I'm sorry that I don't understand any of this, so I'm just really confused. Exactly how do you then get an HD tuner, or how much does it cost? Is it better to get a T.V. with an HD tuner already, or will the picture not matter or change?

Again, sorry. I'm just really confused about all of this.

K-mart is selling that advent tv for 375 bucks. Do you have it because i would like to know if it is a good deal. thanks.

You purchase an HD tuner.. You can get one for 150.00.. This allows you to get over the air HD broadcast... If you get HD cable your cable provider will give you your own box (tuner) so you wouldn't need to buy one.. If you want a TV with a built in HD tuner.. look for the other sets I mentioned.. But the Sony 420 seems to be the rave for HDTV's under 900.00.. PQ is the same if you buy a HDTV with or without HD tuner..A built in HD tuner has no PQ advantages at all.. Just saves you money & is a convience to have..

I don't have it.. I see the 27inch version a lot at work (BB), but the feed isn't in HD so it's hard to tell how good the PQ is.. But 375.00 for a 30inch HDTV of any kind is impressive.. Even if the Advent isn't the greatest HDTV on the market it will still tower any Standard TV on the market today..

What about for video games? Do you need to buy an HD tuner for that?

Most HDTV's have a built in tuner now. Both of my HD's do.

You do not need a HD Tuner for video games.

Most HDTV's have a built in tuner now? You mean ATSC tuner or HD tuner? I know of a lot of HD sets that are only HD ready or HD 'monitors', ala no HD tuner built in the TV..

Both of my TV's have a HD tuner. I have the Sony XBR960 and a Sammy 30 inch. Both get OTA HD with my antenna. No cable or satellite needed. The Sammy was 899.99

I agree.. My Sammy has a built in tuner but a lot of HDTV's don't.. Companies do this to cut cost.. Since the FCC has regulated that all TV's 25 inches & over must have a built in tuner by March 2006. Companies get by this by labeling their HDTV's as HD 'monitors' since it can't be advertized as HDTV cause they don't include a HD tuner..

If you plan on getting HD cable or HD satellite, the built in tuners are useless. But they are great if you just want to pick up your locals in HD for free.

yes.. I don't plan on getting HD cable or HD satellite so I prefer HDTV's that have one..

So, I'm still really confused on this. LOL.

So, is the Actevic (or whatever it was called) T.V. good for HD, especially at $500 (with the HD tuner included)? I'm looking for something that I can use for 3 more years, solely for 480p/720p/1080i sports and video game use in HDTV only, at a low price and at or under 30" or so.

Advent doesn't support 720p.. But I read (Don't quote me) that the 360 will scale the game to your TV's highest resolution, which is 1080i on the Advent. I don't think the Advent has a built in HD tuner either.. It's not that great of a HDTV, but its MUCH better then standard analog TV's.. Best buy sells the Magnavox 30inch for 700.00 & the Phillips 30inch for 800.00.. But neither support 720p & don't have a builr in tuner.. Also, someone posted that Walmart is selling the advent for 375.00.. & Best buy is selling a non widescreen 32inch HDTV for 500.00-600.00. A philips..

My recommendations for HDTV's with a built in tuner would be the
                              Samsung 30inch 04 model..
                              Samsung 30inch Slimfit TV
LG 30inch.. All 3 have a built in HD tuner & support 720p

The best 26inch CRT HDTV on the market is the panasonic.. Been getting a lot of 5's by readers at circuitcity.com. Cost like 575.00.. BUT I'd recommend it over the Advent, Magnavox, & Phillips brand.. But the Panasonic doesn't support 720p or has a built in tuner.. If having a built in tuner is a must them go with my prior recommendations for your price range..
