Re: Another HDTV questions info thread

My question isn't exactly HDTV related, but this seems like the most appropriate forum.

I recently upgraded to a Comcast HD Digital Cable box. For surround sound, I've used digital coax to connect the Cable Box to my Koss 6.1 HTIB system. Unfortunately, there is a slight sync problem in anything that broadcasts in Dolby Digital.

I've noticed now that this also happens with the X-Box using the optical cable, however the delay is hardly noticeable. Watching cable TV in DD is impossible, though. The sound does not match up with moving lips. It's like an old Kung Fu movie.

Koss told me to reset all my settings to default and unlpug and replug all the cables. Doesn't solve the issue. I've gone back to using analog A/V cables for my cable surround sound, which is still broadcast in decoded Pro-Logic, but is not nearly as crisp as Dolby Digital.

Any solutions other than getting a better surround sound system?

Could be your cable signal, but you said it happens with the XBox as well. I won't say what you should do because you told me not to.

Yeah, it was a temporary solution mainly because I can't afford anything better right now. A 600 watt 6.1 DD+ system with progressive scan DVD on sale at Best Buy seemed like a good enough deal for the living room in my condo.

I guess I can start my Christmas list early.

                  Another question.

Can you get a crisp HD picture using component cables instead of the HDMI DVI cables?

yeah, the DVI are better though.

Anyone using a cablecard for HDTV? I'm thinking of ditching my DVR and getting the cable card (I have a DVR on my other HDTV in my living room).

I just got the 50 inch model (HL-P5063W) of that Samsung DLP you guys were talking about a couple pages back yesterday, and it is amazing.

I got a great deal on it, too. It retails for like $2,800, but I got it for $2100 and change including shipping from etronics.com. I was a little hesitant about buying something this expensive online, but if you can stomach the potential pain in the arse of having to return it if it's defective, the deals are worth it.

MVP looks so much more crisp in 720p, even though the framerate hiccups are a bit annoying. I wish every game was in 720p now, though LOL.
