than it should be. Why did they decide to go with a beefier CPU in the 12600kf (pcpartpicker does not include microcenter bundles) and 32gb of ram rather than 16?

Also, Digital Foundry has noted the PS5 pro GPU would be more comparable to RX 6800 or 3070ti (when accounting for machine learning AI). Digital Foundry also mentions it would only be comparable to 7800XT if it was significantly underclocked

Using the microcenter bundle Jay used for the 12600kf and a 6800, the "full upgrade" above would be closer to $650 and not over $800.

There are a few reasons for it:

It's a premium price for an arguably sub-premium product. Now, of course I can simply not buy something that I don't think offers the right value. I can also simply not buy Madden because it does not provide enough year to year value in my view though. Does that mean that I shouldn't criticize EA for any perceived lack of value?

There is also the question around is this truly just a premium product, or is it possibly something else. Will it negatively impact OG PS5 users? I may be wrong here, but I believe that there were some games towards the end of the PS4's life cycle which were really optimized for the better hardware of the PS4 Pro. If there do end up being games that really need the better hardware then this goes from a "premium" product into a planned obsolescence one, which is going to raise some eyebrows given the price/value. Now, if it doesn't happen then it's a mute point, but I err' on the side of caution there.

Last and most important though. This is easily the type of thing that creates a new norm for future pricing. If Sony gets people comfortable with the idea of paying $700 for a system, a system with separate add-on options that used to come standard to boot, then it would not at all be surprising to see the PS6 released in a similar fashion.

Re: PlayStation 5

The difference with Madden is there is no other options. There is a Slim, Vanilla, & Pro edition for people to choose from.
This will be no different from the Vanilla PS4 vs PS4 Pro. It’s 2024 yesterdays price is not todays price. The 4090 was significantly more expensive than the last GPU. In order for us to move forward with technology the prices will increase or we will continue to get old tech in the new systems.
I for one would rather have all the bells and whistles from day 1 and enjoy the console cycle and pay the premium price from day 1.
If they were to make PS6 version on par with the 5090, 6090, etc. that’s what I would go for and pay the cost. If I can’t afford the best then I’ll have to choose what fits my budget.
Inflation is thru the roof so of course the prices will be more expensive with new tech.
The 5090 may very well be $1800+ just for the GPU

Wow...we're really overthinking here. Remember, the PS4 Pro? It gave us a bump in graphics but was anyone really effected?

An extra USB port is an excellent inclusion since the PSVR brings back the Move Controllers, which each need a USB port to charge. If you're planning a jump into virtual reality, then the PS4 Pro might be the way to go.

Unlike the slimmer PS4, the PS4 Pro does include an optical audio output on its rear, just like the original launch PS4 from 2013.

Meanwhile, the GPU saw a much bigger performance increase on PS4 Pro. Its power has been doubled, and its clock speed has been boosted from 800MHz to 911MHz. In total, the GPU has jumped from 1.84 TFLOP in the launch PS4 to 4.2 TFLOP in the Pro. This bump is in order to accommodate the new 4K functionality.

The Wi-Fi of the Pro also saw an upgrade to include 802.11ac and a Bluetooth bump from v2.1 to v4.0. Both of these upgrades were also seen in the new slim PS4. The Pro also has an additional 1GB of DDR3 RAM, used for non-gaming apps to free up the faster GDDR5 RAM for gaming performance.

This is the big one – the main reason it's worth making the jump from the original hardware to the PS4 Pro. The PS4 Pro supports 4K output, as opposed to the standard PS4's Full HD 1080p resolution. And I'm not going to argue the 4k thing. lol

Now? The technology is much more enormous in the PS5 Pro and you maybe right. Lets play online and test it out when it happens However, I fear that Sony is now throwing their weight around and out of control with Xbox quiet.

Explore Tab on the PS5 homescreen is getting replaced. Not out for everyone yet.

Full Patch Notes: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/su...software-info/

• The Welcome hub is now available in the home screen. For users in North America, this enhancement replaces the Explore hub.
• You can customize the Welcome hub with widgets and backgrounds.
• Widgets display information like storage, battery levels, online friends, and more.
• Widgets can be added, removed, resized, and moved one by one. You can also choose from preset widget layouts based on your preferences.
• A limited number of users will receive the Welcome hub in this update. All users worldwide will receive this enhancement within 1-2 months.

• You can now create a personalized 3D audio profile for your headphones that's optimized to each user's ears. This allows for a more immersive 3D audio experience than ever before.
• Each 3D audio profile is uniquely optimized for each user, created by taking detailed measurements of how you hear 3D audio throughheadphones.
• To create a personalized 3D audio for your headphones, go to Settings > Sound > 3D Audio (Headphones).
• You can still select from 3D audio presets like before.

• Adaptive charging for your controller is now available for when your PS5 (CFI-2000 model group)is in rest mode.
• Adaptive charging allows the duration of power supply during rest mode to adjust depending on how much battery your controller has left, helping save power.
• To use adaptive charging, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, and then select Supply Power to USB Ports > Adaptive.
• Adaptive charging is supported on the PS5 CFI-2000 model group, using the USB Type-C port. Adaptive charging works with the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, PS VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller.
• After your PS5 enters rest mode, if a controller isn't connected, the power supply to the USB port will stop after a certain period of time.

• When you’re in a party, you can now share a link to that party. Share the link with players using other services to invite them to that party.
• This feature will be gradually rolled out after this system software update is released.

• You can now set which users can connect to the PS5 using Remote Play.
• Go to Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play, and select the users who can access your console through Remote Play.

• The restore licenses feature has been improved, and you can now restore one license at a time.
• Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses to select the license that you want to restore.
• To restore a license from the home screen or Game Library, go to the game, press the options button, and then select Restore License from the menu.

• We’ve added a friendly recommendation about your storage space that you’ll sometimes see in Settings > Storage.
• We've made it simpler to access the most popular activities from game hubs.
• Game hubs now only display activities that are currently in progress.
• To play a specific activity, start the game first and find it using in-game menus.

• The Invite to New Game option, which is available from multiple locations, is no longer available when sending game invites.
• To invite friends to a game session, start the game first, then send the invitation to the session.

• We've updated the device software of the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, and Access controller to improve stability.
• We've improved system software performance and stability.
• We've improved the messages and usability on some screens.

On the topic of comparing the 5090, or similar flagship GPU's. That is not a fair comparison. Flagship PC hardware is certainly far more expensive than buying a console, but you also get vastly more performance out of it. It's 2024 and we're still excited about getting 60 fps on performance mode on a console. A flagship GPU from 4 years ago can get that on a PC at 4k. Which also doesn't consider any other value that a PC may bring someone which is why Console vs. PC is a difficult comparison to make.

Another note that ties into the most important point that I made previously. The 4090 was vastly more expensive than it's 30 series predecessor, that's accurate. The 30 series GPU's saw an unprecedented run of scalpers and NVIDIA saw that people were willing to drop $1500 or more on a GPU while NVIDIA was only taking in half of that in revenue. So, they seem to have taken advantage of that consumer behavior. Which of course is their business, but it doesn't mean that we have to thank them for it. It's why things like what we're seeing with the PS5 Pro gives me heartburn. Despite the higher operating costs that NVIDIA and other companies are experiencing, NVIDIA's last 4 sequential quarter earnings reports have each individually resulted in the highest profit margin that the company had ever seen prior to the next sequential quarterly report which would outpace it. Which indicates that they are more than making up for rising costs on their end.

You want to know the people besides VR and online gamers? Those 5-10 Open world games that will surely be using its power.
Overthinking? Who here hasn't seen a price increase on a new product or new revenue stream become the new norm? That should be the first conclusion that anyone comes to regardless of however else you may feel about the product. If you're referring to my point about planned obsolescence, yeah that's speculative. ETA - To better clarify. I'm also not saying that this is definitely going to happen, or happen in any wide spread notion. But to the question of "why are people outraged", when you have a product with a massive cost increase then a lot of things are put on the table.

Yes.!!!.I get mad when playing against gamers with a nicer rig and I'm on a PS5. Yes, I want a Pro for a bump. And yes, when I'm at the red light I'm eying the person next to me who's driving a 2025 Stingray I'm wishing and wanting..

I like the newest thing. I'll probably end up getting this day one. I have the money to do so, why not?

I'll keep the OG PS5 as our streaming device in the living room, and game on the Pro.
