Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Well, my friend has one of those Samsung DLPs (which are awesome by the way) and he had digital cable first and it looked like total crap. He then went with the Dish network and it looks much better, however regular cable on the DLP still doesn't look as good as on my 32" with DirecTV. But I do agree that if you are going with the Samsung (which is what I would get) you need to go with satellite.Originally posted by BakesI've recently been shopping for a new TV and I've really fallen in love with the sammy 46" DLP. However, I was just in Circuit City the other day and the sales guy is telling me that since I have Adelphia digital cable, which according to him is not a true digital signal, that most all regular cable channels will look like crap on the DLP and that I would be better off with an LCD rear projection or I should switch to DirectTv. Now I know that circuit city also sells DirectTv packages so I wasn't sure what to believe. Anyone with any advice on DLP vs. rear proj LCD? Or is there something else I should be looking at? I'm a n00b when it comes to some of this stuff.
Thanks!
Hope this helps.Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
Okay: Sounds like the salesman was trying to get you to by another more expensive TV. No matter what type of HD TV you have (DLP, Plasma, LCD, or RPTV) , any non HD picture is going to look okay at best. Especially after watching DVD's and HD channels.Originally posted by BakesWell I can upgrade to their HD package so yes I would have some HD channels available. Satellite will probably look a little better (not drastic) than cable will. So I would hold off on Satellite for now. Get your Samsung and order the HD from your cable Company. they should bring you out a new box. If the new box has a DVI jack on it , that would be great because that is a better connection than component video. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
thanks for the help guys, much appreciated. Seems as if you guys have a bit different opinions on regular channels on digital cable vs. sattellite? Is there that big of a difference? Switching to a dish would be a bit costly for me .. right now I use cable internet through my cable company and get a fairly decent discount having both cable and internet service through them.Comment

Re: Another HDTV questions info thread
I don't have cable so I can't compare the 2. I do have Direct TV and the non HD channels are not that great on my TV ( I have a 42" plasma) . They look okay but I have heard that they do look better than cable. Not sure if the difference in picture is worth the $$$ you will have to spend. My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx
