And if it's the latter, if I get a TV with an ATSC tuner, do I just use the coaxial cable? I don't need to use an HDMI cable at all? And are the channels just like... 102, 103, 104? I don't understand how it would pick them up, really.

Oh, and now I'm looking at the Samsung LN-T2353H LCD HDTV for no more than $600. I'm looking for 23" only. Am I making the wise choice?
No. What I'm saying is the HDTV needs to have an ATSC tuner to get OTA HD channels. A TV is gonna have a NTSC tuner for regular analog channels. A TV that is HD-ready does NOT have a ATSC tuner and you'll need to get an external one or HD material via satellite or cable.

Just wondering, but if you're gonna spend $600 why not go bigger than 23" ? You could go 32" every day or even 37" on special deals like Black Friday w/ a $600 budget.

I dunno, 23" just seems like too small of a taste of HDTV, especially at $600.

I know, but it's for my dorm. I can't really get any bigger.

If you could recommend TV's of that size with the same features (or even 26" or 30"), then I would be grateful!

Thanks for the answer. Hopefully, eleven stories up, it will pick up those stations. Does it pick up ESPN?

        26inch Vizio...$450 every day price.

Personally, I wouldn't wanna put Samsung or Sony money on a everyday tv (ex. in a dorm room).

700:1 contrast ratio won't exactly do it for me. I'm pissed at the Sharp 19" LCD that I own right now because of its 800:1 contrast ratio.

I should take a picture of the space that I currently have. If I do, you'll see why I'm looking for something probably smaller... though you all know that I love bigger.

I looked at all of the Black Friday ads, and the only one that I could find close to making me change my decision was a 32" Phillips LCD for $599 at Best Buy (assuming I can get in line early enough to buy it, of course). I'm going to look at the specs now, but I'm thinking I'll go with the Samsung.

Oh, and I think I'm still confused about the ATSC tuner. I just read on the bottom of an Amazon page (their little forum) that you need a set of rabbit ears to get OTA HD channels, even if your TV has a built-in ATSC tuner. Is this correct?

            *** ****, I'm so behind in technology!

Cool beans and Good luck. As far as what channels you can get OTA, depends on your location. Plug in your [dorm] address at www.antennaweb.org for a good estimation. I get the
major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS/ETV) and their SD weather channels. I've heard of people picking up TBS, but not ESPN.

                  Thanks.

So, all of the digital stations are within 10 miles of me, except for FOX (19 miles). Do you think I'll be able to pick them all up?

How would this tv be for xbox 360 gaming. Is it 720 p and 1080 i? http://tv.rca.com/RCATV/RL/D52W19SS.pdf A freind bought a new tv, and gave to to me for free, and the only thing wrong is a small signal board, which I heard I could get it fixed for like 350, maybe I can find a good deal on the piece. Anyone know any good spots to buy the piece. the Model is D52W19

I would imagine so. You might have to go through a couple of antennas. I think I tried 4-5 different ones. The one I'm using now happens to pick up a CBS station in Georgia.

I would suggest trying a cheap antenna first and see what channels you get. You may have to go with a powered antenna ($25-40) to get better results.

Digital signals are essentially, all or nothing. You'll have to play with it though as the signal can become weak and go away, for no apparent reason.

$799 for the following Samsung 50" DLP sounds like a pretty nice deal. Yeah, it's only 720P but the price seems very reasonable. Anyone have any insight in to this tv? What are the pros and cons of DLP? It says that this tv can be wall mounted, but I can't imagine it could. Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

My Dad bought a 37" Olivia (237T) about 6 months ago. Great HD picture. The only thing I don't like about it is the on screen menu. It's like a cube that rotates and is a pain to figure out. I suppose if it were my TV and I used it daily I would get the hang of it.

For anyone looking for a Plasma TV. BB has a HITACHI 1080HD 50" Plasma on sale this week for $999.96. That's basically 1/2 of the original MSRP. Mind you this is not a BLACK FRIDAY Deal. The sale ends I believe tomorrow

                            The model# is P50H401

I almost bit on this deal last night. It's 1080i, not 1080p obviously for that price. I was a little hesitant because from what I've read and saw first hand at BB, the PQ wasn't all that wonderful. I'd be curious of other opinions on this model.

I wouldn't judge a set on how it's displayed @ the store. Store's do a terrible job. Also don't be hesitant about 1080i v 1080p. There is no broadcast content right now in 1080p & probably won't be for another 7-10 years.

The difference between 1080i & 1080p is minimal depending on how far your sitting from the display. This display gives you a complete 1280x1080 resolution, which excellent for a PLASMA.

You get 3 HDMI Inputs. You also get an OPTICAL Output. The only draw back if it's something your looking for is, this set doesn't offer a PC Input(VGA)

Here's the info straight from the HITACHI website:

At Hitachi America, we serve as catalysts for data-driven digital transformation and climate action. Harnessing our proficiency in green and digital technologies, we assist governments, cities, and businesses in reducing carbon emissions, fostering a sustainable society, and enhancing the overall quality of life for everyone.

Personally for that price & size, this deal is a STEAL.....
