If you're just looking for the best picture then hands down the Sony SXRD in 50" or 60" is the best hands down, over any DLP, LCD or whatever. I mean that's what conclusion i've come to after spending the last couple of months researching and going to the stores.

I had just about decided on the DLP, but I haven't been to a store to look in a while. I'm gonna go back and camp out at Circuit City and look again. Thanks for the heads up.

You gotta look at them side by side at different stores. That's really the only way.

I have a Sammy DLP and wouldn't trade it for anything (including the Sony SXRD). The picture on my DLP is perfect IMO and not grainy/overly vibrant etc... That's just my opinion though.

I have seen at certain Best Buys/Circuit Citys where the SXRD looked better and I have seen DLP's look better so it's a matter of preference and signal quality being fed to the TV.

Don't forget that you have to see them at multiple stores. Some of the stores get extra revenue selling certain TV's (ie: Sony's are often priced higher due to name brand) so they pass a better signal through those TV's instead of other sets.

Personally, I don't think you could go wrong with either TV.

Adding to that, Circuit City is on comission and gets more kickback for Sony. As joeboo said, check other stores. From my experiences with TV's, overall picture value is best with Samsung. That's just me though, and I own a Sony HDTV.

Yeah and the Sony and Samsung are both pretty close in quality. I just felt like the SXRD had a bit better picture from looking at Best Buy and Circuit City. I don't know if it's $500 better and I sometimes wonder if Sony is priced higher simply because they are Sony but the picture on the Sony SXRD was the best looking one. Whether it's a better value than the Samsung though is debateable. But if money is no object then I think Sony is the way to go. I just hate the ridiculious speakers and cabinet design of the Sony is the only thing about the SXRD sets. I guess if space wasn't an issue it would be moot but it is for me.

You really can't go wrong with either. I like the Sammy. But with the Sony you don't get that 'screen door' effect. That was essentially the difference for me. Remember the Sony is NOT a DLP. It's a little more expensive to manufacture from what I understand. I also have no fears about slight delay when gaming. When I saw the 360 on it I about fainted.

You will be happy with either set, but for me I was a little happier with the Sony.

"Screen Door Effect" is caused by LCD, not DLP.

My bad you're right. What I meant is the grainy look. DLP is the "rainbow effect". I didnt' see that in the store though. Just the grainy pictures bugged me.

ODogg, CC does have two years 0%. Or are you a cash and carry kind of guy?

I wonder if the source was poor as I've never seen a grainy image on HD material, DVD or the 360. The only time I see it is on analog TV and that's typical with an HD reciever with DVR functionality.

What? How do you know that?

Weird cuz my CC is FLOODED with Sammy's, even my local ad is mostly Sammy. When I picked up my Sony from CC I had to search for it. Also my wife asked our salesman if they are on commission and he said, "Not any more, but we used to be." I think they make their money off of extended warranties etc.

                        Agreed 100%.

I've been to Best Buy's and CC's, where the picture on some of the HD's (Ironically, never Sony) have awful pictures. When I was TV shopping, I dragged along my prog scan DVD player and a copy of Star Wars Episode 2 (beginning sequence is reference material) and checked out the TV's myself. The sales people thought I was nuts, but I want to see how these sets look for real. They also got annoyed when I would turn off "torch" mode and give the TV real settings.

They may have changed, 2 years ago a buddy of mine was a salesman at CC, taught me how to read their label's for commission levels so I could test out the "getting screwed" theory. The labels are still there, so I assumed they still got comission.

It's mostly up close which really doesn't matter. Really I was nitpicking (and comparison shopping you need to). My wife did notice it more than I didhowever. What was nice is we compared with the same signal. THEN I even got to compare Cable HDTV to DirectTV though both sets with the same signal side by side.

Believe me the Sammy look VERY nice. I would've been very happy with it. But I felt that the Sony was the better purchase for me.

I'll have to check that out, last time though I applied at CompUSA for one of those deals they declined me as my credit isn't the best. I'll have the money in a month anyways though so...

Hey one question though. I sit in two different places in my bedroom (on my bed and on my lazy boy) and like to turn the tv slightly when switching places. Is the tv agreeable to do that to you think? i know the sucker's huge and all but it certainly weighs a lot less than my 30" samsung CRT. I just wonder how stable the base is though. What do you think?

Depending on your TV stand, I think you'll be ok. I think the TV weighs between 80-90 lbs. Also if it's too close to a wall, you might have an issue of the back scraping up against the wall. But otherwise I don't see why it would be a problem.
